Here, I'll narrow it down- does your ruling planet have a lot of significance in your chart? If so, does anyone have any links that talk about the importance of the ruling planet, etc? My ruling planet is Mercury, which is in Aquarius and the ninth house, but I'm just wondering if it's just as significant as the next planet or not. Thanks : D!------------------ "Out of your depth or not, it's up to you whether you sink or swim." IP: Logged |

I don't know if this is true in general, but personally I get a few of my major traits from my ruling planet.IP: Logged |

AJ- Yours is Venus - being a Libra. So is mine - being a Taurus.I think the ruling planet does have alot of signifi. I also have a mutual reception to my ruling planet. Which is Venus in Gemini and Mercury in Taurus. Merc. in the 3rd and Venus in the 5th - 6th house cusp. Venus rules art - among other things - and I am an artist. There are other factors in my chart that I think help this - but I'm sure it also has at least a little to do with my ruling planet Venus. Paras is also a Libra - and he is an artist. Astro - I know you are a writer - and I think I remember you mentioning once you were into graphic arts. Am I correct?

Your ruling planet is the planet closest to your ASC. If you don't have a planet conjunct to your ASC in either the 12th or first house, move along your chart counterclockwise to the first planet (nodes, asteriods and fixed stars don't count) and that can act as your ruling planet (some astrologers would disagree with this, however). "Strong" ruling planets fall very close (conjunct or at least within 17 degrees) to the ASC (this is also called a rising planet), or are in the 1st house. A ruling planet as a fundemental affect on your personality, and gives you a certain type of orientation that is influenced by that particular planet. That's what people usually mean if they describe themselves as things like "Uranian," "Martian," "Venusian," etc (I'm not sure what you're called if your moon's your ruling planet - a Lunatic? ) Like for my chart, Pluto is 12 degrees from my ASC, and so it's my "rising" planets, but I also have Uranus in my 1st house, near the 2nd house cusp. Normally it would be said that Pluto is my ruling planet, but I can tell you quite assuredly that while i do project a Plutonian persona on the surface, I am just as much if not more an Uranian type. So I would say that Pluto and Uranus are both my ruling planets, because of their profound effect on my personality (I guess that makes me a "Pluranian"? LOL). I'll see if I can't dig up some articles on it. (By the way I posted this without seeing what 26Taurus wrote - that's something else. I'm not sure which is really suppsed to be the "ruling" planet, as I've seen claims of both. I prefer this way) IP: Logged |

Interesting Gemini,I was always taught your ruling planet was the one that ruled your Sun. And that the ruler of your chart was the planet that rules your rising sign - in my case Capricorn - which would be Saturn. You should then look to the house placement where the ruler of you chart resides - for this is an important area for you in this lifetime. But the ruler of your chart can be colored by any planets in close conjunction with your ASC. The ruling planet is the one which rules your sun. At least this is just what I have always read. 26 IP: Logged |

I'm not sure that's right because Everlong said her ruling planet is Mercury, which is in Aquarius. So that can't be it.Is this the one where we look for the next planet counterclockwise to our Sun? (as opposed to Asc?) We talked about that here a long time ago, but don't remember what that was called. IP: Logged |

Wait, what? I thought your ruling planet was the planet that's ruled by your Asc? Okay, I guess it's the ruler of the chart then, so that's what I meant. *Is a bit confused right now*------------------ "Out of your depth or not, it's up to you whether you sink or swim." IP: Logged |

Ah, thanks lalalinda- it wouldn't have made much sense to me the other way, because that would mean that Mars and Jupiter would be my rulers since they're both in Taurus. Heh, and I really don't have any Mars traits.------------------ "Out of your depth or not, it's up to you whether you sink or swim." IP: Logged |

Ever - what I meant was that - you know - Venus rules Taurus - Moon rules Cancer - Sun Leo - Uranus Aquarius - and so on. That's what I always though. But maybe I'm wrong.... IP: Logged |

I still think I am right -- (stubborn Taurus )You are talking about your chart ruler. Not ruling planet. IP: Logged |

I was talking about the other method, 26, where the planet that most closely conjucts with your Asc is your ruler. But yeah, I think you're right, I'm probably talking about the chart ruler. So lalalinda, just to get this straight, your chart ruler is the planet that rules the sign of your Asc, and it's just as important as your sun or moon? Because that's what I was talking about in the first place .
