Brooke Shields (b. May 31, 1965 1:45 pm New York, New York) has admitted in her book and in interviews that immediatly following the birth of her daughter Rowan (b. May 15, 2003 time & place unknown to me), she suffered not only postpartum depression, but hostile feelings toward Rowan, that has since been cured and (hopefully) overcome. I have never been pregnant, so I have no personal experience with postpartum depression. But it is supposedly very common.
...And I don't want anyone thinking that I'm criticizing postpartum mothers, because trust me, I'm NOT. I love moms and I give you ALL a Mother's Day salute for dealing with all that life throws at you. Anywho back to Brooke: Looking at the synastry between Brooke and her daughter, several things jumped out at me regarding Brooke's former negative feelings toward her daughter:

Brooke's 5th House (children) ruler Saturn squares Rowan's Pluto, which is indicative of anger and conflicts. When Rowan is a teen, these conflicts may REALLY spark. And Rowan's Pluto opposes Brooke's Moon, which could cause Brooke's maternal feelings to react negatively to Rowan. (Brooke said that no matter what, she was unable to bond with Rowan at birth and Rowan seemed like a stranger to her) Rowan's Pluto conjuncts Brooke's IC/4th House, so Rowan brings a lot of heavy energy to Brooke's home.

..I'm sure there are many other indicators of Brooke and Rowan's relationship, but those are the ones that jumped out at me.

I think this is all very interesting in light of the relationship Brooke had with her own mother. Her own mother was a stage mom, who did a lot of manipulating, to the point that Brooke finally broke with her completely. Sounds kind of Moon/Pluto-ish.

It seems like her daughter's birth has kind of triggered the past and brought up the Pluto issues again. That's too bad

(Edited some stuff out from my first post in this thread as I think I was sounding a LOT harsher than I intended.)

devi ~ I think that you are absolutely right that some of Brooke's issues could be related with her own relationship with her mother. Teri Shields was such a driving force in Brooke's life for so many years that it couldn't help but effect her. And Teri battled an alcohol problem in Brooke's early years that was at it's worst during the 'Pretty Baby' period, and that couldn't have been easy for Brooke either. I wish I knew Teri's birthdate, because I'll bet that the synastry between Teri and Brooke's charts is very interesting and revealing.

Her story about her post partum depression is very upsetting, and I hope she and her daughter have an easier future with each other than their beginning. The fact that she's been so public about it is very hopeful.

It is a very real and scary thing for a new mother (and family) to go through especially since you never know what's normal when your first baby arrives, unless you have experience with nieces/nephews or have watched very young babies/children a lot before having your own. That compounded by her upbringing/relationship with her own mother has a lot to do with it tooo...perhaps Brooke had to feel her way around the mothering role, if she had no closeness/role model to take cues from...she's an amazing and courageous person though, I admire her.
