i'm so confused about degrees in synastry. i learned synastry from linda's relationship sign book and she never mentioned degrees so i'm really clueless.

i've picked up on here that is someone has a venus in leo it can be conjuct someone's mars in virgo. i think i kind of understand this. is it only when the venus in leo is in a very late degree? does the mars in virgo also have to be in an early degree to have it happen? what is the leeway with degrees that allow conjuncts, ect.?

if you have a venus in virgo would that always be conjuct a person's mars in virgo? or does the venus in virgo have to have a "tight" degree with the mars in virgo? can virgo/virgo ever not be conjunct?

also, when it is said that oppositions happen when the signs are 180 degrees away from one another, how can this happen if there are only 29 degree to a sign? or does this just mean on the zodiac wheel, where all degrees are tallied up? does anything i am saying make any sense?

i keep having to write all of my posts twice because i forgeting to put a topic on it and then i hit "back" and it is gone and i have to start all over again. i feel as if i answered some of my previous post's questions, but have come up with new one's in the process. sigh...... so confusing.

also, i have my venus in pisces at 29 degrees. would i interpret this in pisces or aries, or both? are there two schools of thought on this? am i more venus in aries then pisces, but am still some part venus in pisces?

maybe some kind enlightened soul can brave this mess of questions and confusion i just made. thanks in advance. i am just learning so much on here and i want to learn more! this place is a great place to learn. thank you all for making it so! and keeping it free! thanks randall.

Oh boy, lol.

Let's see:

There are aspects by orb (degree) and then there are aspects by sign. When you integrate these too methods together, you get more nuances and it's more complicated, but it gives you a more exact idea of what's going on in a chart. Ancient astrology rarely cared about orb. Sun at 1 Gemini and Mars at 28 Libra would have been a trine to them. Orbs have gotten a lot of attention in contemporary astrology, as we've grown in undertsanding that they do make a big difference, but that need to be but into context. What sign a planet is in ALWAYS matters. So:

1. An aspect that is aspected by both sign and degree, like Sun conjunct moon in Libra within 10 degrees, is the strongest. These are the rally tight and most infleuntial aspects in a chart.

2. An aspect that is by sign only also counts, but is weakened by the width of the degree orb, and so often other, stronger influences can "come between" the planet. For example, Sun at 1 degree Cancer is sign conjunct to Saturn at 20 degree Cancer and will act like a tighter conjunct sometimes. But if this same chart has a tight trine to the Sun by, say Mars, that strong trine will often override that weak conjunction.

3. Aspects by orb only do happen, but are tricky because the differing planet influence may influence the aspect to act in a slightly different way. Like someone here mentioned having a square by orb between two earth planets - while techincally a square by orb, it's more harmonious by sign, so that takes a bit of the edge off the orb square. For conjunctions that bridge a cusp, this can be less harmonius than in-sign conjucntions, and so forth.

As for the 180 degrees question: Yes there's 30 degrees *total* to each sign, and they are *numbered* 0 through 29. You're forgetting the 0. If it was 1 through 29, then there's be only 168 degree in to whole zodiac. Make sense?

Planet that fall on the 29 degree sometimes act like they are in the next sign, especially if there's activity in the next sign. Like me: I have Saturn at 29.7 Taurus conjucnt to Venus at 4 Gemini, plus my MC, Sun and Mercury are in Gemini too, whereas, all I got in Taurus technically besides Satrun is Pallas. Consequentially it does act more like a Gem Saturn, and the result is very dramatic in my chart as my Virgo Pluto in turn acts like a singleton, due to it being the only planet that really acts like an earth planet.

Hope this helps.

When you speak of Conjunctions, Oppossing's, Square's - it means the degrees have been taken into consideration. The orbs people use vary greatly from one astrologer to another. One may say they allow 7 degrees for the inner Planets, some allow 2 or 3. So there's no clearcut example there ...

But most would say, if you eliminate the degrees, and just look at aspects in terms of "same Signs", such as Venus in Virgo for one person, and the other person Moon in Virgo - it's also considered very valid because you are working with similar energies. Then, if you want to include the degrees, you'd realize, the tighter the orbs, the more powerful.

Each sign is divided into 30 degrees, not 29. There's debate on this because it can be confusing, but you would count say, Aquarius in 00.00 degrees as actually being "number one", or the first degree of the Sign.

If something is in the 29th degree, some astrologists have a special belief in the 29th degree being unique. Here's some interesting stuff on that -

Thanks for that article. I once pointed out here that some astrologers consider the 29th degree a weak point, or a point of "no influence," but then got snapped at by someone here who seemed to think I was talking out my a**, so I've sidestepped that issue since. But in essence I hold that the 29th degree is weak int eh sens ethat it's easily influenced by whatever is going on aroudn it, as I have that going on in mt chart. While I don't know if I dig some of that info mentioned in the article, and i dont' really have any exerpeicne witht eh specific palcements mentioned, the fundamental notion that this is a weak and therefore complicated and potentially troublesome point in the chart I'd definitely agree with. There's no argument here that my Saturn's confused. LOL.

i have a 29th-degree Sun in Virgo and I do sometimes feel more like a Libra than a Virgo. But I've always chalked it up to my five planets (including the Sun and Moon) in the 7th House.

interesting article!

i should have know about 0 degree being counted as the first degree. i have mercury in gemini at 0. i have venus in pisces at 29 and moon in virgo at 29. what the article said about too much or too little was right on. i thought it was me being influenced by the next sign (aries) in venus that was making me so rash in the love department. i cannot tell you how many times i have just thought and thought about someone and what to do about it and then just blurted out i love you! or will you go out with me! it's like i have no control. what they said about jumping off the bridge to see what happens and where to go from there is so me. it's like i have to make a move to see things clearly. hard to explain.

as for the whole synastry orb thing, i think i understand it more now. i'm going to look into taking a class where i live.

as for all you cusp sun signs, can we hear some more opininons on this? which sign do you feel more like?

as for 29 degree planets, does anyone feel that you were held back and need to learn something crucial to that sign before proceeding? is this true? is it like a prision in a sense? a sign that you messed up? what are anyone's thoughts on this? i don't know where i heard this. i don't know if it's true or not. like a cappy sun at 29 would feel the need to be free like a aqua. sun and can not be because he is a cappy. he is in a sort of prison and must now face behaving like a "true" cappy. maybe take care of his family more, ect. before he can progress to aqua. and be free. if this is true, i think the cappy can do that in this lifetime and move to on to aqua. in this life and not have to wait to be born into an aqua. sun in the next.

any thoughts?

Well, for many years, I've attributed my discomfort of this mind and soul being restrained in this body, as I mostly live in my own head and having Asc in Taurus at 29.48 degrees just always made me wish to break out.

There are a few things which allow me that luxury, like making love, a good massage, dancing, sleeping, dreaming, meditation, flirting, etc. The rest of the time my body just feels so heavy.

And this makes my Desc in Scorpio at 29.48 degrees, which may explain why I cannot handle "courting" - I MUST know if everything is working ... and if so, HOW so ...

"... come here a little closer
I want to see you, baby
real close up ..."

As for the example you brought up regarding a Sun right on the crest between two Signs, yes, I believe there is no such thing as being born on a "cusp" - however - the intensity IS different when you're at that late degree. The perfect example to me is Jim Carrey and Andy Kaufman. They were born on the same day. You can see the wackiness of Capricorn influences dueling it out with seductive Aquarian influences, seemingly in the offing.

Starting from the beginning
your sun is at 25 degrees 14 minutes and 36 seconds Taures
you want to calculate the distance to your moon at 13 degrees 48 minutes and 12 seconds Libra
It takes 45 minutes and 14 seconds to get to 26 degrees Taures 4 degrees to get out of Taures
30 degrees for gemini
30 degrees for Cancer
30 degrees for leo
30 degrees for virgo
13 degrees 48 minutes 12 seconds Libra to get to the moon
it should look like this
4 degrees 45' 14" (finish Taures)
120 (gem-vir)
+13 degrees 48' 12"
this equals a distance of 138 degrees 33' 26"
when adding these together remember that there are only 60 seconds to a minute, therefore you don't subtract from 100
I hope this isn't to confusing

thanks so much raleigh21 for posting that very cool site! incase you guys didn't go there, it also talks about planets in retrograde and how they are connected to your past lives. i have 6 plantes in retro. so that was very informative! i'm not sure how thrilled i am about venus in retro. the you had relationship problems in the past and this is your life to finally learn how to have a normal relationship stuff.
yippie!!!!!! sounds like fun already.

and then top that off with my venus being at 29 degrees! yeah, so now i have to learn how to express my venus totally on top of that because i obviously messed things up in the past? wow. fun. i never knew i messed up that bad before.

interesting though. even if it's not true, i am thinking about how i relate to people, and that in itself will help me progress.
