If you are someone's sister, good news for you, you can pat yourself on the back as apparently you are good for his/her mental health.

I am from a family of 6 girls and 4 boys.
The article makes sense, but I detested being in such a big family.
It was NOT happy Brady Bunch.

Hmmmmm, I think in my case it would not apply because my sister fiercely hates me.

I find this topic VERY interesting. Everyone in my family has a sister, except me! Over the last few years, of watching family dynamics, I have started to say that my family members are not able to understand what it has been like for me to not have a sister.

My brothers each have 2 brothers and 1 sister. My sister-in-laws have sisters. My Mum, Dad, uncles and aunties have sisters. It's been difficult for them to understand a certain loneliness I feel in my family.

Being the oldest, and only daughter, I was expected to do a lot of chores while growing up. Now, everyone has forgotten what I had to do for them.

I ought to be honest here, and say that I'm disappointed in the lack of interaction my family has with me. I have felt somewhat under-rated at times.

I'd like to see the follow-up study of the De Monfort University team.

My family (including snobby sisters)have nothing to do with me because I am not a Christian and most of my friends offline are openly gay.
One sister is deceased and at least did not hate me.

This is one area of life where I count myself fortunate. I have one brother, we get along very well, always have done. He is a nice person, a good friend.

One of the good aspects of having a sister I suspect, in his case, is that he learned to be sensitive about the female menstrual cycle and the problems that can ensue. His wife has had some difficulties here, including the need to have c-sections.

We are both Geminis, the sign of brothers and sisters.

Hmmm, I'm the oldest, and have two Gemini younger sisters and a younger brother, and we get along swimmingly, especially the youngest one who's 15 and my brother. I think it's nice for them to talk to someone who's a little bit older and yet not in the realm of 'parent'...able to bridge the gap a bit.
Always wished I had an older sister.

Hmmmm, didn't work out that way in my family..... I (with Sun in the 3rd house) am estranged from my (Gemini) brother who has been an alcoholic and drug addict for over 30 years
His opinion is that I ruined his life -- that I always got everything (the summer camps, the ski lessons) and "Mom always liked you best" (he does have Cancer rising).....

well i have 3 sisters and no brothers. i am both #3(my dad's) and #1(mom's) and i have to say that i enjoy my sisters a lot - now. whether having sisters is good for you i dunno; two of us are pretty unstoppable, and two have semi-retreated from the world...the difference being that the two stronger ones are both #1s and have raised kids...the #2s - well one is older than i and the other the baby of the family - are not weak people but prefer not to be too "social".

but the big difference i think is the children, having them is so helpful in healing your own wounds/relationship with your parents!

and i think not having brothers is a slight handicap when it comes to relating to men in general...
