Welcome to the lop-sided club, LaPierre! I have sun, merc, mars and venus all in lovely Leo. ceres and pallas are astroids, right? I don't know anything about them, there are too many of them to keep track of. I do know that I have Eros and Psyche in Scorpio, (those are the love astroids).

I like your astro make-up. I bet you're a pretty cool humanoid. What house is all your Libra in? I'm all 8th house (with a cluster of planets in the 9th as well, in Virgo)

LaPierre,

You are also twice a Singleton. You have only one Water planet: Mercury in Scorpio and one Earth planet: Venus in Virgo. Maybe even three times, because you have Neptune in Sag as your only fire planet (chiron is not a planet - although you have a Leo rising)

Does anyone have any advice on that? DO we count the rising sign like a planet when thinking about Singletons?

According to Bob Marks:

If a planet happens to be the only one in an element, quality, or house type, that planet is a Singleton and it can funnel all of the “energy” of the horoscope. This planet is often the most important one in the horoscope. In other words, if you just interpret the position of this one planet by sign, house, and aspect, you will get to the “heart of the horoscope”. The effect is the same as if that planet were the only one on one side of the chart.
http://www.bobmarksastrologer.com/13.0Singletons.htm

When Mercury is a singleton there are special, unusual issues in terms of thinking and communicating. The person with a natal Mercury singleton has special gifts and/or problems with perception and communication - for example, an opera singer who stutters badly when she speaks, but never when she sings lyrics. These people are misunderstood, especially in childhood. Winston Churchill was considered stupid and beaten by his teachers when he was a young boy. As a statesman/politician, his speeches were a source of inspiration and encouragement to his own country, and the entire free world during and after World War II. http://www.astrologyclub.org/ (Mercury as a Singleton)

The singleton Venus tends toward exaggeration, projection and displacement of sensual and relationship issues. It is the Eternal Aphrodite archetype. Touching, pleasure, and an emphasis on beauty and sensuality are present. There are likely to be problems with body functions such as oral dependencies and sex addition. Common issues revolve around food, sex and money. Issues with specialness in relationship-making abound. There tends to be a deep-rooted pattern of the classic adolescent looking for an idealized relationship. Relationships are passionate, intense, unrealistic and filled with teenage-type game playing.

In Earth and Water signs, a Venus singleton tends to function in the Taurus phase, on the physical level. In Air and Fire signs it acts like the Libra phase at the mental and relationship level. Two women well known to the author, “Rochelle” and “Donna” serve as examples. Rochelle has her Venus singleton in Taurus (only Earth), in the 6th house. It is in an Earth sign and an Earth house. She has had her share of substance-related health issues. However, she has in recent years found a productive outlet for her Venus through the study, practice and teaching of right nutrician as a path to health and healing.
(venus as a Singleton)

I hope this helps. Bob Marks and the Astrologyclub.org sites have alot of great information on singletons and astro lessons.

Pid, thank you for that!
My Triple Gem has a singleton--Mercury in Cancer, his only planet in water. At least I'm pretty sure, I'll check his chart when I get home...

Now, this man has Sun Mars and Venus all in Gemini, plus Virgo rising (with Pluto and Uranus conjunct that asc.)--so Mercury is a very important planet for him!

And that it's a singleton in Cancer is very interesting. Yes, he typifies Gemini in many ways, but he also has a deeply romantic and emotional side that I absolutely love, and I have often wondered from where it came. I'm guessing it's this Mercury in Cancer...I'll read your articles soon.

Just wanted to say thanks.

I don't know much about singletons, but my Mars definitely is one, my only planet in an earth sign (Virgo) and it's in the 8th house. I've always thought my mars is one of my strongest planets. I have a definite Virgo-Scorpio streak in my personality desipte 4 planets and MC in Sag. Anyone know anything about Mars/8th house singletons and care to shed some light?

Lapierre:

Hey! We have some similar planets. Well, I have Moon, Mars, Mercury, Pluto and Juno all in Libra. Then Neptune in Sag, and Venus in Virgo. One water (singleton) which is Uranus in Scorpio.

What's your favorite planet-sign placement? I love my Libra Moon. It makes sense with the rest of my chart.

Cheers!

Hi eightdegrees,

First let's look at Mars in the 8th house:

Mars was found in your eighth house at the time of birth. This indicates that your emotions and desires are assertive and strong. There is a liability to overstress certain emotions which create a state of tension, possibly resulting in an intense desire for revenge. Sexual life is of the utmost importance in your existence. In other matters, you are inclined to present an imposing and assertive attitude in dealing with the financial activities of your partner or associates.

You're earthy, persistent, lusty, sensual and emotionally intense. Your sex life is important to you. You're interested in psychic matters and life after death, but if afflicted by Neptune, you should avoid psychic involvement. You flirt with, and are comfortable with the idea of, death. Your death will probably be sudden and if afflicted, violent. This placement is good for politicians, surgeons, investigators, psychiatrists, etc. You often deal with others' assets, sometimes in a public capacity. You often experience strife over your partners money or problems with inheritances. Your actions are often secret and, if heavily afflicted, may involve criminal activity.

And then Mars in Virgo:

You have energy and skill where your work is concerned, especially if you work with tools of any sort. Your work environment must be well organized. You enjoy routine and can perform monotonous tasks extremely well. If afflicted, disagreements with co-workers, employers or employees can threaten your job security. Your tendency to overwork and over-worry can lead to skin or stomach troubles. You get very irritated if others don't work as hard as you do. You're ambitious, but find it hard to be constantly responsible. Your actions are carefully planned, systematically executed and must have a practical purpose. You must not let your perfectionist attitude prevent you from accomplishing your goals or waste so much time on details you can't see the whole picture. You're fussy and highly critical, often over inconsequential details. You're cool, scientific and logical, but if afflicted, can also be nervous, irritable, over-critical, scheming and suspicious. You're idealistic and very willing to serve, but may lack passion and imagination at times. You have very little patience for social butterflies.

Now Mars as a Singleton and in Virgo:

Mars is expressed most easily and naturally in Fire signs who are quick to anger and quick to get over it. Earth signs tend to displacement of anger. Taurus eats when angry; Virgo gets busy tidying up or criticizing; Capricorn goes to work, back to the office or to the gym. Water signs are hooked on pain; they tend to cry and act out dramatically, or get drunk. A man with Mars in Pisces cannot express anger or even healthy assertiveness when he is sober. He goes to sports bars to watch the game, gets drunk and then gets into fights! Air signs will rationalize, justify and explain anger, “head trip” it.Mars in Virgo tends to be the “fuss budget” and the “worry wort.”

Mars symbolizes many things about which there are some very strong social taboos. Anger, rage, aggression, raw sexual energy (libido), are among them. People are fascinated by sex and violence, obsessed with speed (both fast moving and the drug), and competitiveness! What the society tries to suppress comes out from the collective unconsciousness with a vengeance. Survival issues are exaggerated. Mars singletons are not unusual in the charts of men imprisoned for violent crimes. And they are also frequently found in the charts of athletes.

There has been a general tendency in the past, and it persists in many cultures still, for there to be a remarkable gender differentiation when Mars is a singleton. It is more of a problem for women than for men. Women tend to deny, repress, and project it a lot. Women, in general, dislike being assertive, yet fear and hate the angry men they almost always attract. Men tend to overcompensate as Mr. Macho, super-achiever. They may be highly competitive in a “cut throat” way. They have exaggerated ideas of what a man should be, such as having a permanent erection and seducing every woman who attracts them. They may prefer the company of men, hang out with “the boys.”Ordinary men may tend to express excess “macho” attitudes, or act out in daredevil ways. Women with it may tend to attract angry, sexual men, although many times these days women do find positive personal outlets for a Mars singleton. A client has her Mars singleton in Aquarius in the 8th house. She has had many sexual affairs, and her only son is a movie stuntman who skydives and races motorcycles. She was an officer in the military and stayed active in the reserves until retirement. She both did her Mars and projected it onto the men in her life.

Women with Mars singletons are interesting characters. They stand out in their fields because of their drive, assertiveness and leadership. They show remarkable ability to pioneer and to survive.

Clara Barton with her two times singleton Mars in Virgo in the 6th house was a pioneer in the field of health and medicine. She founded the American Red Cross, an appropriate symbol for Mars. She had volunteered as a battlefield nurse in the Franco-Prussian War and the U.S. Civil War. She once remarked that she had to wring the blood from her clothes before she retired for the night on the battlefield. She earned the moniker “Angel of the Battlefield.”

The article ends with a note that they looked mostly at positive uses of Mars as a Singleton and that on a mundane level, Mars seems to work on the lowest or most destructive level most of the time.

In other words, always keep that Mars Singleton in the back of your mind. If you feel the need to attack someone by cutting them to shreds - verbally - by criticizing their every move - well, that may be Mars acting up. As a Singleton it is always aware - wondering who it going to launch an attack.

I had a Virgo friend with a Mars Singleton in Leo in his 12th house. He was ALWAYs paranoid. He would go from being this really outgoing (Mars in Leo happy) semi-romantic and caring dude (Virgo Sun and Cancer moon) to all of a sudden, watch out he is on he attack. He would launch into some of the worst language and do WEIRD things, like yell outside of the window from his car at some person on the sidewalk. He collected guns and porn.

With your Mars Singleton in the 8th house, look at ways to use that energy for 8th house situations. Don't let sex become a battlefield or the place where you critique your partner out of anger.

My favorite part is Libra X4 with the Leo rising. Libra, which gives me the love of beauty, the charm and tact to get what I want. Leo the edge and confidence to push alittle for what I want...

I also have Jupiter in Capricorn and north node capricorn, so that mean I am once a singleton through Mercury. and maybe Neptune?

Ahhha, I see LOL....I knew there was something off about the line up..okay you are a Merc singleton and possibly a Neptune Singleton as well. I don't think we count the ascendant, but could be wrong.
