Hello! This is my first post. I read Linda's Star Signs a long time ago and I've always had just a basic understanding of Astrology. Yesterday I was looking at Astrology dot com and read about the Yod, where the midpoint of a sextile is opposite a third planet. The description said that the Yod is "very fated" and represents significant lessons and issues. I was curious to see if I had one in my chart, and I found one! Are these rare? If you have one, how has it affected you, and what do you do to deal with the issues it brings up? Thanks!

My Yod

The third planet (base of the Y) is the moon at 23 deg. Taurus in the 4th House.
At the left arm is Neptune at 22 deg. Sagittarius in the 11th House.
At the right arm is a heliocentric stellium with the Sun at 22 deg. Libra in the 9th House.
Also part of the stellium: Saturn at 14 Libra, Jupiter at 21 Libra, Pluto at 24 Libra, Midheaven at 27 Libra, and Mercury at 28 Libra (in the 10th House).
Can anyone help me understand this a little better? Thanks!
Lemingtyne

:edit: using the Placidus House system and some other info I found, Neptune is in the 12th house, not the 11th, the MC is at 5 degrees Scorpio, not in Libra; Mercury is in the 9th house, not the 10th, and Chiron is conjunct the Moon at 21 degrees Taurus.

I followed the link in the first post of beebuddy's "cool links" thread and found this:

Yod. This is a quincunx-sextile-quincunx and its appearance is not too uncommon ? especially while Neptune and Pluto have been in a running sextile in recent decades. It features a crisis of and a need for perspective, in which the energies of the two sextiled planets find difficulty integrating with that of the apex, quincunxed planet. This dichotomy is not directly a conflict, rather a bewilderingly dualistic, seemingly irresolvable and compromising situation. This is an 'appointment with power' in which consciousness and its capacity for seeing are tested. It is a secret to be decoded, an intense dilemma, or a visitation from the Unknown. This is where intentions refuse to gel with realities: the solution is available as soon as clarity and insight dawn ? there's a hidden secret underneath which needs dredging up. Allowing things to happen rather than seeking to steer them is what is called for here: yet, underneath, there is a new kind of adepthood which brings in a new form of control without holding on, if we can see it.

The yod can be accentuated when an opposition is thrown in, with two semisextile aspects too. The opposition forces the issue, and the apex planet then becomes very critical: what it represents needs to be consciously worked, owned and integrated. Hairy situations, with remarkable solutions, once found. This is a form of kite, except there is a strong perspective issue here. A yod formed between Chiron in Taurus, Pluto in Libra, Uranus in Scorpio and Neptune in Sagittarius around August 1979 precipitated (at least in my own circles) strong feelings of personal despair, recognition of darkness, difficulty and fault, and an underlying growth of resolve to do something positive about it: this was a forced clarification of issues, internally powerful, emerging into action and demonstration over the 1980s years which followed.

Lemingtyne,

Yods have trouble integrating the various planetary energies involved. I would imagine with the Sag influence; Neptune, sun conjunct jupiter, and then all your 9th house stuff (Sag's natural house), would want to be going on off after new adventures and ideals. You have So much Libra stuff! Do you get thrown off balance?? Are you sometimes too easy going for your own good?

You actually have Aries on your 4th house, which also is restless and wants to go, yet the moon in Taurus there wants a solid foundation and is a grounding element. So these different facets may conflict.

I just read some place that Yods are not fated, as we so often read, but they are challenging.

I would be curious to know if you feel like you're working out a family dynamic, that has perhaps been in place for years. A few people I know with Yods seem to represent the shadow, for some reason, that forces others to see. And this person changes the family dynamic in this way.

How do I discover if I have one in my chart? I have a copy of my chart, but I'm not sure how to check for this.

go to the link above and look for the aspects that define the YOD and see if they are in your list of aspects.

both of these websites describe the yod as this... 2 planets are sextile each other and third planet quincunx's both of them.

in other words. you would need to verify in your list of aspects something like the following...

merc. quincunx jup. quincunx pluto sextile merc. (this is just an example)

try going to astro.com in the extended chart selections do the pullen astrolog simple chart deliniation. its long but somewhere in there are many configurations like the YOD, although im not sure if pullen includes the YOD because ive never seen one pop up. he does include practically everything else, so it might be there.
