Topic: The Moon, the mother and the 6th house

OK, the Moon represents the mother in the natal chart. I'm looking at the charts of two girlfriends, who both have a terrible relationship with their mother (the one was left by her Mum, the other was abused). They both have afflicted Moons, and those aspects stand clear to me. But I'm wondering about the 6th house placement? When the Moon is in the 6th house, can this say anything about your relationship with your mother? I'd also appreciate any other inputs on this. Thanks. IP: Logged |

Hi there...In classical Astrology the Mother is in the 10th house while the father is shown by the 4th. This CAN be interchanged, but I have good luck with MOM = 10 DAD = 4. 6th House can be aunts/uncles but doesn't relate to mother. Look to Saturn's aspects or the aspects to the RULERS of 10th (4th) that should be more telling. Saturn CAN and often does represent MOM. (I don't know why this works, but it seems to) Hope that helps some. Blessings...

The Moon also is your emotions, instincts, habit patterns, and unconscious drives. It shows how you relate to women in general, especially the Mother. It also shows what kind of home you prefer. It rules the sign of Cancer ie: The Crab (in fact it rules all shellfish). Bearing that in mind, you can see how if the Moon is strongly placed in a natal chart then mood swings would tend to be to be more pronounced (have you ever been "nipped" by a crab or seen how shellfish hide in their shells). The Moon also rules liquids eg: the tides of the ocean so as Human Beings are made up of mostly fluid you can see how people with a strong Moon placement are also much more likely to make decisions on the basis of hunches or feelings. (The Moon can churn up those fluids - just like the ebb and flow of the ocean tides)Ok so if we take all of the above info and put it into the 6th house, here's some idea of how it will work there..... Someone with the Moon in their 6th house would have an emotional need to work - it can in fact be one of the workaholic positions because of that "need". They will feel at home at work, and will tend to make their work area look like a second home ie: adding domestic touches - such as planets, flowers, photographs etc. Someone with their Moon in the 6th are likely to attract co-workers who tend to be moody and who may either "mothering" or will try to mother them. Hope that helps to see the Mothering influence of Moon in the 6th.
Sue  PS: I'm sorry to read about your two girlfriends terrible relationship with their Mother. I am guessing that certainly at least one of them (possibly both) had Uranus making an aspect to their natal Moon? IP: Logged |

Anyway yes the Mother 10th/4th can be interchanged - especially in these days of one parent families.
The 10th house rules the parent of "greater influence" - which is usually the mother.

I have found that the moon in the 6th house does tell me there is a problem with the Mother. I can not tell you why! In 30 years of studing astrology I have always been able to figure things out. How bad the problem with the Mother is depends on the aspects to the Moon and the ruler of the 6th house. ------------------

Hiya dear sweethearts ,To tell you in short my companion  /lover/boy-friend has his moon in 6 and has no problem with his mom. He would indeed be more as someone like Cat mentioned.

Thank you for your inputs, sorry I'm late getting back to you...I had work.
I did look at the 4th and 10th house, but couldn't find anything, but Aselzion, now when I looked at the ruler, it became different...Actually, one woman's 10th house is ruled by the Moon. Also, Saturn is both cusping her 6th house and being the ruler of the 6th house...The other woman's 10th house is ruled by Neptun, which is a perfect indication of her alcoholic mother, Neptun also squaring her Sun and Mercur, her fourth house ruler. Cat, I couldn't find any aspects to Uranus, nor to the Moon, nor to any of the house rulers.
I was thinking about the Neptun influence here...Maybe Neptun in harsh aspects to the Moon gives a delusive relationship to mum - you don't see her the way she is and vice versa.
Otherwise, Cat, my friends are definatly mothers to their collegues, they speak about them with such an affection you'd think it was their kids!
