stephen arroyo has some great books out there; one is on basic chart interpretation and he goes into a bit of detail on chart rulers.

he stresses that it's better to use traditional rulers in the case of an aquarius (traditional ruler - saturn), pisces (traditional ruler - jupiter), or scorpio (traditional ruler - mars) ascendant. that said, SA says to consider: the planet that is the chart ruler, the sign it is in (it will be very evident in the individual's personality), the house it is in (it will define the area of life most affected by the range of reactions we have to the environment and add a subtle subtone to the AC), and the aspects the chart ruler makes to other planets.

for instance, i have libra rising. this makes my chart ruler venus and my venus is in aquarius. though i am a pisces sun, aquarius is very prominent in my personality, in the way i express myself. the ascendant is the psychological organization of the person, the mask of habitual reactions that stand between the outside environment and the internal and subjective private world of a person. so my venus in aquarius is integral to my psychological mask, so to speak.

my venus happens to be in the 5th house, and so basically my mask, my reactions, are centered around 5th house affairs. this gives me a slight leo subtone to my ascendant.

and finally, one aspect my venus makes is an exact square to saturn. this doesn't really bode well for my love life, that's for sure, i'm always making sure i'm unhappy in love and i take forever to open up and give love freely, which kind of goes against my pisces sun. but it's still there, that venus-saturn square, and it is very important to my personality and the way i react to things.

i would say that the sign gemini is part of the way you present yourself to the world. you're a sag rising, yes, but gemini comes across in the way you express yourself, too. you're chatty, you enjoy short trips to refresh yourself, you are original and creative. you identify yourself with your ideas.

with your chart ruler jupiter being in the 6th you have an active interest in service work, and in being efficient. you like the idea of doing something practical in order to contribute to the social order. you have an interest in healing, and you will also probably be well-liked at work. you're very conscientious about the work you do.

My chart ruler is Saturn (Cap rising). Saturn is in the 9th house in Libra (conjunct Sun & Jupiter) squaring my ascendant & descendant.

Any ideas? Anyone else have something like this?

i have libra rising,

ruler is Venus,

Venus is in the 7th and Aries,

do i come across as an aries? maybe thats why some people take an instant liking to me and others hate me, i am perhaps too expressive and strong willed? am i a too-agressive female? i have a ninth house gemini stellium and a couple of planets in the second house in scorp (main influences in chart are scorp and gemini, and 2nd and 9th houses, which are the opposities of scorp and gemini--taurus and sag!). also libra rising and Venus being in 7th elevates Venus importance?

I have pluto in the 1st which would boost the importance of that scorpio influence,

and Venus opposing pluto,

recently ive had a lot of pressure regarding getting married, and being obedient with authority and the like, ive heard from several people that they think that i am obnoxious and ive never heard that before, jsut hearing it from my family,

especially my leo mom

ive gotten rude and bitter more than once with her, just ruining the relationship and perceptions more, but will have to work on that later, right now im too busy tryin ot find a way to get out of the marriage pressures,

i have quite a few suitors and am in a relationship but want to take my time,

any idea of how this will play out?

first off let me say that yes, it's quite likely that at times you'll come across as an aries. my sister has a very similar configuration. she's a libra rising like you (and me), and her venus is in aries and it is in the 7th house. on top of this, she has pluto in the 1st house as well (pluto is actually right on top of her ascendant), though it is not opposite her venus.

you will probably be more energetic and outgoing in a fire sign way than your typical libra AC.

also, it's been my experience that planets in the 7th often describe what type of partner you will seek out and most need, possibly more so than the sign on the 7th cusp. for instance, i have mercury conjunct the DC and i always look for bright, mental partners and am very attracted to virgos and geminis, virgos especially because they're earth signs so that's compatible with my pisces sun and capricorn mars.

i would say with a 7th house venus you'd be prone to looking for good-looking partners, ones who are refined and classy, like a libra. you will look for a partner who is more like you - like a libra. you might have unrealistic expectations when it comes to romance, i know my sister does. also you have a strong need to partner off, because libras like social exchange.

your chart ruler is important in your chart, yes. your chart ruler is especially integral to your personality because it is in an angular house, the 7th. since it's in the 7th, it is very wrapped up in what you want from a partner.

with a venus opposite pluto (i have a similar aspect, i have venus contra-// pluto so i can relate) i would say that your relationships can get obsessive, when you let them that is. it doesn't happen very often for you. when venus is involved in a hard aspect with another planet, it can create problems with relationships, but it can also create incredible growth opportunites, too.

i get the feeling with venus in the 7th opposed pluto in the 1st you will have to work at balancing the pluto side of your personality (secretive, mysterious, dominant, powerful) with the social needs of your 7th house venus. in other words, your basic personality has a very scorpionic tone to it with pluto in the 1st, but your partnership needs are more like your libra AC.

a 7th house venus is said to indicate a happy marriage, by the way. like i said, though, i get the impression you'll have to work at it (don't we all), due to that venus-pluto opposition.

the major issues i see with your AC in libra, pluto in the 1st in libra is that your personality will be geared toward taking that pluto in the 1st down, you will want to gloss over that dominant (scorpio) part of yourself. you won't really want to show it, or you'll want it in a pretty package. that is what will be at odds with your venus in the 7th in aries, which is an assertive, powerful placement. you'll want an active partner who can take a stand for his/her beliefs and actions (and you will be attracted to people who exhibit the qualities of an aries - would you say that's true? do you find fire signs appealing, espcially aries?), but also one who is a lot like a libra, classy & refined. i sense the need for a libra-like partner will dominate, the aries part will be secondary. this creates kind of a tension in you though, a subtle one that probably dominates your relationships. you would probably do well with someone that has more of the libra qualities, with maybe like a fire moon or something.

i'm sure this is a very crucial aspect formation in your natal chart.

does your venus make any easy aspects? that would help, would make it less of a struggle for you. relationships are going to be very important to your life and your growth process, but you WILL need the space and time to develop them, just like a scorpio. acknowledge that scorpio part of you, and im sure that will help and make things easier.

I actually think you come accross more Libran..your asc maybe.. I don't know, I wouldn't think Aries.
