You can have a very good relationship with someone, yet they drive you crazy, so to speak, in certain areas of life. I write from my own personal experience here. I have a very close relationship with a person who is a Virgo Sun. I am a Gemini Sun. With the square, the AREA in which the person drives you crazy can be seen by the planets making up the square. I think that some squares can be incorporated into a relationship without breaking it. Squares may be good because they force growth.

Too many squares will ruin a relationship. Squares of certain planets would make a marriage very hard. Squares do represent a basic incompatibility. People do not like when I am so direct. However, I am not saying that the whole relationship is incompatible. THAT area represented by the square will be. Each person must stretch himself to make a set of behaviors that are not natural to him.

To give an easy example, Felix and Oscar in the Odd Couple, likely, had several squared planets. Felix would have had to force himself to allow mess. Oscar would have had to force himself to be neat. Each person would have to go against his own default state. Felix and Oscar were not married. Squares in marriage are much harder than squares in other relationships.

Now, let’s give some examples of squared planets and how they function in a relationship.

Squared Suns

Oscar and Felix may have had squared Suns. Squared Suns show a very basic thrust to life. For example, one person may procrastinate. The other may have to get everything done as soon as possible. I have this with my Squared Virgo Sun person. The Virgo Sun is very organized. The Gemini Sun(me) is not organized. The Virgo Sun likes to make systems out of everything(*sigh*).
The Gemini Sun likes to fly by the seat of her pants. For example, the Virgo Sun likes to organize the refrigerator. The Gemini Sun throws everything in and prays there is enough room. If there is a phone call to make, the Gemini will procrastinate. The Virgo wants to do it immediately so he can cross it off his list. The Squared Suns can be overcome if there is enough heart, soul and communication.

Squared Venus Signs

Venus represents our tastes, likes and loves. Venus represents the style of music, clothing, home decor, art etc that attracts us. Venus also represents the mannerisms of other people who either attract us or repel us.Hence, with squared Venus signs, there would be an incompatibility in this area. Let me give an example. You see an attractive man. However, he kind of turns you off in some way. Perhaps, he is too preppy or too hippie. Something kind of repels you, even though on the face of it there is no explanation. This would be classic for a Venus square Venus. Also, you may love classical music and he may love rap. This would be an example of very different tastes. I have seen Venus square Venus with my clients. It can exist in a long term relationship if there are close Moon aspects, I think. There must be enough bonding to overcome the Venus square.

Square Moons

I cannot take this in any relationship. I am very wedded to my Moon. I am a Cancer Moon conjunct the MC. I feel people’s Moons as either a warm cup of tea or a piece of sand in my eye. I do not feel one can have a good long term relationship with Squared Moons. People argue that Aunt Dody and Uncle Felix have been together for ninety years. Maybe so, but do you like in their bedroom? In my opinion, Squared Moons prevent that basic bonding in which two hearts relax with each other. Hence, if you have Squared Moons, watch the relationship and see what happens. The Moon is the heart. It is the most unguarded and vulnerable part of the person. One must be able to be as naked as possible with a marriage partner. Intimacy is from the head up, not the head down*sigh*.

I hope you have enjoyed this article and that you learned something that will help!

Squared Suns and squared Venuses aren't so bad...it's squared Marses and squared Mercuries I would watch out for!

I definitely agree with the squared moons, Amy. I am a Cancer moon just like you, and I find that Aries moons are just too emotionally selfish. It's draining.

I have not dealt with Libra moons, yet. I think there will also be agitation in some way with them, but different.

Sun squares are definitely interesting. I'm great with Scorpio suns. They're very reserved; it makes me want to bring them out of their shell more (which tends to happen a lot). I have a close friend who's one. Taurus sun, not so much. I find them very dull but I can tolerate being around them.

Venus squares are interesting because I find that I'm attracted mostly to men with their venus square mine, also even friends. I think the clashing energies definitely bring out excitement and variety. Gemini venus and Sag venus definitely interest me. Gemini, because they find beauty more so in the mind. Sag, because they find beauty in someone's spirit. Most Gemini venus I've met don't really care about someone's looks (I do, shamefully). Sag venus I've met are always more attracfed to people who are spontaneous and carefree. It always intrigues me and it opens my mind to new ways of thinking about beauty/art.

They aren't always, but you aren't the only biased one. People post their bias all the time.

I don't know if you post things like this, because you feel defensive, or you're trying to poke at people.

Great insights Ami Anne!

So the squares offers frictions and sometimes is repelling, love/hate.

What do you think about opposite signs? It's less about friction and more about "I admire this quality, but at the sme time it gets on my nerves" type of energy right?

For ex I have venus in aries and I'm very straight forward and have no time for diplomasy. At the same time I find the oppositesign, venus in libras very charming and I admire there people skill and diplomasy. At the same time it gets on my nerves! As an aries (and due to other placemenst in my chart)

I sometimes can find libra diplomasy as "ass kissing" and false. I know deep inside its not what it is but it "feels" like that.

But again opposite signs is less about friction, or em I wrong?

I think opposite signs are good in friendships cuz you have opposite perspectives, so to speak, but in a partner, you have to be careful, especially with opposite moons because the moon is the heart and I think there needs to be more of a simpatico than an opposition.

It often felt like pure emotional torture with him while he had not a CLUE about what I felt .. an emotional horror story Scorp and Aqua Moon together (not even exaggerating here).

I belong to a Pisces or Cancer Moon, I swear. Or maybe Virgo. Taurus is only great for lusty adventures and Cap is the one to avoid because they publicly put me down (to stay with the assumed best feminine matches for the lunar scorp department here ;D)

I agree that venus squares can be lived with. My closest friend and I have this (by 2.5deg) and it actually makes me chuckle. We are almost opposite on some things eg at a Christmas meal, he lapped up the meat, left the veg and admitted he would have very happily had another side of meat. I, on the other hand, don't eat loads of meat and in fact ended up leaving all my meat (it was not nice) and only ate the veg and potatoes!

The balm comes from us both having leo moons, and they're parallel, so we're very accepting of each other's tastes and will good-humouredly poke fun out of each other.

The fact that both our venuses are ruled by mercury may help as well (although gemini and virgo are very different beasts, they have the same root need of understanding I guess).

I am a Cancer sun and Libra moon, dated a guy with Aries sun and Cancer moon. I would try to explain things on a logical level and it just seemed like he would get more upset. I tried emotional and IDK, just seemed like we just hurt each other while wanting to be what the other wanted I guess?

Remember, the saying is not staying balanced in love, it is falling, losing your self to love. So, if you are in the early stages of falling in love right now, and you feel a little crazy, don't worry, you kind of are. You are under the influence of your hormones that are making you feel, all at once, euphoric, endangered, and exhausted.

This article is from Psychology Today, it explains in there that some people can't wait till the honeymoon period is gone so they can get some rest.
