In a synastry chart between partners, astrologers traditionally consider the aspects between the woman's Mars and the man's Venus, and, to a lesser degree, the man's Mars and the woman's Venus, to be the most important.
But I actually feel the Mars-Mars and Venus-Venus relationships to be just as important -if not more so. I guess a composite chart reflects the relevant positions in its result, but even so, only gives half the story. For example, Venus signs of both partners show how both partners are likely to express love, whereas Mars represents the sexual drive, which are two different things, so comparing the Mars of one partner with the Venus of the other doesn't seem to make sense, somehow.
Any advances?? (no pun intended)

I agree with you about Mars/Mars, Venus/Venus being really important.

I think maybe the Mars/Venus thing has to do with ACTION. How aggressive is the hunt going to be ... beauty and the beast ...

But, then, why is it not the MAN's Mars and the WOMAN's Venus that are compared, rather than the other way around??!

Maybe... and this is just thoughtful pondering (!!!) maybe a Womans Mars is her one strong masculine planet, and how she is physical-energy wise, and also as we know shes a woman I guess maybe its important to know her 'masculine side..... (does that make sense!!)
And vice versa with the man, how he expresses his loving feminine side, and what he wants in a relationship and his capacity for love (all feminine Venus things.)
Basically its like the Womans male energy and the Mans female energy fuse together to make a Yin-Yang mixed circle...!! (Which, if u dont know, represents the two growing from each other, the small circles get bigger then the opposite colour grows ect!!)

Also, dont u think when a Woman is in a love relationship with a Man; she tends to get stronger, more confident and independant, and more settled which are quite masculine things, and a Man in love becomes more loving, sensitive and emotional which are more feminine things.
Its like the two sexes become more like each other and bring things out of each other which make them a more full rounded person!!!
WOW!! Nice one Aries Tiger, I only just thought about this now!!
Cool subject, also liked AstroJ's comments!

ariestiger, I actually read that if the man's Mars aspects the woman's Venus, it's a little easier than if the other way around, because the Mars owner will probably be the more sexually aggressive, and this doesn't always feel all that comfortable to a woman, nor to a man on the receiving end of it. Behavior patterns fall into more traditional conventions if the the man owns the Mars, and the woman owns the Venus. BUT it is still quite a compelling aspect, whichever way. And, as gender roles become less and less polarized, the awkwardness decreases as well.

In my current relationship, in Synastry we have:

Venus conj Venus
Mars conj Mars
Venus conj Mars

We both have both planets in Cappy, and its a tight conjunction.

The Venus conj Venus gives us similar taste in foods, people, lots of things in common.

Mars conj Mars makes us similar in how we approach sexuality, and our career goals.

Venus conj Mars give us intense sexual attraction.

Our approach to how we handle love and our emotions is very similar, Venus in Cappy IMO is not a great position. It can make us seem aloof and detached.Because we both have it, we understand how to make each other feel special and cared for.

This is a great relationship.

We also have lots of challenging aspects (especially Saturn and Pluto- lots of karma being played out here!). But I feel very close to him. Our Moons are also compatible - mine in Cancer his in Pisces.

One thing that struck me today was the nature of the house a woman's Mars or man's Venus is in. It seems to tell one a lot about the AGE of the partner they'd like. For example: I have Mars in Gemini in the 10th, so, whilst I love a man with a youthful outlook, I also need him to be at least 5 years older than me! I have never, ever, gone for younger men.
My husband's Venus shows an almost complete reversal. It's in Capricorn, in either the 2nd or 3rd. I wondered for a while why he always said he wanted someone much younger than himself, despite the fact that his Venus placement would seem to indicate a preference for an older or more mature woman.
My father's Venus is in Taurus in the 7th; he always goes for women who are quite obviously "women", fairly responsible, and not girlish!
Amazing how it seems to make sense!
