For learning disablilities in general:

look at aspects to Mercury and planets that are in Gemini/Virgo or 3rd/6th houses.

exp: my three ADD people in my life.

Son 1: Gemini Mars, quinqunx Neptune/Uranus conjunction in the 3rd. Mercury combust and quinqunx to Saturn. square Jupiter.

Son 2. Mars/Venus conjunction in Gemini (which is intercepted in the 12th) Mercury in the 1st opp Jupiter, square Saturn.

Hubby: Mars in Gemini in the 3rd opp Sun. Mercury earth singleton conjunct MC and squared Jupiter and Pluto.

wow... Mercury square Jupiter and Gemini Mars seems to be a theme here.

anyways, I've got a slight touch of dyslexia... mine is more verbal than written. I've got Mercury square Saturn (trouble organizing thoughts) and opp Uranus. My Mercury is in Taurus, so that seems to have a grounding effect to it.

Yes Mercury is key here with anything neurological, and this extends to also both Mercurial signs, gemini and Virgo, and the 3rd house. However, there's still a lot of debate over what kind of aspects involving Mercury could indicate neurological conditions. Some astrologers are working asteriods, too, while others are investigating harmonic charts.

Uranus seems to figure into neurological conditions too, espically "high functioning" ones (ones that don't really disable a person fromliving a fulfillinh life, like Asperger's Syndrome or dyslexia). Uranus, among its many qualities, influences higher brain functioning the rational-intuitive sphere and has a knack for problem-solving and path-finding outside the norm, and when combined with Mercury, this Uranian traits may apply to the neurons.

I have Asperger's Syndrome, with Executive Function Disorder and Non-Verbal Learning Disorder. Between my EFD and NVLD I have some very dyslexic-like symptoms. I also have synasthesia and eidetic memory. For me, it's pretty obvious that it's predominantly Mercurial-Uranian.

How any asteriods fit into this isn't particularly clear since those two themes are so very dominant, but given I have several asteriods conjunct to both Mercury and Uranus there seems to be something to that. I have:

Mercury conjunct Ceres, Vulcan, Anubis (this one seems to be a biggie) and Kronos (also possibly a biggie).

Uranus conjunct Lilith, Apollon, and Iris, and oppsed Chiron, Pallas, Merlin and Isis.

And there may be more I haven't found yet. So as you can see, trying to pinpoint one particular aseriod is a bit tricky.

Also I have a T-square that is heavily merucrial and a air grand trine that's heavily Uranian. I suspect that figures into this too. Mercury conjunct Sun and MC in Gem is part fo both (along iwth all those asteriods), while Uranus and Mercury/Sun (and all those asteriods conbined take part int he Grand trine, along iwth Mars, NN, and Vertex in Aqua. technically speaking, with CHiron this Grand Trine is a Kite (and could *further* included those other asteriods opposing Uranus - your head spinning yet?).

More specific, isolated aspects (aside from asteriods) that I think are very influenctial on my neuroloigical makeup:

- Mercury conjunct Sun
- Mercury conjunct MC
- Venus in Gem conjucnt Saturn in the 9th and opposed Neptune singleton and Jupiter in the 3rd.
- Mercury Trine Mars and NN in Aqua
- Merucry Trine Uranus singleton
- Gem Mercury squared Virgo Pluto
- Mercury sextiled Chiron (prehaps suggests a type of wound?)

lol... yup, you've got a couple of the astro signatures that we were talking about.

Virgo rising puts importance on Mercury.

Mercury in the 6th square Uranus in the 3rd and quinqunx to Saturn in the 1st. Mercury is also the ruler of your Saturn and your 12th house Mars and 12th house Jupiter.

In all honesty, I think that it is the Mercury/Saturn quinqunx that is causing your problems and making them so apparent to you. But things could be a lot more difficult and with a little work, I don't think that this is anything that should hold you back.

On the good side: that Mercury/Uranus square takes place in the two houses that Mercury rules, Uranus is exhaulted in Scorpio and Mercury is in Uranus's home sign. This brings a bit more tension to the aspect because it strengths both positions, but it also makes them sympathetic to each other.

Along with that, you've got that heavy Virgo placement. They are all sympathetic to your Mercury's troubles even if they are at odds with it. (let's not forget that Saturn is the ancient ruler of Aquarius)

Bee Buddy: Combust is when a planet is within 8 degrees of the Sun. It's mostly applied to Mercury and Venus since they are the inner planets.

As for it's significence in a reading:

When Mercury is combust, it has a tendicy of going into 'super' mode. Because it is a neutral planet, it absorbs the radience of the Sun. It makes it difficult for the native to focus on one thought and keep their brain in order.

I always read my mars as being a touch of first house as its on my ascendant.

Cheers tho for that...

My dyslexia affects short term memory and processing speed... im best left working alone and methodically... better at slow detailed work. My brain goes too fast for my hands it seems ( that seems like an Aqua Virgo conundrum hahahah... Lightning versus the earthy methodical methodology of the virgo bits.)

That and my handwriting sucks.

Not slotting into the educational system isn't the failing of the individual.

~~~~~>My son has Sun in Virgo in the 3rd, also Mercury in Virgo in the 4th, etc.
I sat through his I.Q test ~ what a waste of time. If, like him, you can't speak (side effect of surgery), it is an exercise in pointlessness. But then I am inclined to think this kind of test is a bit pointless anyway (if you need a number to tell you how clever you are, you got a problem, just my view!).
~~~~~~~> my mother has Sun 2* from Mercury, 4* from Pluto.

Valkie says trouble concentrating. Sounds like her {trouble working on a system of logic, as well}. No education and if she had been given a chance (she wasn't) I doubt she would set the sky alight. But you can't pull the wool, so don't even try.

I have Dyslexia,Dyspraxia,ADD.
I have a history of mainly Auditory,Phonological Dyslexia that also involved speech problems. It also affects my directional,organization,and short term memory abilities. Dyspraxia also shares those issues. I had auditory therapy,speech therapy,and phonics to remediate my Dyslexia in special education.

I do have Moon in Pisces in 6th square the opposition of Pallas in Gemini Retrograde in 9th,Saturn in Gemini Retrograde in 9th and Neptune in Sagittarius in 3rd.

My indicatoars are Moon in Pisces in 6th square the opposition of retrograde Saturn in Gemini in 9th and Neptune in Sagittarius in 3rd.
Saturn contraparallel Mercury-Neptune is also indicator of my Dyslexia,Dyspraxia,ADD.

I would look at aspects involving not only Mercury but also Moon. Some astrologers believe Moon has to do with the brain.

Also.....I would look at aspects involving Neptune. Neptune rules misdiagnoses,and many Dyslexics are misunderstood and even misdiagnosed that end up on medication which also ruled by Neptune. Dyslexics often have other neurodivergent conditions like ADD,ADHD,Dyspraxia,Dyscalculia,and even Aspergers Syndrome. Too many people think Dyslexia is see words backwards when most Dyslexics have auditory,phonological processing problems. Some think Irlen Syndrome is Dyslexia,but that's not necessarily Dyslexia. Many Dyslexics don't have those issues. Many Dyslexics have sensory integration issues too,and so many can be ultrasensitive and that can fit with Neptune.

I would also look at aspects involving Saturn in regards to delays....late speech is one of the early warning signs of Dyslexia. Some say Saturn rules the ears,and many Dyslexics have problems with auditory,phonological processing.

In Gift of Dyslexia,Ronald D. Davis says that Dyslexia is connected to confusion/disorientation.

Dr. Harold N. Levinson believes that Dyslexic Syndrome is linked to cerebellar vestibular dysfunction.

We dyslexics are mainly picture thinkers with strong visualization abilities,lateral thinking,vivid imaginations,and intuition.

The main thing about Dyslexia is it's difficulty with words. Dys = difficulty. Lexia = Words. Dyslexia can affect both receptive and expressive language processing as well as both written and oral language processing. My Dyslexia affects every one of those areas. You can read about that in International Dyslexia Association site.

I knew a Dyslexic with ADD that had no hard aspects to Mercury,and so Dyslexics don't necessarily have hard aspects to Mercury. She had Stationary Neptune in Scorpio in 1st as the apex of a t-square with Moon-Mars conjunction in Leo and Sun-Saturn conjunction in Aquarius.

A few years back there was a news item about a school here in England that was running a project teaching dyslexic children Japanese.

In trying to find out about this I found this interesting snippet on Science Direct:

"......We report the case of AS, a 16 year-old English/Japanese bilingual boy, whose reading/writing difficulties are confined to English only. AS was born in Japan to a highly literate Australian father and English mother, and goes to a Japanese selective senior high school in Japan. His spoken language at home is English. AS's reading in logographic Japanese Kanji and syllabic Kana is equivalent to that of Japanese undergraduates or graduates. In contrast, his performance in various reading and writing tests in English as well as tasks involving phonological processing was very poor, even when compared to his Japanese contemporaries........."

A case study of an English-Japanese bilingual with monolingual dyslexia by
Taeko Nakayama Wydella and Brian Butterworth

In essence I am tending to agree with Glaucus that this whole subject area is more complex than can be shown by one indicator such as Mercury blocked by Saturn, etc.
