My understanding is that Venus is about what we find beautiful and pleasurable. Mars is about sex and drive (the way we approach goals, etc). I read that having a Venus-Mars connection in synastry is important but this is where I get confused. Is it Venus or Mars that carries out flirting and chasing in the initial stages? Because I feel like my Aries Venus is the coy one that flirts in that way but in the bedroom my Cancer Mars is the one that wants feelings involved and can't have sex with someone without having a connection of some sort to them. But if Mars is sex and Venus flirting then why do we say we should have Venus-Mars rather than Venus-Venus and Mars-Mars? What are the differences? For example:Person A: Venus Fire Mars Water Person B: Venus Water Mars Fire VS. Person A: Venus Fire Mars Water Person B: Venus Fire Mars Water IP: Logged |

Venus-Venus is similar tastes, interests and values and makes for things "in common." Mars-Mars is similar drives, energy level and sexual preferences and makes for great teamwork.Venus-Mars (where Venus is female and Mars is male) awakens that stereotypical gender role where Mars chases Venus (males chases female). Think of two people in bar where Venus-Mars comes into play...Venus giggles and flips her hair while Mars buys her a drink and asks for her number. It brings out the flirty female tendencies where she feels beautiful and macho male tendencies where he feels like the handsome pursuer. It's a natural ying/yang dynamic but not at all necessary for a fulfilling romantic relationship (in my opinion). That's my take on it anyway. IP: Logged |

Because you need a male-female dynamic to attract two people. IP: Logged |

It depends on the person. Some people are more social and flirtatious naturally, while others are shy and reserved. IP: Logged |

Mars to me is always the aggressor when it is on the angles in synastry. So if someone's Mars reacts with your angles by a tight orb and there is a romantic spark, they will pursue you heartily. Your reaction to them will depend on whether you "reveive" them or not. Mars can be both exciting or infuriating-depending on whom the person is. I have seen this in my case(not always leading to romance ofcourse) when Mars in Cardinal signs Cap,Lib,Aries,Cancer are "forward" with me. This can also happen if their Uranus is on your angles. It can feel like "love at first sight" or an "immediate connect" or "recognition" of you. I experienced the above with an ex. My Uranus in Sag sat on his Dsc.I saw him and immediately went after him. If someone's Mars/Uranus is not interacting with your angles, they don't make a move. Or they don't seem clear & forthcoming about wanting you. Here it can get very confusing. Say for instance if their Venus is on your angles, they may do everything and anything short of showing you they want you. And it can be frustrating to them(or you) when their intentions remain unknown. They really like you.But Venus is not assertive enough and so they drop clues and do a lot of gestures to try and get the message through to you. Another ex of mine has his Venus widely conjunct my Dsc. Saturn also conjunct my Dsc but in closer orb. So he would show me how much he cares for me by taking care of me or "parenting" me. Since Mars was far away and Venus is not the agressor. Venus on the angle had to assume a more assertive role which was awkward for it. He would look gorgeous(Venus)around me and flirt up a storm to assert that all this song and dance was for me. If you have your Mars on the person's angles, you are the one who makes a move. You are the one who is forthcoming with them and want them to know exactly what you are about(female or male) If you have Venus on the person's angles, you still want to make it clear that you think they are gorgeous and you are interested. But you pursue them with less direct force(as Venus is the attractor and not the aggressor). The true Venus/Mars mix happens when either of you have Venus in each others angles and Mars i.e.their Mars aspects your angles and your Venus aspects their angles. They pursue you. You receive them.

Thank you for the thorough response! That makes a lot of sense. I don’t notice that pattern in any of my synastry charts but I think other things influenced pursuit maybe. How do Venus/Mars relate to sexual compatibility?

I always find sexual compatibility more to do with the nature of each person's approach to sexuality then the formulaic idea of putting two people in bed & expecting fireworks. What I stipulated above is the initial stages of pursuit. Mars is about "conquests" after all. So Mars is the pursuer. I am curious of these cases that you mentioned that when looking at what was described above, you felt didn't apply.Would you mind going into detail about one? The reason I say this is because I have an Aries Sun with his Pluto/Moon conjunct my Dsc.His Moon also conjuncts Pluto natally & so he is coming across to be quite intense to me. When I see that his Mars/True Node in Leo and his Jupiter in Virgo is in my 5th house, I now realize why he is so intent on wanting to get all my attention. I like him too. But I am not feeling romantic of late. The timing is off. Maybe something will change? Timing is so crucial when it comes to these things. IP: Logged |
