Saturn in the Twelfth House: suppresses depression. Of course everyone gets depressed now and then. But when someone with this placement gets depressed, the trap door to the subconscious swings open and all the old depression comes out. This can be temporarily immobilizing, the "I just can’t get out of bed today" syndrome. Folks with Saturn in the twelfth house are usually very reliable. Everybody else depends on them and leans on them as well. They have to find someone to lean on as well.

I've just realized that Angelina Jolie has got Saturn in 12th house, but she's got fame, fortune and Brad Pitt as well, so if that's bad karma, I want some of that, please!

Careful what you wish for.

The only planet that makes any sense in the 12th is Neptune. Personally I'd give anything to get rid of my 12th house planets...

Hi, new here..

I have Saturn in Cancer in the 12th and it is part of my Yod.

Having Saturn in the 12th has been somewhat
of a blessing and curse.

I try to use this energy the best I can

One can say that with any 12th house placement. But if you recieve your 12th house placements it is a blessing more then a curse. I have my moon and Venus in the 12th house and I embrace it, it has taught me to grow in many many ways...

Yes! Thanks for reminding me! I did hear that planets in 12th can give you some sort of protection. So, 12th is not that bad after all!

Hello to everyone...this is my first time here!

WildRose, although I don't have Saturn in the 12th house, I do have Venus there...It feels like many times that this placement has given me a hard time, especially in the area of relationships! But I am starting to see a more positive side to this placement that I didn't before...Of course, for myself, I would say that this is easier said than done and I feel that this is the beginning of a big journey for me with regards to coming to terms with this placement and, as Mama Mia pointed out, receiving the placement...

If you are interested, there is a book that I am currently reading right now that truly might be helpful. It's called "Your Secret Self: Illuminating the Mysteries of the Twelfth House" and it is by Tracy Marks. It is out of print, however, but you can try to buy a copy online through a website like Half.com or amazon or if you have astrology bookstores nearby where you live or if you know of any, see if they might have this book...that is how I was able to find a copy of it--through a series of bookstores!

Also, there are two very interesting articles that you could read on the 12th house:
http://www.innerself.com/Astrology/12th_house.htm
http://www.elbertwade.com/page48.html

They and Tracy Marks' book try to show a more positive and holistic view of the 12th house, rather than, as most astrologers do, resign it to being called a "garbage bin" or merely the "self-undoing" house.

ughh..I have this and the worse part about it is that it's the ruler of my chart. I would love to get rid of this one. I can totally relate to the interpretation above.
***come to think of it, I did a little research and it seems that wherever saturn is in my chart (transiting or natal) he is brutal to me in that area. I seem to get it ten times worse than everyone else.

Thanks,LeapofFaith,quite useful indeed!
MoonDuchess, sorry to hear that, I know exactly how you feel, but if nothing else, @ least it's easier when you know you're not the only one who has that same problem...I heard - among other things, that Saturn in 12th gives hard times with exam questions, and I sure felt that on my own skin...But the biggest problem with this placement (from my experience) are my own fears - it's like I'm the one who is responsible for most of the limitations in my life. Does that make any sense? Again, sorry for my bad English, I did my best!

Oh no, your english is perfect!

I think I know exactly what you mean. I think you've made me realize this placement teaches us that we are our own worst enemy.

I have Saturn in Capricorn in the 12th. I am still trying to figure it all out, lol and as soon as I do, I'll let cha know,

Wildrose~your english is better than mine
Truly having a hard time understanding why you need to apologize for your English, no one will have a hard time understanding you...its perfect. Maybe you feel you don't pronounce the words correctly?? You relay them in script very, very well.

Oh, and "Welcome" to you and LeapofFaith!!!

I have only one planet in the 12th but it is my cancer moon....so I imagine that's quite important since I also have ascendant cancer.....where does this mean I am cursed/blessed?
I feel as though it is my over-imagination!

You're welcome, WildRose!
Thanks noreenz and welcome to you too!

You know, I had so much to say about Saturn and the 12th house, and I have been reading the posts, but at times I get so overwhelmed with so much information that it's hard for me to communicate properly at times!

I did want to say that on a personal note, I did read the chapter about Saturn in the 12th house in Tracy Marks' book, and although I don't have that placement, I do have Saturn conjunct the ASC in the 1st and felt that I could sort of relate to the difficulties asso. with it in the 12th (I also have Venus in the 12th conj. Saturn in the 1st). After so many years of struggling through personal issues which affected my self-esteem and having a sort of gloomy outlook on the planet, I have been starting to notice, what Saturn truly means...

Saturn in the first house for me is all about working on myself and respecting my wants and needs. For years, I gave off the image that I was responsible, hardworking and disciplined, and while those are good qualities to have, that, I realized was only a superficial look at Saturn--and a superficial image that I gave of it!

Saturn's deeper meaning started coming to me not long ago. I have been volunteering now because I'm on leave from school and possibly interested in changing careers. I have come to learn already from a few recent experiences what I am capable of handling and what drains my energy or my spirit so much that I need to let go of it for time being...And this process is sure to be a lengthy one, but I realize, necessary in order to find out the right career and interests for me...

I know how hard it can be to experience setbacks and failures: I have had so many in my life that when they have happened, I took it so personally at first that I thought all hope was lost with my life (And being the sensitive person that I am, I still can take failures personally!). With these recent experiences, after openly expressing my disappointment to close ones and giving myself the time and space to just reflect and rest and heal, I realized that sometimes or oftentimes, it's through disappointments and failures that we learn best about ourselves.

And also, I understand that it can be hard to express disappointment and failure--it was so hard for me to tell my neighbor this past weekend what a disappointing time I had. But, she insisted I get my feelings out because they shouldn't eat you up inside. Getting out feelings, is something else I'm working on too after suppressing them in for so many years (I think that was the negative side of Venus in the 12th for me)

The point is: It's OK to have your own healthy limitations, the boundaries that you yourself draw up because you come to learn what works for you and what doesn't; what you can handle, and what you find out is just too much in the end and that you need to let go of it so that you can continue to grow as the person you want to be, so you can manifest the dreams that you want to in reality...

As I said in another post in my astrology class, it was said your can learn about your most recent life by looking at your twelth house.

For example, mine is in Gemini, which suggests I was some form of public speaker. My mars is there, which suggests I spoke aggressivly, perhaps as a lawyer, or political debater. The mars also suggests I may have been murdered.

This made sense, as I took a few law classes in which I did very well, and was also on my high school debate team.

My debate team had to be disbanded, however, after a few students got whipped up into a bit of a frenzy while I was giving a particularly rousing speech, and a fist fight broke out.

Then, there is also the teaching that your Moon is what you were in the previous life, your Sun is what you are becoming, and your Ascendant is the path you are supposed to take in order to become your Sun.

Also, Wild Rose, while Saturn can be about suppression and depression, it can just as easily be about structure and disciplin.

I would guess that you have a structured and disciplined way of study when it comes to the mystical forces, and magickal disciplines. No surprise, then, to find you in an Astrology group.

I would also bet that you have looked into alchemy.

I have nSaturn in the 3rd, but Transiting Saturn has been in my 12th since last July and will be there until around Sept 3rd 2007 when it FINALLY enters Virgo. So far, it's been all about cleaning my psychic closets -- getting rid of old emotional junk, discarding those unconscious habits and values that just don't work anymore.....

Here's a good section on tSaturn:
http://www.cafeastrology.com/saturntransitinghouses.html

I suspect those of you with nSaturn in XII in your makeup may find it easier than the rest of us to do this spiritual "spring cleaning".....
