This might sound like begging the question but I think the tendency to get brainwashed by astrology lies in your chart placements...I have an uncle who has Libra stellium and he is very escapist. According to him, hes very naive, wonderful, sweet, blah blah because he is Libra, and poor little him has not been so successful in life because he is Libra and indecisive and other signs are just so much more cunning and Libras just arent. That makes him get his sleep for the night.

Ill agree with Randall but no one is questioning whether Astrology is true or not, but more like, is it a self fulfilling prophecy?

If you read your horoscope after the day ends, does it change the way your day was? No, but it might if you read it before. If you read it before you might be wiser to accidents, moods, changes, tendencies, which is awesome. But you always run the risk of making your fate into what you believe it was going to be. I would think personality and chart readings would fall in the same category, you can see them as a tool to live a better life or a fate that we are destined to and can't do anything about.

Love

That's the kinda thing I find very annoying and self pitying in an unhealthy way .. unhealthy for personal growth

sg: that escapist attitude is not something that ur uncle uses , actually we all use it to some extent to give reasons for our actions . i'll say i do . lets accept this every body does to varying degrees .

To be honest, I think you can fit any astrological profile on any person you want. There's always going to be something there that a person has that'd make them seem like another sign. Which is why I think a) people who are into astrology would kind of be inclined to follow what books say about their sign or whatever, because I guess in some subtle way people could see that as a method of improving themselves as people to highlight certain things that they've become aware of. And b) I'm not convinced that people who know nothing about astro fit their sign the best, all I'm convinced of is that it's possible to see any sign in any person.

What I mean by that, is that as people who are interested in astrology obviously you're going to know alot of characteristics that go with all of the signs. Libra being indecisive is one I saw mentioned. But I mean, I could go out and find a thousand people who are indecisive and I guarantee that not all of them are Librans. It's like saying "oh he's aggressive so he must be an Aries"... if you really want to pigeon hole someone into a sign you can, and easily.

Don't take any of that the wrong way, I'm not one of those "it's all fake, coincidence" etc type of people, I've been shocked by some of the stuff that I've read about my own sign and whatever... but then realised that it could also fit millions of other people of different signs. Depends on how high on your priority list astro is when you're deciding what you think of a person. Is he aggressive because he's an Aries, or is he an Aries who just happens to be aggressive?

Wow there are some really great replies to this post! I thank everyone for their input.Just so you know i don't really believe that you are brainwashed by astrology. I just wanted to throw the idea out there because i have this secret fear that i am going to take my interest in it too far and lose sight of who i really am. I just want to find that balance. You guys all seem to have a good balance from what i have read in your responses.

Thanks for the kind words Cancerrg. I think about things/ideas quite a bit in general, so I write what comes to mind, but my thoughts come from ideas I've already considered. Maybe it doesn't take me long to ponder some things.

Yes, maybe the ones who don't know about astrology fit their signs the best.

But maybe -- we, who do know about astrology, think that they fit their signs, because we only look for their (sun) sign's traits in them and ignore all the stuff that does not fit...

I find that in my journey with astrology, I had a more difficult time dealing with the faults I didn't want to admit than anything. If astrology can help us identify with more positive aspects of ourselves, I think that's good.
