I've never worked with one. But i have read and heard of many instances in where they were used and they worked accuratly.

I remember one woman explaining how she lost her set of keys right before a big important event and no spare in sight. She quickly drew up a horary chart and found them. Although i have read to that some charts and interpretations can take up to a couple hours to decifer, er, answer the question.

I have wanted to have one done, but i havent had a really important question that i need answered, yet!! lol

I've always wondered about those.
How do you build one?

Greetings...

Horary Astrology is a branch of the Art that gives specific answers to specific questions.

The chart is cast for the time and place that the Astrologer receives and understands the question.

The question should be specific such as Will I marry so-and-so? Where are my gloves? Will my son pass the test? Will this book get published? Should I buy the Honda or the Saturn?

The important thing is that you ask only specific, well thought out, and sincere questions. And that you do not ask the chart to make any value judgements.. for example should I marry Bill?

There are very specific rules to interpreting Horary charts. It is a BLACK and WHITE science. There is no psychology involved, and there are no gray shades in Horary... if you are looking for interpretive or value based answers, use Natal Astrology, Tarot or some other divinitory method, Horary is not well suited to such questions.

There are various systems for interpreting charts out there.. Traditional Horary (as taught by William Lilly), Modern Horary, expounded by such authors as Geraldine Davis or March/McEvers.. and a sort of in-between method as taught by Ivy Goldstein-Jacobson and Barbara Watters.. who have good feeling for the Traditional rules, but use the modern planets (Uranus, Neptune and Pluto) which Traditiona Horary does NOT (as they hadn't been discovered yet).

My favorite Horary books are: Horary Astrology and the Judgment of Events by Barbara Watters and Horary Astrology Rediscivered, by a teacher and friend of mine named Olivia Barclay.

Christian Astrology by William Lilly is the masterwork on the subject, and where most of the rules in use today came from. This book is NOT for the light of heart. It is a facsimilie copy of the original text with the funny looking S's that look like F's, and old English idioms of speech that were more common during the Middle Ages.

Yes I use Horary. Yes it works. We often learn more though, from the charts that DON'T "work"!

Like the I Ching, Horary Astrology is not to be trifled with... silly questions will often produce silly results. Pressing matters that are nagging on the mind produce the best results. Charts cast for questions sparked by curiosity and not by sincere need, will often contain a "stricture against judgment" that will prohibit the reading of the chart.

Interestingly, the time that one asks his FIRST sincere Horary, will often (eerily often!) produce a chart with that persons natal Ascendant rising in the Horary!

At any rate.. I've rambled long enough...

I suggest that all natal astrologers should study Horary at some point, it will markedly improve your Natal astrology!

Blessings and Light...

A

Someone did a horary chart for me on a forum. It said the relationship wouldn't last.

That sure made my day.

Aselzion,

You've said a lot.
Except how to make them.
And how you get that yes/no out of it.

Greetings...

Well, in terms of casting a Horary, you simply do a chart for the time you ask the question. Or the astrologer will do it for you after you call him/her with the question.

I can't give you any short pithy answers about "how" to do Horary... my suggestion would be to get a hold of any of the books I mentioned above, and look into it for yourself.

The rules are many and often complex... so I'm not being evasive... but there are rules for determining IF the Question is Valid; Whether or not the chart can give a helpful answer...

Truly the best way to learn about horary is probably to check this sit out on the web:

Hope that helps...

Blessings...

I'd say about 90% of what anyone has ever predicted about me has never come true. I'm not sure why that is ...

TranquilPoet,

Aselzion's already said so much about horaries; I just wanted to add a couple of things. I think they are truly awesome - I mean, how cool is it that the heavens reflect our situation at the exact moment that we choose to ask the question! I wanted to add one more thing to what was said, a caveat - no prediction is set in stone! Assuming it is interpreted correctly (and there are no strictures against judgment as per Lilly's rules), the horary chart, like any other divination tool, tells you how things are likely to proceed, given the current situation. You can always try a different approach to cause a different outcome; this tool just tells you how things will pan out if you continue doing what you're doing now. A good horary astrologer can even give you advice on how you could go about changing the outcome if that's what you want. Another thing I wanted to tell you, is that horary charts have a rough expiration date of 6 months to a year (I read this on Dr. Z's Horary FAQ; I can pull up that link if you like).

So, take heart, TP, it's not over until or unless you decide it is!!

Hugs,
Sunshine

Hi there

So, if you asked the question on June 1, at 9:19 pm EDT Astoria NY, then the ASC is 25.01 Sagittarius.

Mercury (7th house ruler) is separating from a trine with Jupiter (1st house ruler, your significator) - that is a past connection.
No applying aspects from the Moon, no translation or collection of light.

So the answer is 'No, it won't last...'

Sorry about this.

I Just wanted to point out a few things

1st Saturn is in the 7th which can be bad news for the person trying to read this chart, it could mean that they will read it wrong.

2nd Venus is also in the 7th, so it is a co-ruler and it does make an applying aspect to Jupiter but it is a square.

3rd Pluto is the 12th, so there may be something hidden, it also makes a square to Saturn (separating)

I am just learning, so sorry for anything I got wrong.

Horary Seeker

PS the house of that rules the out come the 10th is ruled by Venus, which is in the house of relationships.

We are all still learning.

The planets located within 5 degrees of the next cusp are considered as being in the next house. So, technically Saturn is in the 8th and Pluto in the 12th.

Indeed, Venus is the ruler of the 10th, 4th from 7th - end of the story - last Moon aspect before leaving its sign is a sextile with Venus - so indeed they will remain friends.

"The planets located within 5 degrees of the next cusp are considered as being in the next house."

I had not noticed that! I looked at it Very quick.

I'll just go with the flow.
