Hey ya'll -I couldn't help the great guidance ya'll offered to magnolia re: blood sugar, so I have a question: Are there astrological factors that point towards the onset of shingles or other nerve/skin disorders? My Grandma just came down w/ it the other week, and she's in a pretty bad state; luckily, it was caught quick enough that she started treatment w/i the 72 hr. window. Ack, I'm a dummy - I don't have her birth info on hand (although I can root it out shortly). I remember that she's an Aqua Sun, Taurus Moon, Cappie Asc (yep, she's a tough lady)...so, maybe a 6th House Moon and, 3rd House Sun? Maybe not. Anyhoo, w/ that scant given info, are there any treatments/remedies that ya'll can recommend that would mesh w/ her astrological factors? Thanks, Corri IP: Logged |

Corri, did you know Herpes Zoster (shingles) is caused by the same virus of Chicken Pox? What happens, the immune system may be compromised creating a weakness that allows the dormant virus to crop up. The neuralgia is worse than the blisters. Anyway, astrologically, it is related to the Moon, with Mars activating it, either in Cancer, Libra, Virgo or Aries. Now this is according to Dr. Cornell in his humongous book Encyclopedia of Medical Astrology. Eileen Nauman, the medial astrologist, recommends thiamine in her book. Unfortunately, the pain can last longer than the blisters, which resolve in about 2 to 3 weeks, but sometimes the pain lasts up to 5 or 6 weeks. Most physicians give painkillers, besides the anti-viral meds. Donna IP: Logged |

Yeah, I thought I had heard something re: a compromised immune system the main factor. I think it may have been familial stress - my sister & divorced parents all acting like nuts in their wonderfully respective ways; she takes so much of it to heart. She just finished a line of medication - I think she was on six or so, including steroids (which I thought weakened one's immune system, but I guess they provide some other benefit...) Horrible headaches have accompanied this, as well as what she calls a "shallow" numbness on some parts of her face/head. I've heard of permanent nerve damage in some cases - do you know how prevalent that particular side effect is?Thanks for your help Corri IP: Logged |

Corri, Yes, the steroids weaken the immune system. I haven't seen much permanent nerve damage, just lengthy recovery if treatment isn't begun soon. But, it sounds like your grandmother got treatment promptly, which is in her favor. Donna IP: Logged | |
