Hi everyone,

I hope you all do not find me annoying, asking all these astrology questions. I knew a Gemini once and she had mercury in cancer and everything was so precise, every infor was put in a calendar, birthday data etc., had a fabulous memory, could retain info brilliantly. Just wondering are mercury in cancer traits like that in everyon's chart. I have a mercury in pisces but would not be as good as that. Thanks again everyone.

My Cancer influences certainly DO assist with my indelible memory....

Cancer in Mercury gives me great memory as I attach emotions to each and every item nearly. I am precise about many details....although that part seems more influenced from Virgo placements...Virgo Uranus and Pluto in 10th for me.

Birthdays in particular, I NEVER/RARELY forget....and often do NOT write them down as a challenge to myself to remember (brain exercise of a sort---still am a Gem Sun!!)....In fact, I remember Birthdays of best friends from way back in elementary school...way over 30 years ago...isn't that bizarre?

Gem Star,

Reply was excellent, you sound just like the Gem I spoke about, it is amazing. Do you find also, that with mercury in cancer, that you can pick up on the moods/vibes of people in a room and whether you are relaxed in their company or not.

Hot-Ice,

Thank you for replying, it is great to hear the different feedback on mercury on cancer. As regards Birthdays, I sometimes forget with my mercury in pisces. I am a bit scattered sometimes.

My guy has Cancer Mercury and yes he's memory is very good, but like every other Can Mercury, he's prone to have his memories too colored by the emotions his memory associates with them. For Cancer Mercury, the intense emoitonal association helps memory, but that doesn't mean the memory is accurate or precise. The person, however, often thinks it is because *they* feel it is (I've had several agruments with Cancer mercs along this line - I have Gem mercury and a photographic memeory, and so I remember things by concepts and ideas, not by emotion). This seems worse if their Cancer Mercury is retro.

Another thing with Cancer Merc is difficulty being direct in communication. You can discuss soemthign with them for hours and never really know what they're thinking about it. Cancer is naturally passive-aggressive - it's priority is self-protection, even if that means self-concealment. Cancer also prefers understanding through intuition and expression through emotion. This can mean they can unbeleivably vague in what they say. Cancer Mercs aren't fond of thinking in ideas or concepts, so their prone to waffle big time if forced to make more rational, non-emotive choices or if they are pushed to say soemthing they *feel* is harsh or blunt (like the truth, for example).

I've found Cancer Merc sometimes *sound* rational (a ploy not unlike a crab waving his claws at you to tell you to stand back)but if you challenge their reasoning, they retreat quickly or make passive-aggressive attacks in self-defense. The two MAIN Cancer self-defense tactics are 1) being dismissive and 2) being sarcastic (both trtaits Cacner shares with its polarity Capricorn). These traits are far worse (it seems) if the Cancer Merc has a lot of air in their chart, or has strong Mercurial influence otherwise. My guy has Gem Mars/MC and Virgo Venus/ASC and d*** he can be one sarcastic SOB. He's also very dismissive of anything he doesn't imediately agree with - at least he's aware of that and is trying to work of that.

One rather admirable trait - at least for me - that stems paradoxically from Cancer Merc's inablity to be direct, is these people often have a great, if not quirky, sense of humor. Just be watchful - they often reosrt to humor as a indirect way of expressing how they really think without risking being offensive. Some Cancer Mercs can border on being vicious and mean int heir humor if they have a lot of repressed anger.

ANd lastly, because Cancer Mercs prefer to understand through intuition, these people do have a great knack for feeling people out. It helps them cope with Mercury in Cancer's shortcomings (often helping smooth out the rifts caused by their sarcastic/dismissive self-defensive tendencies). This is na immensely sympathetic placement, and may be a little psychic in some people. Of course, in very insecure Cancer Mercs this becomes another self-defense - they think they *always* know about other people, not realizing, like with any Cancer placement, what they sense is always colored by their own mood and emotions. In other words, it's often OK to take their judgement, even if seemingly accurate at first, with a grain of salt.

My guy's Cancer Merc tightly trines my Pisces moon - he can often sense what I'm about to do or say before I do. But since I can practically read his mind, and tell him when he's being less than objective about things, we're on a level playing field. LOL.

Gemini-Nymph,

The information you gave me is brilliant. The person I knew with a mercury in cancer was ever so nice to me and then for no apparent reason, turned vicious on me and laughed at me. I could not believe it. Her memory was spot on with dates etc. She was like two people. I am so pleased with said information, it is as if you could describe this person that I knew so well. Gemini Nymph, thank you so much. Also, I ordered the book on Astrology by Kevin Burk through Amazon and cannot wait to receive same.

Hi AriesPink...

You asked me about picking up on the vibes of a room....Yes, it is quite easy for me to sense the vibes, but I attribute it to my Scorp Asc mostly...My Scorp Neptune conjunct my ASC in the 1st house also inclines me toward 'sensing' vibes....though my Gem air placements do not seem to distract this special gift.

I have never thought of Mercury in Cancer as intuitive...however, I believe that all water signs are intutitive to a degree...just depends on how much water is in someone's chart maybe...also depends on the awareness level of the person...

Ex. When walking into a room, are you first aware of the people and underlying rhythms or are you self-centered and do not notice anything or anyone until approached??!!

I could not function without this sense and for many years never knew that not everyone can sense things so clearly and easily...surely Mercury in Cancer adds to the mix!

GemStar

Anyone else out there have a Cancer Mercury??

My mother is a gemini with mercury in cancer. She has a virgo moon and virgo rising.

I don't see the mercury in cancer anywhere in her personality.

Gemini sun, Cancer rising, mercury in Gemini, moon in Taurus, venus in Taurus, mars in Libra

i have merc in cancer and to be honest, sometimes it is very hard for me to communicate with ppl and try to get them to understand my point of view...you're very right, gemini nymph - when someone (anyone, even my best friends or loves ones) tries to force me into making a more sensible explanation of something that i can just *feel*, i just don't say anything and act like i am very detached about the issue right then and there. Ive had my friends tell me "******* girl, stop being so sarcastic". Sometimes I don't even have any intention of hurting ppl or being mean, my sarcasm just comes automatically. I easily get vibes anywhere I go and I am also usually right on target, unless I was in a bad mood...then everything turns inside out and everything seems "not right" to me. So yes, Its very hard to have a cancer merc, it's hard to live with it.

YEAH , very true , especilly the last part .
i dont if its the cancer's narcissim that plays a part here but they are often taken to be exactly opposite of what they are thinking or talking about .
i feel the way out is , keep communicating .
u might be labeled with alot of names in between but ultimately u need to prove your correctness. dont' u?

Thanks, Gem Star, Mystic Gemini, Seveneightorange and cancerg for your replies. You are all so good and kind. I could see so much of said person in the way you each described mercury in cancer.

My mother is a very critical person.

I have Mercury in Cancer and I totally totally agree whith GemStar: "Cancer in Mercury gives me great memory as I attach emotions to each and every item nearly. I am precise about many details....although that part seems more influenced from Virgo placements..." I also have planets in Virgo ( Moon, Venus, Pluto, Uranus)...

And also exactly the same is happened about birthdays of people I know! I was reading and I feel like you talking about me! I remember birthdays of people I am not keeping in touch for years and anyway they wasn't very important ppl in my life, just simple acquaintances, or the same like you said from way back in elementary school...way over 25-30 years ago!

Also like seveneieghtorange said it is very hard for me as well to communicate with people and try to get them to understand my point of view...I have moments when I am feeling that ppl can't understand me and I'd rather just don't say anything and act like i am very detached about the issue right then and there. Very true!!! And if I am not very comfortable with ppl around me or don't know them well enough I am mostly a quiet person.
