Hi super_bull
I've not really looked into the Nodes very much myself - info is not so easy to find. The South Node is where feel comfortable - as what we know from past life - the North Node is what we are moving towards in this lifetime.

Here's a link for you...
http://www.bobmarksastrologer.com/Nodes33.0.htm

I have some info re Nodes somewhere on my computer...I'll see what I can find. A great book re Nodes (masses of info re Nodes by sign and house placement - she doesn't cover aspects or transits it that book though) is "Astrology for the Soul" by Jan Spiller.

Here's something I just found on my computer.....unfortunately I have no idea where I got this info from.....

Anyway here it is....

The Moon's Nodes are always 180 degrees opposite one another. The South Node is the symbol of our past. It represents where we are already gifted, comfortable, and attached. Moving out of this place can be the work of a lifetime, because everything in us just wants to stay where we are comfortable, and hope that we could do so for a whole lifetime. But, alas, we are here to grow into uncharted territory of self-exploration. The North Node points us in the direction of what would be scary, difficult, and yet utterly exhilarating for us to achieve. Knowing about our North Node, so that we can continually notice our resistance to fulfilling it, is one of the most invaluable pieces of self-knowledge that astrology can give us. When we look back over our lives, if we have not fulfilled our North Node, we will probably look at our lives with some disappointment. It's as if one who has fulfilled his/her North Node could probably die in peace.

One can usually notice the universe pushing one towards their North Node. Usually, when one gets too lazy and comfortable in their South Node territory, that territory starts to become really uncomfortable--like the universe whipping the mule (that's you and me!) from behind. And, when one is actually moving in the direction of their North Node, positive things occur to encourage us to keep moving in that direction--like the universe dangling, and granting a bite of, a carrot in front of the mule.

The qualities of the South Node are actual, inherent personal characteristics, and are quite strong. These are qualities that we are already gifted with from day one. So the sign, for example, of one's South Node can be considered a major personal placement, though the qualities are general rather than specific, because they can be said to be leftover energies from our past.

When planets are conjunct the South Node, two things are indicated. One, that planet (with its sign and house) also explains our past, and we are likely to have a complex relationship with these qualities--these qualities may be more difficult and feel more karmic. Really, there is no standard interpretation for a planet conjunct the South Node; it is a unique situation in each case and a fair amount of intuition may be a big help with understanding the meaning of planetary conjunctions to the South Node, and the possible past-life or karmic meaning thereof. In most cases, the planet will show energies that we already have strong previous experience with, although this could be predominantly negative or positive past experience. A variety of factors, like the planet/sign combo, the house placement, other aspects to the South Node conjunction, and degree analysis can be consulted for further clues. No matter what, we are being asked to complete a certain kind of issue, or we could say karma, by these conjunctions.

When planets are conjunct the North Node, it gives us more information about what we are here to do and fulfill. In general, planets conjunct the South Node pull us more strongly into the past from time to time, and thus make our life progress harder; planets conjunct the North Node help pull us towards our current life purpose.

When interpreting the Nodes, it is good to find the negative aspects of the South Node's sign and house, as contrasted with the positive qualities of the North Node's sign and House. The positive qualities of one's North Node indicate one's primary direction of evolution as contrasted with the negative qualities of one's South Node. Or, one can view the neutral qualities of both nodes.

Yet while the main point is that the North Node is the more important direction, a true balance of the North and South Nodes is ultimately the real goal. In some meaningful ways, they can actually be read in reverse order.

Also, very important: the sign of one's North Node is one of the best ways to understand the whole 'color,' feeling-quality, or tone of one's entire life. For ex. Sag North Nodes tend to have a more 'lucky' life tone, including travel, education, etc.

and here's some more......

The North & South Nodes of the Moon
Indicators of karma and life purpose

The Moon's nodes are a very important feature of a Western astrological birthchart because they answer that question we've all asked ourselves: "Why am I here?" The moon's nodes, or lunar nodes as they are also called, are the two points north and south where the orbit of the moon intersects the path of the sun (the ecliptic). The nodal axis (the North and South Node are directly opposite to one another) appears to be related to events or people that have the quality of fatedness. The North Node is also called the Dragon's head or Ascending Node and the South Node is also called the Dragon's tail or Descending node. The terms Dragon's head and Dragon's tail come from mythology. The ancient people feared eclipses. They felt that during an eclipse the sun or moon had been seized by an angry dragon and swallowed.

The North Node is related to the soul's intent in this lifetime and the South Node to the soul's past. Think of the nodes as designating a path. The North Node lies at your feet and is laid out before you. That is, it represents the path of the present and the future, where you are headed. The North Node, by its sign and house position, outlines what your soul came here to accomplish this lifetime so that it might evolve. The North Node represents your soul's intentions and objectives for this lifetime: your path to self-actualisation. When transits or progressions make contact with your North Node, it represents opportunities and lessons that assist you in becoming conscious of needed changes in your life.

The South Node is the path behind you. By its sign and house location the South Node represents the past, including the skills, tendencies, strengths and habits your soul brings into this lifetime. The South Node indicates the kind of behaviour that is instinctive and automatic to you. It can also represent a place of safe retreat, but that safety can also be your stagnation and can even represent regression if you retreat there for too long. The South Node activities and behaviour feel safe and secure but offer no new vitality or meaning. It's the past, it's finished, your work there is done. Too much activity associated with the South Node results in frustration, discouragement and a sense of life lacking meaningfulness. When there are contacts to your South Node by transits or progression, issues/things from the past seem to resurface. The South Node also tends to relate to "Deja vu" situations.
The path of the South Node is a more comfortable path to walk than that of the North Node: which is why sometimes we are tempted to retreat there and stay too long. The path of the North Node can feel strange and uncomfortable to us because it represents the unknown and unfamiliar. Maybe you have heard it said that what we have come here to do is not what comes easiest to us. This makes perfect sense when what we've come here to become and experience are not that we've been or experienced before! Further, it is not easy because our egos tend to fear the unknown. However, if we are up to the challenge of growing (the growth represented by the North Node) then we will feel fulfilled and joyful. When we stay too long in retreat at the South Node, we feel a void in our lives and the sense that something is missing. However, even though the North Node path might scare us and seem to present incomprehensible challenges at times, when we rise up to those challenges, we feel alive and triumphant.

Astrologically, the nodes represent the major key toward understanding our lives as part of a continual thread. You can think of the nodes as points of "soul magnetism." The North Node pulls you toward the future and the South Node to the past. The ideal is to blend the two. That is, to use the skills and strengths represented by the South Node while walking the path of the North Node. A good way to view the South Node is as your Achilles Heel. It is one of the weakest spots in your horoscope because it represents footsteps you've already taken. You are meant to draw strength from what it represents in your birthchart, but you are not meant to dwell there.
The North Node represents the path we chose to walk this life. At the very deepest levels of our being, we all feel a sense of purpose and direction. This is the North Node. It is that inner sense of purpose that keeps us walking despite all obstacles. As we take up the challenge and walk the North Node path, we reap benefits and each obstacle becomes a stepping stone to further self-growth and actualisation. The primary challenge of the North Node is to be willing to walk where we see no footsteps before us. There's a handy way for you to know when you're on the right path. Your energy level will soar; you will feel happier and freer. When you walk the North Node path there's this huge YES in your experiences.

Following is a table of general information about each nodal placement. Blend the meaning of the North Node by sign location with that of the house locations understanding that in most cases the house location theme is most prominent. If you'd like to read more about the North and South Node, I recommend reading Jan Spiller's Astrology for the Soul. It's a brilliant book and provides a comprehensive and practical accounting of each of the nodal placements.

Interpretations of the North Node by Sign and House

North Node in Aries/North Node in 1st House

Yours is the path of the builder and your goal is that of abiding inner peace and security that are derived from valuing the self. Seeking self-worth "out there" brings sorrow - the completeness you seek can only come from a meaningful relationship with your self and the natural world. Prove yourself to yourself.

North Node in Gemini/North Node in 3rd House
Yours is the path of information gathering and sharing. You want to cultivate curiosity and probe the world for more information verbally or intellectually. Learning to really listen to others can be a challenge. You do not fare well when you follow blindly. The more experiences you are open to, the better. Deal squarely with life in the here and now.

Yours is the path of thoroughly understanding your own motivations, needs and fears and the establishment of roots in the form of home, tribe and attunement to your inner self. North Node in Libra/North Node in 7th House
Yours is the path of commitment and partnership. Identify with others and form equal partnerships. This is not meant to be a strictly independent lifetime for you - the focus is on interdependency. Go it alone and you'll feel empty. Commitment and equality in partnerships is key. Discover co-operation, affinity and magic in intimate relationships.

North Node in Scorpio/North Node in 8th House
Yours is the path of regeneration and transformation. You are learning the power of letting go of your attachments: releasing and eliminating that which is no longer meaningful to you. You must be willing to risk what you have to reach higher levels of attainment. Seek that which is deep, real, spiritual, and abiding. Cultivate passion and self-control.

North Node in Sagittarius/North Node in 9th House
Your is the path of cultivating faith, pursuing spiritual understanding and trusting your intuition. You have a direct line to Spirit - learn to trust that. When you put logical analysis to work, you get trapped in indecisiveness. Seek adventure, liberation, and Higher Understanding. Cultivate directness in your communication with others.

North Node in Capricorn/North Node in 10th House
Yours is the path of cultivating a meaningful career and to direct your energies toward society. Do you feel a sense of purpose and destiny? North Node in Pisces/North Node in 12th House
Yours is the path of ego-transcendence. You are experiencing consciousness itself - the mind/ego observing the world. You are letting go of the contents of consciousness - the worries and theories and noise that fill the mind. Cultivate your dreams and imagination. Your inner world is as real and solid as the outer world. Cultivate compassion and the appreciation of the perfection in imperfection.

Ok, so North Node in Aries pretty much means I'm destined to grow old alone? *sigh*

That saddens me deeply.

Hi Lioneye
Please don't be sad I don't read it that way......to "not relinquish your individuality" doesn't mean you have to be alone. You can still retain your own individuality whilst being in a relationship which is What house is your NN in? Read both the sign and house interpretations. eg: my NN is in Pisces and it's in my 7th house - so I combine the two interpretations.
Sue

PS: I haven't been in a relationship for the past 4 years....so I'm seriously messing up there re my NN

It's in the 4th house, which is home and family...so I have to be independant about home and family, so that sounds like I have to do it alone. It's not good no matter how you slice it. At least, not for me cuz I much prefer to be in a relationship. (south node in Libra, I guess)

Hmm. I've just decided...I hate my north node. Can I trade it in?

It all depends on how you look at it...is the glass half full or half empty?

I could look at my chart and see no planets in my 7th house (cept my NN) and think...oh nooooooo I'm never going to have a relationship - but even though I haven't been in a relationship for the past 4 years prior to that I was in a 12 year one.

Yes I do hear what you say re much preferring to be in a relationship - the South Node is where we feel most comfortable and also where we "retreat to" to feel "safe" as it's what we know but if we stay in South Node "mode" for too long we get stuck. It's much more exhilarating to follow the path of your NN.....but can sometimes feel a bit scary. I'm sure you'll have both - your independence and a relationship
Let me know how things progress for you in the future.

Hi crystelle
For now, just think of the true node, mean node, north node as being the same thing. The South node is exactly opposite the North Node in your chart. The info I've already posted explains the difference between them.

Excuse yourself Lioneye, I have Aries in the North Node as well. But the key is to balance both forces. You can still have a wonderful relationship with a man as long as you retain individual self at the same time. As for the 4th house, just make sure you travel a lot or have a firm career, so that you can feel better about coming home and being close with loved ones.

For awhile I thought that my North Node was is in my 10th house. But that was due to innacuracy. It's actually in my 11th house where it's being ruled by Aries and Mars in the same house. For me it means that I have to take my individuality from the past and incorporate it with a greater whole then the self. I've got a new found journey ahead of me.

Lioneye!

Can't NN in Aries 4th House mean that you are:

-leader in your own home (lease or mortgage in your name, man pays his share to _you_)
-independent-minded, asserting your own ideas and spirituality
-a ringleader in your home and community (that's good for Leo, too!)
-learning to attune yourself to your sELF so well that you can then share this richness with others? (in Libra, your SN)
-maybe starting your own business, or to teach from your own home? (you already do this with Lindaland, actually)

I recall a post you made about often feeling like a Pisces... well with your Aries NN, it's telling you that things will work out well when you tap into that "gotta be ME!" energy! That's a good road out of your 12th House/Pisces stuff, I would think.

Personally as a triple Aries (Sun/Asc/Mars/POW!) I would hate to think this wonderful energy meant I had to be alone and lonely, some steely-eyed crone at the end of my days, asking people what they did for the cause. It just means you need a man who's strong enough to be happy playing Consort to your Queen -- 'cause you're a centre stage person!

Ok, I'm healed. Thanks, Lunargirl and your magic wand of words... So, basically I absolutely MUST rule the roost. I guess that rules out Aries, Scorps, Tauruses, or Cappies as mates cuz I think they have a hard time letting a woman be the boss. (Leo men too maybe...not sure).

That's not so bad I guess. It's just that all my "issue" placements are in Aries...ie Chiron, Saturn and North Node. Chiron's in the 3rd, Saturn and North Node are in the 4th. So, the Aries vibration isn't exactly a barrel of monkeys in my chart. Awkward for such a positive energy, isn't it?

here goes.........

my south node is in scorpio,in the 6th house AND conjunct saturn.
so thats a mixed vibration of scorpio, virgo & saturn.
scorpio symbolises(among other things)intensity, passion and obsession.
saturn symbolises discipline, hard work, restriction, pessimism and the feeling of being chained or bounded.
virgo aka 6th house symbolises work.
that means i am born with a reverence bordering on obsession towards work and being perfect.
saturn adds to this by bestowing a naturally pessimistic attitude.

my north node is in taurus,in the 12th house AND conjunct sun.
thats an amalgamation of the vibes of taurus, pisces and sun.
taurus symbolises security, the well trodden path etc
pisces symbolises ego transedence, imagination and compassion.
sun embodies hope, brightness, pride ,ego, self respect and optimism.
so i am to learn to help others (pisces),have more compassion towards everybody, not be so critical abt everything including my own work,go easy on my work(not to be obsessed abt it)and to have more of optimism in my heart.

is that right,sue?

...but do keep in mind that 'leadership' is completely different from 'rulership'... although good leadership can result in being allowed some ruling functions... hmmmm... Some of this depends on whether a person wants a following, or a fiefdom.

hi Sue,
personally, ummmm idon't know, i mean i always was (and still am )neurotic abt my work.2 years ago i nearly had a nervous breakdown with my obsession with doing things just the right way.i was working like crazy round the clock allowing myself no relaxation whatsoever.
i was very studious kid and was somewhat a bookworm(geek, actually ).
the past year has helped me realise that you can do your best work only if you allow yourself a lot a peace ,soltitute and relaxation(12th house sun,i guess)and don't push yourself to give your 100% each and every time.

superbull, I agree as a Taurus even with my sixth/7th house sun, I need peace of mind.

There is a theory that the Nodes can only aspect the moon since they are only a plane of the moon and therefore have no physical space.

For that reason I do not count aspects other than the moon, simply because aspects are more important the greater the planet, asteriods, have less effect so I concetrate on the big ones first.

The North Node in Taurus is about values, it's a wonderful lesson for a Taurus. I like people with the North Node in Taurus very much, being subjective because I have to learn about values.

Lioneye, I understand having the NN in the 4th myself, being dependent, being independent, it seems like a major issue for the 4th house. People need people allright.
