Not yet ~ but we have daffodils already starting to peek out significantly! We won't start our veggie garden until probably March or April...........My Mom has a qumquat tree with many green-soon-to be ripening qumquats on it. Spring will be nice this year........what with global warming, everything is popping up early! Sad, I know, but just trying to make the best of it. On another hand, the Robins who have been coming around are so FAT AND PLUMP you would not believe it! IP: Logged |

Hi Nephthys! Good to see you around. So true about global warming! Our winter here has been MUCH warmer than usual. Kind of enjoying it, not gonna lie. (But yeah, that is pretty sad, in all seriousness). IP: Logged |

What are qumquats like? Heard of them but never had one.By the way, my little garden is indoors. I could not be more of a beginner, hahaha. I have a little growing kit that I got at Whole Foods. I just started seeing signs of life today so I'm really excited. Keeping my fingers crossed that it'll continue to grow. IP: Logged |

Your little kit sounds cool. I love Whole Foods. Mainly because I have a lot of dietary restrictions due to a health issue, so they have many things I can eat. I also buy my face moisturizer there and rawhide sticks for my dog. Kumquats (I guess I spelled it wrong) appear like little mini oranges. Here is a link to a picture: CLick Here IP: Logged |

rhubarb grows in my backyard every spring. Up here in northern maine the farmers let people come pick veggies in the field after the harvest. such as potatoes, beet greens and broccoli. Also a few weeks we picked lots of blueberries that grow wild in the woods. Also some wild strawberries.IP: Logged |

Trying to grow some Tangerine trees from seed. I have lemon thyme, spearmint, and basil growing already. Next weekend we're planting beets, broccoli, carrots, sugar snap peas, sweet peas, and some type of endive. I'm sure I'm missing some things - but those are the basics. Due to global warming, we had an odd winter last year - extra super duper frozen and cold. I'm hoping that doesn't happen again. Nepthys, I haven't had a kumquat since I was little! Our old neighbor used to grow them. My folks have all sorts of citrus in their backyard as well that's about ripe. I can't wait - nothing like an orange right off the tree. IP: Logged |

----since I forgot to plant my winter garden (brocolli, brussels sprots, etc. )I dug a new bed....where not much else grows in my backyard, where some very hearty native Lantana have taken up homestead...I sculpted with rocks hewn from the Hill Country, dressed with mulch and planted 2 flaming salvia with a plumbago in between. Am quite confident they will fare well in the winter to come... IP: Logged |

Well my kids dipped into my seed bucket on Saturday, and I have little mounds all over the dirt area of my backyard where they planted every last one of my seeds. LOL We'll see if anything grows from that!! IP: Logged |

I put a leaf of a plant in potting soil, and now it has taken over my window sill! I think it's called a cactus plant. It has several vines and leaves all over the place. I am starting a Japanese garden or Zen type garden from scratch. Got any ideas anyone?Got some nice acers (maples) ferns and a few conifers but I am looking for a nice way to make a water feature. Only a small one.Have looked on net but only a few pictures available. Want to be able to sit out at the end of the day, glass of wine in hand and go "Aaahhh" But I kind of need it to look like that straight away! I know you can't hurry Nature but anyone got any ideas of how to give her a gentle shove! But I need it to look like IP: Logged |

Well, I started the veggie garden two days ago....Potatos (first time growing!), garlic, yellow onions, carrots, green onions, radishes, spinach, cabbage and swiss chard!!! In the next month, will add two types of lettuce, zuchinni, all types of peppers, and tomato! Gotta love spring.....
