I had to get the permit for work... we sell beer and wine.

It's a gift/card shop with a restaurant and an espresso bar. We play old movies (40+ years and the copy rights are null) in the evenings. Sometimes people come in and drink wine or beer and watch the movies... but... most of our business comes from lunch and espresso.

The owner also owns a wholesale balloon company. They provide a lot of businesses with mylar balloons... grocery stores, pharmecies... things like that.

Awesome. I'm still looking for work (sort of ....slowly... ). There isnt alot of work around here, it sucks, but there was an ad in the paper for a waitressing job that I'm prolly gonna to go for. It's fine dining and I have alot of experience in that area so maybe I'll get it. I reeeally dont want to waitress again, but I gotta do what I gotta do. You know how it goes. The place you work at sounds alot like this coffee shop up the street from me. It's a hip little place. They sell beer and wine too. How are the tips there?

Yeeeepp. I know how that goes. That's one of the reasons I cant stand waitressing. You never know how much money's coming in. I made great money at my last job though. But quit (long story). And you work your butt off for sometimes, nothing. I dont know how it is in Vancouver, but around here waitresses get 2.38 per hour (NH). I think it was 3 dollars here in VT, cant even remember now. So youre relying on those tips. *sigh* Somebody's gotta do it.

Minimum wage here is something like $7.25/hr. I make slightly more than that... but not a lot.

Yeah minimum wage is probably around the same amount here, but it's different for servers. I dont understand why servers get paid like 2 bucks an hour and are expected to live off of their tips but bartenders get regular minimum wage + tips and they make waaaay more than we do anyway. Sucks.
