Why do I have to do this? tinker with things, and always, always, mess everything up.

I selected the 'restore factory settings' option which erased the OS from my laptop, and after that it told me that the rescue and recovery disc is 'wrong'. aaaarrrgghhhhh !!

Now I am left with a laptop which has an E drive, the C drive has been erased (i think), and the whole thing is in an indeterminable intermediate state. neither completely erased nor usable. And I have a report to make and submit tomorrow.

And this after I made sure I wasn't repeating any of my earlier mistakes. I had backed up all data, had all my software cd's ready etc etc. Looks like there is an infinite number of mistakes to be made, and my Higher Self has determined that I make ALL of them, all for my personal growth of course.

Why??? Why me?! Why ALWAYS me ?!!!

My sympathies for your poor equipment lying in a coma

Next time you decide to "tinker" call Dr. Zala and I'll remind you of the Credo of the Six P's, eh??

Prior Planning Prevents Pi$$-Poor Performance

I know you did plan well, but there's always that Monkey Wrench lurking under the desk..... and the best laid plans etc etc. Why did you want to restore the factory settings??

my lappie had become reeeally ssssssslow. like when it was new it was an aries with a gemini moon, now it had become a taurus with a taurus moon and mercury and mars.

So i thought it needed some 'fresh energy'.

I think instead it decided it needed some rest.

LMMFAO, because I'm a cancerian and I tend to have that problem. But ILWL is a Cancer Asc in case you were wondering.

Sorry to hear about that ILWL, I wish I could help....I'm just no computer whiz myself. I have a laptop myself though.

Bummer, ILWL. Do you have a system restore feature?

The defrag thing that Fayte suggested is what I do when my computer starts running slower. Also I free up memory by deleting things that I no longer use etc.

Thanks for reminding me about that Fayte as I have not checked lately to see if it
needed defragging. That's because I need defragging I think.

Hope you can get it fixed and back to normal, ILWL.

you can't..do a system restore if theres no OS instaled.

Defraging helps when its slow....also trying going

start>>run>>type msconfig>>startup and deselect applications you don't want to start up, that will speed things up when starting your PC and limites some of the programs running in the background.

Do you have a recent bootable disk made on a CD ???? after everything was instaled and working???

That might bring everything back.

LOL See, that's why I don't bother my computer much, Thethirdbenjamin.

I think that's why God created tech support people.

Truthfully that is what I normally do - call someone who knows more than I do about computers.

Ummm...Merc Retro springs to mind...major snarler-upper...

Call someone out and have them fix it. Perhaps expensive, but (usually) better than DIY.

hehe, i fixed it !!

The problem was tht i didnt have the windows cd. once i got it, it just took 1.5 hrs and my comp was up and running.

You see i had backed up everything, so tht wasnt an issue. i wanted a fresh install. i had installed so many softwares over the last 2 years tht it was near impossible to clean it up completely. now i have exactly wht i need, windows, office and gtalk. tht's all i want
(atleast now....sooner or later of course i'll install utorrent, yahoo, mozilla, xvid.......... )
