I hope this doesn't confuse you but the way I remember with the outer planets is the square before

Saturn is exalted in Libra (the square before Capricorn)
Mars is exalted in Capricorn (the square before Aries)
Uranus is exalted in Scorpio (the square before Aquarius)
Pluto is exalted in Leo (the square before Scorpio) etc.

Jupiter isn't the square before either its exalted in Cancer BUT Jupiter is co-ruled by Pisces (the square after)

Neptune is another that doesn't follow the rule, its exalted in Leo

the exceptions are the personal planets so check them out first. Sun, Moon, Mercury and Venus don't apply

it the planet is freely allowed to express its energies and its powers are greatly increased.

... and "detriment" means when their is almost an exact opposition of energies.

Example: Mars in Libra? (I think) does someone know? I gotta run ...

mars is libra is detriment. and its exactly opposite to exalted. but for an evolved soul all squares, opposition, detriments and falls are in favour.
