Hi all, I was just wondering if anyone knows exactly what the "true node" is and what it means in one's natal(birth)chart? Also what effect it may have and why, etc...I'd appreciate any help! Thanks!

The true node and North Node and Moon Nodes are all one in the same.

Moon’s nodes
When we talk about the Moon’s nodes, we aren’t talking about physical bodies like the planets, we are referring instead to two mathematical symbolic points in space, 180 degrees displaced. The North node marks the point where the Moon crosses the Suns path from south to north, and the south node lies 180 degrees from that point.

Meaning
As far as meaning, let’s start by looking at the meaning of the nodes themselves. In traditional astrology, the North node is associated with experiences in our present life that will help us grow, and the South node with both past life’s karma that we are working out during this life cycle, and abilities that we bring into this cycle from previous lives. More specifically;

South node – by its location in the chart, it represents the types of experiences and memories that our soul wants us to have available for use in this life to help us on our developmental path. Kevin Burk refers to it as “our soul’s report card”. He believes that the South node tells us what areas of our life we have successfully handled in past lives. The problem can be however, according to Burk, that we will not continue to work on these areas, but rest on our laurels.

North nodes – focuses on the future, not the past. It indicates the experiences in the future where we can learn and grow during this lifetime. The problem with this node is that we might tend to forget the past and dwell only in the present and future.

In other words, the South node deals with past life experiences and what are being carried over into this life cycle, and the North node deals with this cycle’s purpose. The South and North nodes act like the wings of a dove, both are needed to keep on an even flight. If either is given more importance than the other, the bird will not be able to fly a straight course.

The meaning of a given North/South node combination is determined by their Sign and House locations. According to Kevin Burk the Sign indicates the “underlying motivations and the evolutionary lessons that we must learn” and the House, the “areas of life were we are most likely to encounter these lessons”. In other words, the What and the Where. The When comes from transits to these points.

Effects
The effects of the nodes aspected to other planets varies from that of the effects of two planets in aspect. This is because, when two planets are aspected, their energies are mixed together in some way based on the kind of aspect they are forming. There are no such energies associated with the North and South nodes.

Noel Tyl points out a different effect, not in one’s own destiny and past, but in their relationships with others. In his articles; Getting to Node You, and Who Relates to Your Node, he points out that when one’s nodes is in positively aspected to another’s natal planets, it can create a very strong tie between the two. The nature of that relationship depends upon the planet involved, and the type of aspect.

Hope that this helps
