Some astrologers claim that the 12th house would be the "trash bin" of the natal chart; that people who turn mad often have an overfilled 12th house (perhaps I should check up the chart of van Gogh and...)

Others say it is some kind of a link to your former lifes.

What if there are Sun Moon Mercury and Jupiter in your 12th house?

Perhaps you can tell me that I am not weird (Otherwise if you had read Rushdie, the ground beneath her feet, hmm... remember the ending? - he's got quite a lot of planets in his 12th house!)

Love

Trust me (another 12th houser) you are not weird. We're just deep

The 12th is not any easy house to understand.
I've done some thinking about this as I have 4 planets there natally.
I'll get back to you with some thoughts for you to consider.

Zephir.....
Some 12th house thoughts for you...
Sue

12th House.....
The 12th house contains our future as well as our past.
Seclusion, escapism, faith, institutions, Hospitals, Prisons, restriction & places of restriction. Behind the scenes activities. Secret enemies. Hidden enemies.
Nature of the unconscious. Root of psychological problems.
Sacrifice. The helper, fixer, rescuer, martyr or saviour.
Reveals patterns, drives, urges & compulsions that operate below the level of conscious awareness and yet significantly influence our choices, attitudes & direction in life.
The house of self-sustainment or self-undoing.
The house of karma (ie: the 12th house shows what we "bring over" from the past)
Can also show what the Mother ingested & her psychological state during pregnacy "the umbilical effect." (eg: Pluto may show the Mother had a traumatic time during pregnancy & so the child is born with a sense of danger of life & a feeling that doom is just around the corner.)
Can show hidden weaknesses or forces in ourselves that undermine the realisation of our conscious goals (eg: The 12th can unconsciously sabotage our conscious goals - Note: The unconscious will always win over the conscious drive)
Can show a lack of clear identitiy, directionless lives, victimisation, a distorted sense of the value of suffering or self sacrifice.
Energies in the 12th are not intended to be used for personal ends (eg: Mars may take on the role of fighting a battle or cause for other people - so in a sense we give our Mars away, or "offer it up" to others. Mercury may speak other peoples thoughts or be a spokesperson for others).
Some people with 12th placements lead "symbolic lives" (eg: Gandhi -> Sun in Libra in 12th = peaceful co-existance for millions).
The 12th can also give true empathy, compassion, selfless service, artistic inspiration & the capacity to merge with the greater whole.
Escapist tendencies. Meditation prayer.
A yearning to return to the original state of unity -> to merge with something greater.
What we feel will redeem us. What we hope will give us immortality.
Energies that sustain or undo us. Self-undoing. Psychological problems.
Planets in the 12th can also determine the character & profession of the native.
Strong placements in this house usually increases intuition.

Hi Zephir and Cat

May I catch a lift ?

I don't have any planet or asteroid in the XII house . It's completely empty and the sign of the cusp is Cap.
What does it mean ?

Hi Zephir

A 12th house Mercury tends to think best when alone. Also, this would tend to make writing a very comfortable way to communicate. Dreams and meditation are important and open channels of learning.

A stellium (group of planets) in the 12th house can be even stronger than just a conjunction, it will enhance intuitive abilities.

Having the Moon in the 12th could make you feel lonely at times, but it will also make you sensitive and impressionable, giving you stimulus in any creative endeavors. This coupled with Mercury can make your mind flow with ideas and images, leading to great inspirations.

Having the Sun in the 12th may make you seek solitude, but you may find yourself being thrust into public areas, because wherever the Sun is, it wants to shine.

Jupiter there can make you feel like a king in exile, but it also gives a willingness to help others and causes you to be really good hearted.

So, you are not weird at all, just full of great creativity and mostly likely psychic ability carried over from past lives.

Jakie, having no planets in a house simply means the focus is not as strong in the empty house. The flow of energy is triggered by the planet in a house, so if the house is empty, activity to the concerns of the house are not triggered. Now, the area that will trigger any concerns of an empty house will be the house where the ruling planet is for the sign of the empty house.

For instance, you may wonder what type of meditation might appeal to you, look to see what house the planet ruling the sign on your twelfth house is and it will give you a clue.

Cat, thanks for a great explanation about the 12th house! I have Mars in the 12th and have never felt like the energy of this planet is imprisoned, which is the common explanation...I have very often in my life taken action on the behalf of many people, now I realized this is connected to this 12th house placement.
Someone once pointed out to me that the 12th house is above the horisont and therefore relates to other people. That helped me understand the sense of this house. I use to call it the Jesus-house, I feel that everything Jesus stood for belongs in this house.

Hi Stella
You're welcome.
Yes the 12th house is a difficult one to fully understand. I have 4 planets there....
Mercury, Pluto, Mars & Venus....so quite a busy house for me and I'm always learning new things about it.

I've also been told that an empty 12th (mine is empty too) means that this is your last trip...you will be immortal....or something like that.

Hi, I also have a cluster of 12th house. My Sun, Venus and Chiron are all in my 12th and I have had a pal coming and going since 1995- good ole Pluto has been in Sag and my 12th is in Sag. I also have my Northnode in Pisces and when I read about it, it says Northnode in Pisces/12th house. It is actually in my 2nd house and this says go for the spiritual and trust in the Divine. I think the 12th has been intuitively 'polished' by Pluto and it has given me not only stronger intuition but the faith to trust and follow it. Nice to hear your views Cat and Donna! I wonder how many of us with lots of 12th are 'into the Knowing? Does Auriel have lots in her 12th too? When I last saw my Reader she spotted the conjunct Venus/Chiron with the close Sun and she said this is karmic and that the way my houses were set up the trining looked wonderful and like you said Cat, was in the future and so let's embrace this 12th and treat it with the respect it and we deserve.Love Flame

Off the track!
Purpleflame, I want to know about your nodes! This means that your south node is in Virgo/8th house...I just looked at a chart of a friend with this position. She's hardly making any money of her own, drives an expensive car - a gift from her father, her husband just inherited a shop in the most expensive neighbourhood of this country and her mother-in-law keeps buying clothes for both my friend, her husband and kids, great stuff - my friend has never ever bought a single thing for her children. North node in 2nd house is of course an indication that she needs to use her own ressources, but I'm getting confused about the Virgo influence on the south node here. Since you live with this, maybe you have some inputs. Or anyone else?
Sorry for interruption 12th house discussion...but we can connect it to node in Pisces...

Back again!
I have a friend with 12th house Sun. At the age of 46 she started working as a gereatric (how do you spell this?) nurse, nighttime only. She's had great success in her job and was recently, at the age of 63, headhunted as chief night nurse to an exclusive private nursing home...Before this, she also always had night jobs and is totally a night person, but using her energies in a hospital really brought out the best in her.
But except from that, she always seem to have lots of projects that she never even get started...she's had some curtain material in her drawer for ten years, still intending to get the curtains done..and a lot of other stuff like that. 12th house?

Donna,

Very true about the 12th house Merc, which I have in Gemini. I was just telling a friend that the computer has been a great boon to me, as I write much better than I speak, because it gives me time to think about what I'm saying, instead of blurting out tactless things.

Hi Stella. Hmmm I have Always had to earn my own money but..maybe things will change for me soon. Apparently, I have Jupiter moving across my 8th as it is in Leo and apparently this house is about others money so my reader suggested maybe a developer would offer me a deal with my home. I know that she also said as Jup is my ruler as my Ascend is also Sag the Leo trining my 12th is karmically good for the Sun and Venus there. Interesting comment as I am not sure how the ruler of a chart works and would love some more input into this.
Stell, about the South in Virgo I have been reading that there is a tendency to have been nitpicky and Ms Perfect so now that it is in the south one is moving away from that and also that the Pisces northnode will make you more spiritual. There are a LOT of factors to look at in one's chart and it is difficult to put them all together to get the right 'take' on them. Love Flame. Glad you like my name.. I kind of do too, and if I keep using it so often I may start answering to it off the web too.

I have my sun and jupiter in the twelfth house. You couldn't be more right on about the night time person comment! I am a graphic designer for a newspaper and I am on the night shift, and I wouldn't have it any other way. I have my days to myself when everyone else is out in the masses. I spend my days to be alone, in solitude, doing yoga, reading, and SLEEPING! At night, I come alive. I do my best work, and feel most clear then.

I have always felt as if I have been some sort of visitor on this planet. I tend to experience life as an outsider. I watch and try to comprehend. I look at the people and world around me as foreign- and have never really felt that I fit in an any particular place.

I crave solitude with little interuptions from those around me. At times though- it can feel as if I have 'imprisoned' myself in a world of solitude...

These are all very interesting twelfth house considerations.

Hey Mary
Welcome to the world of astrology
I bet there's not an astrologer alive that doesn't say I found out I didn't know as much as I thought I did.

I've just made some discoveries re progressed charts that are absolutely "freaky"
This is now my new toy
