This is a special placement for Jupiter even retrograde. There are only 3 planets that are happy in the 12th house and Jupiter is one of them (its co-ruled by Pisces)
Jupiter here is spiritual, In a sense you're "protected" this placement recieves help at the last minute. You are able to turn enemies into friends. What sign is Jupiter in and what is your asc.?

"Retrograde planets are thought to be weak in their effect, which is true for the personal planets of Mercury, Venus and Mars but it is not so with the outer planets which stay Retrograde for up to six months.

Jupiter Retrograde - Such persons often get success in other people's failures. They have the unique ability to succeed in projects that were abandoned by others. Such people revive sick companies and uncover hidden assets. In order to achieve their mental goal they prefer to bargain."

Also, here's really good animation to help us visualize how a planet going Retro appears :::

And yet more info on having Natal Retro Jupiter :::

"Natal Retrograde Jupiter

(Bil Tierney)

As Jupiter governs the principle of expansion and outreach in the social sphere when direct, its retrograde condition in the natal chart signifies an individual who is not as apt to seek his potential for abundance, enrichment, and prosperity from matters of the mundane world. Instead, he is more inspired to search within himself for opportunities for growth. He seeks to widen his horizons from a more subjective point of view. There is often experienced inwardly a fuller sense of protection, well-being, and inner peace. The benevolent expression of this planet is more psychologically realized.

Thus, the individual is likely to be more internally contented and self-satisfied than he may outwardly appear to be. Of course, this could promote procrastination concerning making realistic use of tangible, practical opportunities presented to him by the environment (especially if they involve a committed effort on his part). The vision, scope, and foresight of this planet can turn towards inner needs, and thus are often channeled through abstract mental objectives or spiritual objectives more easily than through strictly material aims.

Interestingly enough, this individual tends to have a harder time being giving and generous on the material level with what he possesses (whether physical goods, talents, or other personal assets). He holds back from spontaneous expression in this regard. Yet he is likely to be more frely giving of his insight and inspiration. Being a more ponderous Jupiter, this individual can feel less casual and more carefree than one would with a direct Jupiter. He is more attuned to abstract principles than direct Jupiter individuals are, but can feel less of an urge for active social participation.

This individual has strong philosophical leanings, but appears less enthusiastic or eager about broadcasting his beliefs and revelations to others... at least in the straightforward, self-promotional manner of one with Jupiter direct. He is rather more concerned with deepening his own personal comprehension of the lofty ideals he seeks, in an attempt to gain greater inner freedom through wisdom and self-enlightenment. As the more universal, abstract side of Jupiter can be more readily tapped when it is retrograde, this person is motivated to establish a clearer grasp of extended life principles, theoretical propositions, cosmic realities, and absolute truth. Deeper insights can come to him through dreams, inner visions, and inspired states of thought... although his interpretation of their import tends to be highly subjective.

Yet this in itself could impair one's judgemental ability. This individual normally has more faith and trust in his own potential than in that of others. He is apt to believe more in himself than in anyone else, although he is not arrogant about it. This tendency may be the source of his inability to recognize the fuller benefits of most of the worldly opportunities that come his way through the energies of others. His inner voice is more prone to direct him, suggesting that he is intent upon self-guidance. This can make him very dedicated to the path of growth he chooses for himself, regardless if this is a solitary or impractical path.

As Jupiter retrograde denotes one who is less content with common material comforts, physical luxuries, or mundane prosperity, this person is seldom impressed by worldly bigness or social affluence. He is less a preserver of class traditions. Even if he does attract material benefits in his life, his natural inclination is often to minimize their importance. He feels detached from them. The wealth and riches he instead yearns for are moral and spiritual. He wants to sense abundance internally.

This could denote an inability to wisely handle or enjoy large amounts of money, or to profit from elevated social status. He may even reject these if they should be bestowed upon him, in favor of pursuing a less socially valued ideal. Religious interests are likely to be expressed as internal states of consciousness rather tahn formal outer observances or traditionally orgnanized rituals and ceremonies adhered to by the masses, since retrograde Jupiter is less concerned with form and structure within the social sphere. The individual often chooses to follow a faith or belief-system that is more custom-tailored to his own inner calling. His world view can be very unique and unorthodox. He resists indoctrination, preferring to think for himself about the weighty issues of human existence.

Another way of viewing retrograde Jupiter is that the individual can find benefits in areas that are less recognized as being fruitful by others. He can be adept at tapping into hidden potentials and turn them into uncommon opportunities. Because of this, the natal house that Jupiter occupies may not appear as lucky or fortunate as would normally be expected unless one is willing to search for deeper and less obvious advantages.

(Martin Schulman)

Jupiter, the great beneficient giver, is symbolized by the Crescent of Soul rising vertically from the Western arm of the Cross of Matter. When matter and Soul combine harmoniously, each is able to fulfill the other. It is interesting to note that the Western arm of the Cross is highly significant as the West always symbolizes maturity of that which has grown out of its birth in the East. In the normal symbol, the Cross of matter appears east of the Crescent of Soul. Thus, what the individual has materialized early in life forms his wisdom later on.

For the Retrograde Jupiter, the inverted symbol shows the Crescent of Soul in the East transporting the Cross of matter to the West. Thus, what the individual knows within his Soul early in this life (and as a result of past incarnations) is always what gives birth to what he experiences in matter later on. This can make the Retrograde experience a highly spiritual journey if the individual chooses to use it to its best potential.

There is a type of incorruptible insistence on truth in the Retrograde Jupiter as it does not depend so much on the changes in matter that often sway the meanings of so many other planetary configurations. The individual is free to experience himself on a more pure level than if his truth depended upon his material existence.

At the same time, thie configuration causes conflict with the outer world, as idealism takes precedence over practicality. A natural affinity for Jupiter's pure truth creates a distaste for the mundane everyday experiences of life.

The individual with Retrograde Jupiter is a living truth unto himself. His ideas about right and wrong, the morality of the world he travels in, and the fairness of other people's opinions have little effect on what he feels inside. In a powerful attempt to be righteous, this person develops his own unique set of standards. Usually, these are coming from past personal experiences early in this life as well as from other incarnations, and do not necessarily reflect mass consciousness, as much as they do the individual's privately formed conception of the universe.

He is highly conscious of different places and how much they are similar to each other. At the same time, he is conscious of different levels in his ways of thinking. Always a student of the mind, he seeks to experience an abundant richness within himself which he hopes will eventually equal the possibilities that are available to him in the outer world. Often this causes him much discontent, manifesting itself as an inner restlessness. He likes to get on with things, grasping the essence of an idea and relating to its importance rather than the details necessary to put that idea into practice.

If well aspected, he can be strongly motivated, but has to guard against trying to do too many things at the same time.

Basically, he is a free spirit. And, while he will conform to the ideals of society which are helpful to him, he struggles constantly to maintain his sense of individuality.

Some with this position have great wisdom, amounting almost to a prophetic ability. Quiet, unless spoken to, they can in a few words sum up the essence of a long, involved, detailed projects, which would enmesh others in a multitude of trivia.

As much as the individual is capable of being conscious of it, his intrinsic self-honesty is one of his most important identifiable characteristics. If poorly aspected, the Retrograde Jupiter can cause a person to hold grudges from past incarnations. In these cases, a long past desire to get even becomes reprojected onto new people in the present. Fortunately, this is the exception rather than the rule; for the Retrograde Jupiter affords the individual an opportunity to see himself through his higher mind.

When he does this, some of his personal self-involvement gives way to a higher and more impersonal understanding. The development of richness in the inner being ultimately takes precedence over the desire to acquire riches in the outer world.

The Karm in the Retrograde Jupiter always deals with introspection through the higher mind. The individual must be able to justify himself to himself in order to feel that he is truly worthy of the respect and honor that Jupiter promises.

In some former incarnation, there had to be a high regard for some religious or spiritual principle which the individual has violated. In the current life he feels even more determined to restate the value of this principle in his mind.

He has to guard against being judgemental of others, as he sees an outer world vibrating to rules he cannot fathom. Still, he must have patience with others, if he expects them to listen to the expression of his inner truths.

On another level, there is a tremendous amount of déja-vu experiences inherent in the Retrograde Jupiter. Times and places from the past all blend into a continuous present, such that at any given moment or in any given place, the individual is in touch with generalizing that time or place into all like times and places he has experienced. Thus, his consciousness expands through these two dimensions simultaneously, and often without limitation. He does not know how to bind his mind totally inward to a fine point focus. Instead, he absorbs the symbols of his thoughts from his environment, ultimately to learn that anywhere is home, and any time is now! The more these outer symbols represent the truths he learned in a former life, the more comfortable he becomes.

(Mohan Koparkar)

The retrogradation of Jupiter condenses its good qualities to a few concentrated areas of life. Thus, overall results will show good luck intensity periodically, rather than continuously. Here the optimism, over-expansion, and prudence are controlled by the native due to unknown circumstances. At one point in life, he definitely turns inward to evaluate his philosophies and life values. This inward search soon instigates his exploration of the unknown, metaphyics and spirituality.

This awareness of the outside influence of the cosmos upon him enlightens the inner being but inferiors teh ego. Financial fluctuations or changes from one exterme to another are most likely to be seen in this case. If the native is born in inadequate, limited, or poor circumstances, he will do his best with success to achieve something tangible in life. On the other hand, when born in a rich, materially comfortable state, he will try to explore other areas of life, and material pleasurism may not be his priority. Circumstances force him to be less optimistic as his expectations and reality can be far apart. Total changes, modifications, or adjustments in his life philosophies, ehtics, and standards are seen all through life.

It is hard for him to maintain the consistency of philosophies over a long period due to circumstantial manipulations in his beliefs. In early life, he may neglect the importance of education or give up easily the opportunity for other life goals. However, as he grows older, he realizes the significance of missed educational learning. As a result, renewal in the interest for knowledge, wisdom, and philosophy boosts later in life. Problems or just circumstantial frustrations through children are noticed. In certain cases, this native may not have any offspiring or family continuation of his own. Material good luck can be with him when he does not need it. On the other hand, when he expects the resources most, things may turn their backs upon him. Reversals in legalities, litigations, or institutional matters are noticed. Fluctuating publicity or self-recognition reversals that he has no control over occur here.

Excellent success in various areas of life is seen as long as he does not expect it to be long-term. Thus, a nine-year good luck cycle often maintains in his life. He may have to swallow his pride adn ego when things turn back upon him, but he has to take life seriously in spite of his inner compulsions to be happy-go-lucky. Dealing with people of different background, cultures, and beliefs seen here. When applicable, the second marriage can be uniquely different, full of independence, idealistic, and free-floating type.

Physiologically, liver, glandular functions and muscles need periodic attention. Faith in life is often tested by circumstances, with periodic rewards for maintaining it properly.

(Erin Sullivan)

The separation of the Sun and Jupiter when it is retrograde is balanced almost perfectly between the stationary-retrograde trine and the stationary-direct trine. As soon as Jupiter makes the first trine, moving into the opposition zone from the Sun, it is within only a few days of actual station and virtually motionless.

Of all the retrograde positions, this one seems the least malefic, if only because of the diversity of its possible external expression. The polymorphic nature of the God Jupiter, his depth and breadth of influence, all contribute to the difficulty in isolating characteristics and definitive traits to assign to the astrological planet. Most of Jupiter's keywords and traits are abstract and philosophical, easily translated into a variety of expression and not easily delineated.

This is partly due to the fact that Jupiterian traits transmute through cultural eras, and its influence seems to change with social fluctuations and beliefs. For instance, what is thought of as 'Bohemian' in one culture is another culture's easy peasant life. Likewise, Bohemian in one era might become middle-class in the next generation. Even though, as the supreme deity of the Greek pantheon, Jupiter's position was absolute and his word ultimate, the implicit rules that cultures and societies embody always fluctuate with teh religious and moral ethos of the time. Boundaries and definition in the form of creeds and laws do change.

The relationship between the Sun and Jupiter is naturally supportive and complementary - indeed, we find that Jupiter / Zeus was a dispenser of laws, representative of Helios, just as Apollo was. The Sun appears to collude more happily with Jupiter, even when in quincunx or opposition! Jupiter's role in the development of the ego might well be to overinflate it periodically in order for it to experience limits and mortal definition.

The strongest common threads found in horoscopes with Jupiter retrograde are: a split social or religious background; a revolutionary parent; a restless, unsatisfied home background, or one in which social status was acutely important, either positively or negatively; an overinflated sense of adventure or valour; tunnel vision about education, either feeling inferior intellectually or being obsessed with research or single-focus education; passionate identification with tribalism.

Jupiter retrograde is frequently found in the charts of those who respond to an instinctive sense of justice, one at odds with the family's idea of proper behaviour. They find they must leave their birth background, sometimes literally emigrating or abandoning their cultural surroundings, to find their own, personal 'tribe'.

Both trine aspects promote an easygoing type of person, one who feels gifted in some way and frequently is. An inner sense of propriety and righteousness may occasionally manifest as complacency and lack of ambition, a preference for allowing the gods 'to will it', rather than to work assiduously at long-term projects. The deep inner knowledge of being privileged, if not balanced by more humble features in the horoscope, emerges through the personality as the 'special one' or the 'divine child'. Being internally confident of support from the immortals can result in hubris - overextension of one's true boundaries and an exaggerated sense of omnipotence.

The opposition of the Sun to Jupiter manifests in inflation, where the Sun's power as a vehicle for the ego is magnified, and feelings of omnipotence charge the system. The manic phases are often balanced by the extreme opposite - an inordinate sense of inadequacy or, positively, humility. The moral tone can be quite vibrant in the Sun-Jupiter opposition, but the undertone may be fear.

Out of this anxiety can arise great work and tremendous courage and optimism; a solid, working faith in a supreme deity or power; and the capacity to inspire others by transferring an inner spirit across matter. Humour, a form of cosmic healing, is not unavailable to Jupiterians who recognize their relative unimportance in the greater scheme of things."

sorry for bringing back this long-forgotten thread. as a newbie here I'm trying to read all the threads available in this forum (it will take years )
my natal jupiter is not retrograde, but still it's in the 12th house squaring my MC-Chiron conjunction. here is how I suppose it works: once I was rejected a job because my IQ test results seemed too good to my potential employers (not bad but still NO job); or I received a job offer (which I didn't even seek) and in a few days they announced that the position was cancelled; at times I am offered several projects at a time and have to reject some of them etc. so my understanding is that it's not that I am NOT lucky but due to 12 hs and square influence it's sort of "perverted" luck. do you think I'm right in my interpretations? any comments are welcome!!

mysticme74 - my jupiter is retrograde in the 12th house also! mine's 0 degrees gemini. once upon a time elmiah told me that jupiter in the 12th is like a guardian angel, very lucky and that because it's rx may give us an "all is well" inner feeling. i definitely agree with this!

here's a quote from one of my books regarding retrograde planets in general...

quote:
retrograde planets are best understood from a magnetic perspective, from an energy point of view, and their activity is best understood conceptually as a time dynamic. direct planets are electrical, and they cause energy to charge and move; retrograde planets are magnetic and draw energy into the chart. therefore, when chiron is retrograde it draws in healing, initiatory, and alchemical powers. going through my files, i noticed that the clients with chiron retrograde are more alluring, more fascinated by magic and the occult themselves, and draw this energy to themselves. the time dynamic refers to the fact that retrograde planets tend to function in the past, present, and future simultaneously. in the short run on the physical plane, this time dynamic is confusing beacuse with direct planets the action just starts at a point in time and goes forward, and it is more easily observed, but this time dynamic lends great subtlety to the psyche.
the outer planets are retrograde more frequently than the inner planets; the sun and moon are never retrograde, of course; and it can be asserted that the energies of the outer planets are the most subtle due to the longer retrograde phases. the time dynamic goes to an extremely subtle level with chiron. the three aspects of the deity in druidic theology are beli (future destroyer), yesu (present and savior), and tartan (past and creator). this triple deity is present for those who have chiron retrograde. that is, they are worried about the future and meaning of the destructive forces; they feel the essence of the present or savior; they search for the esoteric meaning of the past or creation. that is the tune they dance to, and the sooner they can identify the effect it is having on their consciousness, the sooner they can put it into perspective. this is a deep and intense response to the universe which offers great wisdom and creativity as soon as it is integrated into the psyche. the house position of chiron retrograde will describe the avenue of perception of this powerful vortex of perceptual sensitivity.

p.s. incase yer still wondering, yer jupiter is indeed in the 12th house @ 10 degrees pisces, retrograde
