Hi everyone!!! I know I've heard that as we get older we either become more like our Rising sign or Sun Sign. I just can't remember which one it is. I'm a Sag with a Taurus rising- I'd love to know which one it is. So if anybody knows about this topic pleas fill me in.
Thanks
Jupiter

Jupiter,

In my opinion, as we get older we grow more and more into our CHART. We become all the potentials we saw in it when we first started learning astrology, and we can see our energy channeled more and more effectively every year!

Growing into charts,

Tim

Neither Ascendant nor sun, I'd say. The Ascendant is what we pretend to be, so to speak, and when people get to know us they learn to see beyond it - but each new acquaintance has to start from scratch, no matter how old we get. The sun is what we are "at rest", and that, too, stays pretty much the same through the years.

One theory in astrology is that we progress through the planets, so that each planet shows what is sort of dominant in one's life at that period. Each period is about seven years, but far from exactly.

The first period is that of the moon, between birth an 7 years of age, a time of mainly emotional awareness and growth. Then comes the age of Mercury, between 7 and 14, where language and communication dominates. Then the age of Venus, 14-21, the time of puberty. The first period of adulthood is that of the sun, 21-28 years, where we need to establish an idea of who we are. Then comes Mars (carreer), Jupiter (success), Saturn (authority), Uranus (conclusion), Neptune (memories) and Pluto (transition).

I find that the above is a valuable help in interpreting a horoscope, especially in seeing what parts of a person's life are at focus in different periods of that person's life.

Of course, you also need to look at the transits - especially those of the outer, slow planets.

As we grow older we project more of our Sun sign qualities, than our Ascendant.

Remember that the ascendant is how we project ourselfs onto the world stage. It serves as a defensive mechanism untill we are mature and secure enough to show the world who we really are, i.e. out Sun Sign.

True, the Ascendant is our "front" to the world. Still, I am not sure that we ever get confident enough to do away with it.

I would say that we keep presenting an image of ourselves, no matter how old we get. I am not even sure that something else would be to prefer. How we present ourselves is part of our life achievement, the piece of art that is our life.

Keep in mind that we will always present ourselves to the world, how real that presentation is depends upon the degree that we feel safe to show our true sun self.

well, maybe you outgrow your Rising sign, but what if you have planets in your 1st house or on the Ascendant? wouldn't that affect things? For instance, I am a Scorpio Rising with Pluto exactly conjunct my ASC, so I think my Rising Sign is more than just a 'mask' that I will outgrow. An astrologer mentioned that a planet on the Ascendant colors the entire chart, maybe it was Jeff Green? I don't know, but I think if you have a planet in the 1st or on the Ascendant, that will ALWAYS be a big part of your personality.

I will have to agree that it's the whole chart that we grow into. I sort of visualize all the aspects as threads wrapped around a wheel, pulling, getting longer and shorter, pulling and pushing us in different directions and for different lessons in life.

I also think about the North Node, which is about karma and progressing. While it wouldn't rule a personality, it does enhance our life path. We are constantly reincarnating, day to day.

I don't buy the 'pretend' theory myself. I'm a Capricorn, and my Gemini ascendant absolutely affects my overall personality.

Wilson's theory makes a lot of sense. The longer you study astrology the more connections are made that help you integrate your chart into whatever vision you create for yourself.

Welcome Stenudd from Sweden

AG I think we just got the wording wrong here, instead of pretend lets use the word vaneer. Because this is the face you show the world and it doesn't have to be anywhere close to your true nature.

If you have a hard aspect between your natal Asc and the Sun or Moon in your chart, the person you project will be at odds with the person that you are or your true emotional nature.

The more I study astrology...the more I'm convinced that it is truly the combination of your Sun, Moon & Rising that makes you who you are. In fact I think that the ASC even holds a bit more weight than Sun & Moon at times simply because it is the clear & visable trait. My Gemini rising completely colors my Aries sun & Aqua Moon.....so much so even though I have Mercury, Venus & Saturn in Aries as well.

Gemini isn't a hard aspect to Capricorn or Virgo (nearly Libra) is it? I do think it's a strange combination to put together, though.

I don't think my Ascendant necessarily makes up my mind or anything (perhaps it prevents it from being made up as a matter of fact), but I don't see it's influence going away.

Personally, I don't think the Asc is just the face you show the world, but that’s a very common theory. I do think, it's part of who you are with everyone around you. Even ppl who know you well see your ascendant.. everything you say/do gets filtered through your Asc IMO. My Asc is 29 Gem/ Cancer cusp.. both Gem and Cancer - the whole changeability, constant change of mood, over sensitivity - are a big part of my personality. It isn't just a face for me.. It's definitely part of who I am. People who know me well would see my Sun (Aries) more so.. They'd *know* that part of me.. but if asked to describe me the first thing they'd say is still.. "she's too sensitive and maybe a bit too cutesy/girly".. no way they’d say "she's very assertive" (Aries).. But if asked to talk about me at length.. they’d eventually get to the Aries-ness I guess.. I’d hope lol

And about the thread question.. I think the Sun predominates when you are young. It definitely did with me. I was very very aries-like when I was little. I agree with Tim.. I also think, as you grow older certain things happen to make you grow into your Asc/Moon and other aspects. For instance, when you read about certain aspects like sun square moon.. and the interpretation says “your parents are very different people and probably went their different ways while you were young” .. That event had to take place at some point, for you to start experiencing the energy of the sun/moon square.. So maybe, until you were say 7.. you weren’t as aware of that aspect. At 7 one of your parents could’ve moved out and so you started feeling the separation/drift more so.. and the sun/moon square kinda began to evolve in your life.. I noticed this with some of my Chiron aspects also.. like Chiron opp Saturn and square Jupiter.. talks about insecurity and not having enough faith in yourself.. If I had read this a few years ago, I’d say.. me? No way lol.. but now things have changed, and I’ve had certain experiences that have made me feel that way (at least on occasion) so now I see it..

It’s pretty interesting. It’s almost as if your chart hasn’t happened yet when you were born, so you’re not necessarily *born* with those traits.. but they pretty much evolve as you go through different life experiences.

Lauren,

I completely agree with your statement....I was very Aries Like (Sun) when I was younger and grew more into the Gemini rising and yes my friends would always describe the Gemini traits before the Aries ones.
On more thing...Why the heck aren't you on the Aries Association thread???? Get on board Girl...those steady Capricorns are slowly climbing up ahead of us!!!!!

I agree. I think your personality is a combination of the Sun, Moon and ASC. I don't think your rising sign ever really 'fades away' or is 'outgrown' as some people suggested. It will always be there, no matter what. but, maybe its a bit moreso for me, with the scorpio rising/pluto thing. some people say that a scorpio rising can overwhelm alot of your chart.
