After watching that new reality-TV series 'Regency House Party' the other night on PBS (anyone else watching this?) it reminded me of 'Pride & Prejudice'. Especially that fab TV version with Colin Firth as Mr. Darcy. So it got me to wondering what the astrological signs are of all the characters. I think that Mr. Darcy is a Capricorn and that Jane Bennett is either a Cancer or a Libra. She's very gentle so maybe a strong Pisces influence mixed in there too. And Lydia Bennett has Sagittarius written all over her. I'm still trying to guess what Elizabeth Bennett is. She's very headstrong so I'm thinking Aries or Taurus.

I'm probably the true oddball here who doesn't watch TV - especially now that I've disconnected my cable.

I'm not a huge watcher of television myself. In fact I probably watch less now than I ever have in my entire life. But I've gotten completely addicted to those PBS historical reality-series where they put people in an historically-accurate setting such as 'Regency House Party', 'Manor House', '1900 House' and the others whose titles escape me at the moment. I love history and I'm a total sucker for these programs.

Is that the A & E version of P & P? That was very good. I saw it when I had the flu lat year, and A & E was repeating all weekend, so I'd wake up, watch a little, fall back to sleep, wake up again, see a different segment...

Yeah I can see Darcy as a Cap, maybe Taurus. I'd say Jane's a Libra.

Yes that's the very one. Although it does last forever and a day, it's totally worth watching IMO.

Reading the book, Darcy reminds me of my exboyfriend who is a Scorpio, with some hidden Gemini. I could see Elizabeth Bennett as a Taurus. After all, they are opposed to each other but also have more things in common than they are willing to realize or admit.

oh, cool.

i was just wondering what signs the characters in "Gone With the Wind" are.

obviously scarlett is an aries. linda even said that. i always saw rhett as a scorpio. they always said he was swarthy with a bad reputation. screams scorpio to me. he was an aqua. in real life though.

melanie could be a cancer or pisces. maybe even a taurus?

ashley is obviously a libra. i think linda alluded to that in her libra rising for me in "Relationship signs".

any other thoughts on the signs of book characters?

i haven't read P&P so i wouldn't know about those characters.

anyone ever read a book where the author included a birthdate or season for the character and you know they knew astrology and based the character on this? i have.

i think if you get stuck writing a book you can make up a chart for the character and then just write them how they would act. heck, you can do whole synastry between fictionate characters. bye bye writers block.

Lilith, are you thinking of Mr. Wickham? I think he'd be a Scorpio, possibly Gemini. LOL. I don't think 19th century social mores would have been very easy for either of those signs.

There's a certain insufferable side to Darcy, but he's still honorable. That really strikes me as a Capricorn.

The mother reminds me a bit of my own mother - probably someonwhere of the tau/Gem cusp.

I think the mother could be a Virgo. She was really fussy and was always trying to make everything and everybody in her environment PERFECT. Mr. Bennett was definitely Libra. That wicked Mr. Wickham was the classic example of the male femme fatale. I see him as being a mix of Aries-Scorpio-Leo with a dash of Gemini thrown in for good measure.

And about GWTW...I read somewhere that Scarlett O' Hara was a Scorpio as Margaret Mitchell had based a good bit of Scarlett's personality on herself and Margaret was a Scorpio. And when Margaret found out that Scorpio Vivien Leigh would be playing Scarlett, she was pleased as she felt that Vivien could truly understand the character as only another Scorpio could. I don't know if this is actually true or not, but that's what I've read. If Scarlett was a Scorpio, I could see that influence in her deep passion and long obsession with Ashley. But I think Scarlett had a strong Fire influence as well. She was too fiery and outgoing and rash to be a self-contained Scorpio completely.
And I think Rhett was a Leo. He was bold, proud, charismatic, and went after Scarlett in the way that only a confident Lion could.

sassy ~

i have heard this about margret being a scorpio too. i always saw scarlett as a scorpio, but i remember linda making referance one time to her saying an aries playing a scorpio. that's what made me think aries! how only an aries could have such faith in "tomorrow is another day". if the character was a scorpio, she deffinately had some aries influence in there. either way, vivien leigh was absolutely gorgeous!

now that i think about it i can see rhett as a leo as well. he always dressed so well and had such a sense of style.
