** All About Cancer
According to most Sun-sign guides, Cancer is famous for one thing: love of home and family. In fact, the Crab is often portrayed as being fond of nothing else, but that's an extremely nearsighted view. While it's true that those born under this sign have an innate loyalty toward their roots, especially toward the people and places that shape those memories, there's a lot more to them than just where they've come from. They're also concerned with where they're going and with making sure that it's safe to go there, for both themselves and the ones they love. So you can be sure that friends and family born under this sign will spare nothing to ensure that you're not exposed to danger on any level. They can even be a bit too protective at times, so much so that Cancers need to be careful of a tendency to enable -- basically, to care about someone so much that they'll help their loved ones escape from all dangers, including the danger of facing anything less than positive about themselves.
The one trait that's not usually mentioned under Cancer's list of qualities, however, is the one that may well be the most important: a craving for privacy. It's no coincidence that this sign is symbolized by a creature who's so fond of his alone time that he carries a shell on his back to retreat into at any time. Think of that the next time you decide to escape the harshness of the world.
When it comes to relationships, there's absolutely nothing the Crab won't do for a loved one -- absolutely nothing. In a romantic relationship, that can often mean that Cancer needs to be aware of the vulnerability that may accompany that generosity. So if you're one of these sensitive creatures, remember that relationships shouldn't be about 'needing' someone. They should be based on wanting someone -- on wanting to spend time with them more than you want to spend time with yourself. Keep that in mind, and all your relationships will be healthy, happy and productive.
Of course, since the Moon is Cancer's ruling planet, and the Moon is in charge of children, it's impossible to mention this sign without thinking of kids -- of all kinds. Cancers will find a way to nurture something, whether it's animals, plants, their own children or other people's kids, for this sign is famous for its kindness, understanding and knack for taking good care of anyone or anything that needs it. So if you know a Cancer, give 'em a big hug today. And if you are one, accept our humblest thanks and appreciation for being you!
** Your Starcast for June 20-July 21
Looks like the heavens will ensure that we all start the new season with an eye on the private sphere, although balancing that tendency with life's other obligations will offer plenty of food for thought. As Venus and Mercury continue their planetary flirtation, get ready to fall (or fall further) in love -- and get ready to want to talk about it too. And if that's not enough, this year the Sun's stay in Cancer features not one, but two full Moons! Keep reading for your preview of this emotional and extravagant month.
June 20/21: Sun into Cancer
Here's the start of a full month of focus on home, family and the private side of life. The Sun has left cerebral Gemini in a pile in the cosmic phone booth and emerged wearing tenderhearted Cancer. This nostalgic, wistful sign can't help but turn all our thoughts toward warm, affectionate moments with loved ones and turn all our attention toward making plans for more of the same. Be prepared to open up your home to family and old, dear friends, and to do some visiting yourself. You may also wake up one morning, take a look around and decide that it's time to redecorate, add on a room or even move. Do whatever it takes to make your outer world mirror the inner you.
June 21/22: Full Moon in Capricorn
That bright, beautiful silver orb in the night sky is more than just the inspiration behind hundreds of love songs and countless tender promises. In addition to inspiring romance, full Moons also ask us to make decisions. Your mission now is to find a happy medium between family and work. While that sounds like it might be easier said than done, you can pull it off with a bit of careful thought. What would it take to make your family feel cared for and to let the higher-ups at work know that you're doing the very best you can? Make up a battle plan -- on paper, if you need to -- and follow it religiously. Just don't forget your own needs. You can't be of any use to anyone if you're not happy and healthy.
This full Moon will most affect those born December 20-24, March 19-23, June 20-24 and September 21-25.
June 25-26: Mars opposite Jupiter, Venus conjunct Saturn, Mercury conjunct Saturn
Talkative Mercury and sociable Venus are due to connect with no-nonsense Saturn, who'll tamp down their energy in a very big way. Needless to say, we'll all be feeling a lot more serious than usual, and equally serious conversations about important subjects will be on the agenda. When those conversations come up, you'll need to be calm, discreet and emotionally collected. At the same time, however, an energetic Mars-Jupiter opposition will form, urging you to say and do everything in a very big, very dramatic way. So, do you hold your emotions in -- which will undoubtedly prove to be extremely frustrating -- or let them go and risk making a scene when you know you need to be composed? You won't know which path to take until the situation actually arises, and you'll need to trust your antennae.
June 27/28: Mercury into Leo, Venus into Leo
Mercury and Venus are the stuff that sweet words and loving thoughts are made of -- the astrological technology behind love songs, poetry and whispers of 'I love you.' This morning, they'll both enter lavish, dramatic Leo, the sign that just so happens to be famous for endowing charm and inspiring romance on a grand scale. Needless to say, it's prime time for falling in love. Of course, while love is grand, under these astrological circumstances it might be hard to tell love from infatuation -- and even harder to convince yourself that it's important to know the difference. It's okay. Either way, enjoy it. For now, at least. But don't reserve the chapel just yet.
July 1: Sun square Jupiter
Talk about extravagant -- and excessive! The Sun in tenderhearted Cancer will connect with Jupiter, the planet who's famous for blowing everything way out of proportion. Put the two together in a square, the aspect that just about guarantees inflated reactions, and it's easy to see how the pride we take in our family and friends could cause us to react a lot more emotionally now than we ordinarily would. If you find yourself in the position of defending someone you love, and you're a bit more passionate about it than even you know you should be, try to step back and take a breath. You won't be able to do anyone any good if you can't keep a clear head.
July 6: New Moon in Cancer
It's time for a new Moon -- and with it, the chance for a whole new beginning. This time out, the Sun and Moon will connect in gentle, emotional Cancer, giving you the chance to welcome someone new into your circle of loved ones. You may be committing yourself to your relationship in a new way, or perhaps you know someone who's making big life plans or getting ready to welcome a child. One way or another, your home or family will expand in nothing but the most wonderful of ways -- and your heart will too!
This new Moon will most affect Cancers born July 4-8, Libras born October 6-10, Capricorns born January 3-7 and Aries born April 2-6.
July 9: Mercury conjunct Venus
For the past three weeks, active, chatty Mercury and loving Venus have been carrying on an extremely flirtatious relationship -- and it's going to keep on going for at least the next week. They've already danced their way through emotional Cancer, which inspired us all to say exactly what was on our minds and in our hearts. At the moment, though, the two are in lavish, luxury-loving Leo. And this morning, they'll finally stop all that flirting and officially get together in a conjunction, the strongest astrological aspect there is. Even if you've managed to resist saying what's on your mind up until now, this meeting of heavenly minds will make it next to impossible to fight the urge -- so why try? Get it out. Tell the ones you love exactly how much you care. You can bet you'll hear something equally lovely in return.
July 12: Sun square Mars
The Sun and Mars are the two fieriest planets in the heavens. The Sun, of course, is our own personal fireball, and Mars -- well, let's just say that the Red Planet can hold his own. The two will meet up in a square today, the aspect that's equivalent to an argument -- so to say that there are fireworks on the agenda is quite an understatement. If you've been at odds with someone, expect things to come to a head. If you don't want that to happen, better make yourself scarce. Of course, all that fire also means that there will be a lot of energy circulating. So if you really need to get something done, cancel your appointments and tackle it now. You'll be amazed at how quickly you'll be able to finish it up.
July 16: Saturn into Leo
Tick, tick, tick. Can you hear the cosmic clock? Saturn, the celestial lord of time, enters Leo today for a two-and-a-half-year sojourn in this fixed sign. The Ringed Planet is just leaving Cancer, where his presence made patriotism, homeland security, family and education major topics in the news. Now we can expect more emphasis on the individual, and on working hard to meet our responsibilities. Since both Saturn and Leo relate to leadership and authority figures, we will each have an opportunity to develop our 'inner parent.' Improvement will also be our constant companion, and creative energy will take center stage. So get out that paintbrush or writer's tablet and pour out any pent-up ideas that have been floating around in your head all these years. Now's the time to make them work for you!
July 16: Venus trine Pluto
Lovely lady Venus, ruler of comfort, romance and all things pleasant, is currently making her way through lavish, dramatic Leo. This puts the goddess of love in the mood to inspire quite a show of our emotions -- especially the romantic kind. Ordinarily, at least. Venus will connect with Pluto today, however, a planet that's a big fan of keeping private things private. So if someone decides they'd like to share some excessively personal details with you, you won't want to hear them -- and you won't stand for it. What you will stand for (and what you're really going to be in the mood for) is showing your feelings to a loved one in lavish fashion, but under extremely private circumstances. Choose a quiet corner table so you won't need to speak above a whisper.
July 17: Venus trine Mars
If you're attached, you can certainly expect an instant replay of yesterday's intimacy, which means it's going to be an extremely enjoyable evening. Dinner out would be a terrific place to start, but if you need some quality time alone -- and you most likely will -- plan on ending the evening all snuggled up on the couch with your favorite romantic movie in the DVD player. If you're single and still searching for your soul mate, don't you dare stay home. You can clean the house tomorrow. Get yourself dressed in your finest, grab a friend and go wherever your kindred spirits gather. Love at first sight isn't just a dream. It happens all the time, but you must be present to win.
July 21: Full Moon in Capricorn
Today's astrological menu will present a highly unusual 'special.' Ordinarily, the heavens provide us with one full Moon during each of the Sun's stops through the zodiac. This year, however, we've been given two full Moons with the Sun in Cancer. The first was on June 21/22, and the second will occur today. Now, since there's no such thing as an accident, the universe is obviously trying to make a point. And considering the favorite lessons of Cancer and Capricorn, it looks like we're being asked to concentrate on balancing our inner and outer selves. Like last time, circumstances may arise that seem to force us to choose between our emotional lives and our professional goals. The good news is that we've already had a trial run, so this time out we'll be better able to come to a final decision -- one that all parties can learn to live with. Just don't rush yourself.
This full Moon will most affect Cancers born July 19-22, Libras born October 19-22, Capricorns born January 17-20 and Aries born April 17-20.
Enjoy the Sun's transit of Cancer!
