I'm just wondering if my fellow virgos have experienced basically being seen as a threat to coworkers, potentially when you first begin a job and you're training with others. I think almost every place I've worked at, with the exception of receptionist at a medical office (no one to compete with me?), I have been viewed this way, at least at first if not my entire employment period. I just began a new job and lasted 3 days before someone else in the training room made a snide comment about how I am going to bring the "quota" up, a quota none of us have even seen proof of, just because my natural work speed has exceeded theirs already and we're not even out on the floor. That's something else that happens everywhere I've worked - I work faster than 99% of the employees. This has always led to vengefulness, being taken advantage of work-wise, or unwanted competitiveness on behalf of my coworkers. It has however managed to get me very high raises early on, and out of the training room really fast.

Other Virgos? Does this sound like your experiences at work?

You have to be true to yourself. If that is how you work and you aren't being condescending in your attitude towards others, then just let it go. People will always be jealous and that is their problem.

I have had the same situation in that I do work harder and more efficiently than many of my co-workers - historically. Right now I am on a great team, but there is a bit of jealousy, but that is life.

For the most part I have only experienced animosity a few times and usually by people in other departments that feel my work product makes them look bad. Still, my personality is friendly and I am not working in order to make enemies, but to just do a job. In time they will see that you just work at a faster rate.

If you want to keep those bridges built you can offer to help them out or even let them know it is not a competition. One thing you may have to remember, as you succeed and get promoted, the people you trained with will soon be under you. If you treated them with disdain or contempt (and I am not saying you did at all, I am just meaning as a rule of thumb) for not working to your level, they will never lend their support.

I have always been careful NOT to suck up, but also NOT to look down. I have no time for laziness nor do I suffer fools gladly, but I also don't show off what I have accomplished unless asked.

Sometimes people have a tendancy to become "big-headed" at their successes and end up creating enemies in the long run. Think of that little snide kid in school that bragged about getting A's when others struggled.

Anyway, don't let it get you down and just keep doing what you are doing. As the old Cliche says "The cream always rises to the top".

PS..I am a Sag with a Virgo rising (with Pluto in Virgo conjunct that ASC), Mars in the 6th house trining my Jupiter and MC.

I am all about my work and career.

I understand what you are saying vtt. I work fast too but it comes in fits and starts.

However, I think I am efficient and I find I can overcome obstacles easily (eg computer problems etc) - more so than others in my team. I find others often stop and complain loudly about a problem that I've literally zoomed through, without much trouble. In fact often I find myself wondering why they are making a fuss about it.

The "problem" wasn't an "obstacle" to me, just a glitch!! I never feel the need to vocalise everything I am going through, so I just tend to get on with it.

God, I sound boastful, but honestly it does seem like this.... maybe I'm a little TOO focused on my work!

Maybe i need to chill out more like the others. LOL

Moonshine, I get what you're saying! I work in fits too, then I take a loonng break, so either it looks like I"m working my buns off or lazing around! I understand about "obstacles" too!

LOL I might start chilling out at my most recent job just because I know I'm only there for 2 months, I can get lazy in the last few weeks of a job. I just work my buns off like I do because I want to get the stupid jobs done, not even to achieve or compete!

vtt, me too, I've worked so hard in my current job over the last five years. I mean I've really worked! Theres been loads of changes and long hours, and I guess being a "double mutable" i was always flexible enough and hard-working enough to cope.

But I am slowing down lately, I just can;t be bothered with it any more! More changes are coming up and I have to deal with taking on new staff etc and honestly I feel I havent the energy for it anymore.

But you know what? People dont appreciate you for it. They just take you for granted. And once you set a certain standard, you have to stay there because if you dont, people think you're slacking. I mean, Ive been taking more days off lately due to tiredness, but it annoys me how people sometimes make comments that make it sound like Im not pulling my weight but they easily forget how hard Ive worked already - more than some of them.

I guess Im coasting it a bit till I find another job... once i've saved enough money I plan on going freelance. I never want to work for another employer again.

Im a virgo and yes i can run rings around most of my co-workers. I've never had to seek out a better position, they always come to me ( its happening right now at work-about to get a better one). I was more vocal when I was younger so people did figure me out quick and perhaps got jealous. Now Im more secure in myself, more quiet, i just do it and it seem s different, Plus Im just downright older so I don't need the friends like I did when I was younger. ( i hope that doesn't sound like a criticism, its not meant to be.)

Always! Its hard to deal with but then every once in a while someone comes along and they get me and its like all the pain of the past goes away. My husb for example. I met him at work. He knew what I was doing and he helped me because he got it. Haven't had many since and its been 10 year. Oh yeah my old boss, he got me too. Were still friends.

But doesn't it feel like you're:
- working 10 times harder than everybody else
- yet receiving approximamtely the same amount of recornition
- plus expectations upon *you* are 10 times bigger

Ok well Ive been thinking about this a little more. I do have some positive things in my life that , not that others don't have but that are lasting. Many people attain unlasting rewards. I like to think my lasting good things are what came to me for all of my past efforts. And,,, i can't not be efficient anymore but I can try, try, try not to care quite so much. And i can say no more than i could before.

hey no offense to any virgo out there. i can say this because i am one~and can say after enough life experience you eventually transcend it.

we compare ourselves to others too much. that's the big problem. we are also aware of others/ and our own foibles before anyone else. so typical virgo.

yes i also had issues with work. i was always the go-to person at work, which i both resented and internally gushed over. i looked around my office and thought everyone else was lazy. it pised me off when people were taking 2 hour lunches and i was at my desk, swallowing my lunch whole at 3 o' clock.

i always took ownership in whichever company i worked for and it feels good. its that virgo high integrity right?

some advice:

1. never point out a fault of a co-worker; they will fail on thier own demerits.

2. don't socialize/fraternize with co-workers (as in go to dinners/cocktails)

3. keep to yourself; the more quiet the more powerful

4. don't ever go above your boss to complain

5. keep pettiness in check

6. the only competion should be in challenging yourself to do a better job than you did before

7. be concise. virgos (especially with strong libra) can get carried away with words/details. try to make your point in as few words as possible

It is supposed to achieve some balance in your work life.

My ex hubby is a Virgo and for years he worked himself to death - then he just started to take time for him. He would shut his office door indicating he was out to lunch and just have a slow lunch working on just relaxing. When he ran a lab he would set up all his tests, get them going and while they were processing he would have coffee and read the paper.

If you don't find that balance, then you only end up harming yourself- internally.

I am a Sag (as I said before) but I am one of those people that easily becomes a workaholic. I love to push myself and meet challenges, but not to compete with co-workers or make myself be the martyr by comparing work out-put. Lovely* is right, it will all come out in the wash, the slackers always find their way to lower positions - worrying about them or how they see you is futile.

Also, be careful NOT to work yourself into a frenzy. Take a moment, think about your plan and then go for it. I work with a wonderfully brilliant microbiologist, but I am sure she has very strong Virgo planets in her chart. She is the most nervous Aquarius I know of LOL..but she is a doll. The problem is that she gets extremely aggitated easily, which then soon escalates into a panic attack. All of this can be as simple as filling in an organizational chart, which will lead her to run around like a little red hen.

Internally, I worry too, but I know that I can only do what I can do in a 10 hour workday. Luckily, one of the traits inherent in most Saggies is the ability to do at least things at once -so that we can set things up, take a break and then have then finished before most people are still wroking on one. BUT...just give me ONE task and I am at a loss LOL...

In anycase, you will find your balance - just don't be that little red hen that vocalizes to her / his colleagues about how much he / she is doing, while missing lunch breaks (and making it obvious to everyone else) because it does create enemies and makes the person look petty.

If a person is really being overwhelmed, then they really need to bring that to the bosses attention and get things worked out. Trust me, I have been that person that took on the world, missed breaks, worked weekends...etc... If it is done in the spirit of "I LOVE what I am doing and it makes me happy" then more power to you, but if it is done in order to show how put upon you (and you meaning the "universal you") then that comes across as petty.

thats good advice, but it kind of highlights virgo issues/qualities that i've always had a problem with.

I've always felt being a virgo was a bit of a curse.. unlike other signs virgos are not known for their great "love lives" or for being these great "creative, deep, souls" ... we're just "good little workers" — well-behaved and, basically, invisible.
And I have a real problem with that.

But... unfortunately in my case I fear that it is true! I dont have a great love life (still waiting!), I'm quite creative, but am not confident enough to show it to others, or live by it, although I would love to. Plus I criticise myself so much its crippling. Its a wonder I can actually leave the house sometimes.

The only thing I have in my life is my career. I feel like I was born to be just a work-horse. And thats what I hate about being a virgo.

What if it's done in the spirit of "I am afraid to lose my job?"

moonshine, I could relate to where you said you've been slowing down because you can't be bothered anymore, I have started to do that! I'm just like ok I'm wasting my energy and burning myself out, time to slow my arse down. And you are so right about standards...once you set it, if you don't keep reaching it, you're a bad worker in the eyes of coworkers and/or boss.

A Weasel, yes! Definitely feel unappreciated at work sometimes. Ugh.

lovely* I think your advice was right on. And a lot of it, I need to take myself! (I have that strong Libra)

Ewww, missing lunch breaks! LOL

A Weasel, yeah, I work like that in the spirit of hoping I don't lose my job as well...freakin sucks.

I am teaching myself to slow down at the job I have now. I burnout really easily. I ask myself every day if the world is going to stop turning if I don't get ____ done, and if the answer is definitely no, then it can wait.

hi VirgoTaurusTaurus!

well ill start off by mentioning that my birthday is july18, but i have a stellium in virgo including true node and MC.

basically i have work issues! its a little different than what you virgo's mentioned though. i hate work but i love work, its strange. i find it next to impossible to deal with other people, its basically a tendency towards being sociopathic. when i started my last job (which i lasted 2 days) people would tell me what to do and i wasnt sure if they were my boss so i didnt know how to speak to them.

if my boss says, "hey do this" im like... COOL! but if a bartender girl that has worked there longer than me starts telling me what to do (possibly because i look nice and easy to manipulate) then i get confused.

basically its gotten to the point where i just tell people to "#**# OFF!" if they start those interpersonal power games and now i cant keep a job.

I really feel for all my fellow virgos, we really do have a huge burden a lot of the time. I often find myself wishing i could be more carefree like my other coworkers and not take everything so seriously. I do try to do the best job i can, but i have also come to realize that if i kill myself working like a dog they will expect me to be that way all the time, so i try to find some kind of balance.

This doesn't mean i don't have lots of days where i get totally frazzled because things aren't running as efficeintly as i would like. What is most important to me is keeping things running like a well oiled machine. When that happens i am very happy.

I still doubt myself alot and worry about my performance, funny though nobody else doubts me. It would be nice if other people could step into our skin for awhile and experience how difficult it is to be influenced by virgo.

I have to constantly tell myself it's ok if you make a mistake or if things get screwed up, the world won't come to stop!!

A Weasel, yes exactly what Pidaua said add: peace to balance.

quote:
BUT...just give me ONE task and I am at a loss LOL...

Pidaua, I totally agree. I think this is a mutable trait. In fact I get really lethargic if i have too few tasks and much more efficient when i'm stressed with several things to do in one day.

moonshine, just remember the "distant planet vulcan". -also, your astrological sign is not a tatoo. sometimes its best to get so sick of yourself that you change some aspect in your personality. for example: i was shy growing up. so when i was 15 i got a job in a clothing store where i had to face strangers all day long. i wasn;t conscious of this of course, but i was tired of feeling like a worm.

so moonshine, doesn't it feel good to express your self-doubt so honestly?

-"invisible". only the ego truly wants to be seen. relating is differernt than ego, it means we want to feel connected to something. we are naturally self-effacing, but isn't that a good thing?

-"good little workers".. speak for yourself my dear. there is nothing "little" about virgo *puffs up*. and when you say we don't have "great love lives" you may say that because virgos don't discuss thier sexual encounters with others. -at least i don't.

just some thoughts.

Hi lovely, when i said those things I'm talking of the impression i get from books Ive read about virgos... it just doesnt seem like such a great sign (from what I've read), thats all. The emphasis is always on work, or "duties" - never seems to be about anything exciting.

I am so not like that and i resent that that;s what I am (supposedly) all about, according to my sun sign. (Im not talking about the rest of my chart). There never seems to be a lot of talk about romance etc and unfortunately my life seems to have mirrored that (unconciously though, Im not doing it on purpose)

sorry vtt, for taking this thread off the subject....
