Astrologers on Shyness

Even success, if it is too much too fast, can be harmful to Virgo, who needs to keep his scale small and simple; he can get out of his depth when things get too grand, too opulent, too highly charged with emotion. It is like trying to grow a shy, shadow-loving plant in the full glare of the sun. - Dennis Elwell, Aquarius

A retrograde planet often leaves the speck of an individual's personality tinged with shyness or backwardness... Such a planetary function often possesses extraordinary depth and sensitivity. Retrogradation above all leads to independence.... planet is a gold mine of fresh ideas, but they are buried deeply. - Steven Forrest

Saturn on the other hand appears to be fearful, timid and shy. It is a matter of temperament. The Saturnian influence causes a nervous tension and a tendency towards restraint and reserve which looks like fear; but after the first shock the Saturnian man will pull himself together and stand his ground quite fearlessly. - Alan Leo, Leo

Pisces in particular has a tendency to emotional extreme. Pisces can be self-deprecating, self-pitying, or a self-denying martyr. But it is also compassionate, with an instinctive empathy with outcasts and underdogs. It is a sign that invariably forgives. There can be a shy, passive, retiring nature, it values solitude more than any other sign. - Paul Wright

What about your planets in your nativity.
How many planets in Rx do you have?

I have 4 and 1 stationary.
What type of affect do you think it has on you?

Hi SunChild,
Thank you for posting those quotes, especially the one concerning retrograde planets. I have Mercury retrograde and I was recently thinking that probably has something to do with me being very shy about speaking. I spoke in school only when I had to, and when I did I could feel my face turn red and felt that everyone was looking at me! I was teased because I never talked. I enjoy expressing my thoughts and feelings in writing as a way to better understand myself, but I don't like to share them. I would feel so ashamed and embarrased if someone read my private writings! I also have Chiron retrograde, but I'm not sure how to interpret that.

Lemingtyne, I too have Mercury in Retro and I was definantly shy about speaking, especially in group situations.
I always had the embarrassmen factor.
And I always relied on writing for expressing my self in a way I felt most comfortable. Seems to me, that it is a strong factor.

I found this thosa, from the newage directory: Pluto retrograde in the natal chart indicates the challenge of power, not so much getting power but deciding what to do with it, and how to teach others to use the powerful and sometimes destructive tools at their disposal without destroying themselves and others at the same time.

I'm not sure about Chiron, I haven't found much info.

Sun Child ..

Thanx for post ..
i've got Sat/Nep and Chiron retro in natal

.. read once about Sat retro ( i think ) .. and
.. 'not having faith in one's own creations' ..
come to mind..
.. stiks in my mind 'cause i can realy relate to it
as a musician (hobby)

ps .. see your from oz.
i grew up 'round sydney..
split on an early Sat transit..

cheers again for post
.. just figured ( thru a moderators post elsewhere in LL ) .. that Sat be the ruler of my 7th ..
that does not make me happy :-))

****I'm not sure about Chiron, I haven't found much info
********
SC there be a few links to chiron info at site in my profile data. also on the astro.com site LizG did a pretty good article on it .. except not sure what info lay within regarding retro movement

... and i missed the 'shyness ' bit to your post and that's what caught my eye ..
.. i know on first meeting people .. they often mistake me for being aloof and cold for some reason .. someone once labled it ' being bolshi ' .. thats evidently Brit slang of some sort.. but they explained it as being aloof and such ... i see that as maybe someone picking up on my Ven/Urns aspect or maybe the Urns 1st house .. i don't know
.. but what the truth is .. it's just plain simple shyness ..
and no more ... i guess there could be a connection to the air influence in my chart .. i.e . as coming across 'detached' and emmotionaly 'uninterested'
.. intersting about the 'retro ' connection
'scuse spelling
be well

I'm pretty shy, and wow I don't know what happened but after kindergarten my family moved to Ontario from Manitoba I got sooo shy and timid!!! When I was in kindergarten and preschool I was so curious and invincible, I really stood out. But then somethings along the way made me feel this big ---> . <---- And when I became a teenager, things just got worse!! Post secondary helped alot!!!

great post Sun Child

I don't know if shy is the right word for describing Rx planets.

Rx is more like turning inward or being introspective.
Shyness is more of a feminine planet decription

I have 5 planets Rx (including Mercury) and I am not shy or ever have been. I am the lady standing in the DMV line who turns around and asks you
"think we'll be out of here by lunch?"
