I don't see what's strange or improper about these toys...
There's nothing wrong about having the children remember what has become part of America's history. They will also study this in history books a few years later, won't they?

Yes, but each parent here chooses how to parent their child.

Some day those toys will be seeling on ebay for hundred of dollars. That's really bizarre. Honestly it doesn't bother me that a child would have seen that - afterall disturbing imagery and ideas are a big part of many children's stories and games, when you really look at it. Little Red Riding Hood is about rape, and in the original Little Mermaid, the mermaid committed suicide. "London's Bridges" is about the Black Plague that horrifically killed far more people than the 9/11 and scarred Western culture to this day. The psychology behind the cultural phenomenon of using distrubing imagery and concepts in child's stories and games is sort of ironic pedagogy: it makes the dangers seem less real to a child's mind while introducing them to those very dangers (curiously, it is not unlike how parents often attempt to talk about sex with their young children should the topic unavoidably come up). In a way I think such a toy could be seen the same way. I'm sure that's not very PC to say that.

However, I do find it troubling that someone designed that toy and then distributed in such a sneaky way. That I think should be the real cause of concern.

Right, like, the toy company acted very suspiciously when they tried to question them, you know? That wasn't cool AT ALL.

And for all the reasons you bring up is why one must always have one foot in reality.

Gemini Nymph, that's an interesting way of looking at childhood stories/etc, I never thought about it that way, even though that is what the stories are- you know, Little Red Riding Hood and co. Wow, that's something that's going to be on my mind for awhile. You never really think about that when you're a kid, so when you grow up you never really question the innocence of those stories either. That's really something.
