I'm really vague on what this is and what it's for. I've goggled a bit and... I'm still not that clear. Can anyone recommend a good book so I can start learning about this seriously? Can anyone give me a basic explanation on what progessions are and what they're used for? Thanks! IP: Logged |

Hi Venus,This is a good link to look at some of the astrology books out there about prediction and progressions. Not every book on progressions is listed though. http://www.astroamerica.com/forecast.html These are some that I recommend: THE ONLY WAY TO LEARN ABOUT TOMORROW - Marion March & Joan McEvers ASTROLOGY: A Language of Life, vol. 1: PROGRESSIONS - Robert P. Blaschke Secondary Progressions: Time to Remember by Nancy Hastings I like cafe astrology as well. IP: Logged |

I think it's best to think of the secondary progressions as a 'deeper layer' of progress--a long term, slow-motion snap shot of 'where we are now', particularly in developmental sense. When aspects become exact by progression, for example, it's the culmination of a lifetime of progress. The slower moving planets, even though they don't move very quickly, do in fact become exact to the minute to other aspects in the chart, and to the progressed Moon. These are crucial times. Think of the progressed Moon as the minute hand and the Progressed Sun as the hour hand on the clock face of the chart. Solar Arc directions, as they are based solely on the movement of the Sun, move the planets very quickly, and emphasize in a more immediate sense (these aspects need to be very exact) what is going on via long term secondary progression--and particularly the progressed Sun and whatever aspects it forms. Solar Arcs are a good indicator of 'events'--but so is the progressed Moon, when it makes exact aspects. You'll have to find your own way of consolidating all the information, through observation. In my opinion, if you use Solar Arc directions without looking at the underlying energy of Seconary Progressions, you miss a deeper level of developmental meaning. You have the event, but you miss the 'why'.IP: Logged |

Venus De Milo -Doing Progressions is something that seems to be difficult, especially when you have to consider all the other Horary Charts. I am not aware of how far along you are, if you're still learning the basics, or if you're almost pro. But if you are interested in Horary Charts in general, I wouldn't start with Progressions. That's just me. Sometimes just doing a Transit Chart is enough of the future I can take in. And then there are people who really specialize in one. I hope you get more resonses. ------------------ ... it's better to light a candle than curse the darkness IP: Logged |

astro,I realize your probably know this, but for those who are trying to understand progressed charts it may be helpful to clarify. Progressed charts are NOT horary charts. Progressed charts are charts that are created by manipulating the normal flow of time (for example, a progressed secondary chart sets the chart calculation so that one day in a person's chart equals one year of a person's real life). A Horary chart is a chart created to answer a yes or no question a person asks. The chart is created at the exact time the astrologer receives the question. The astrologer then interprets the chart to find out the answer to the person's question. Progressively horarizing, Tim IP: Logged |

Oh, I'm glad you pointed that out. I should probably read more on my own, but I guess I reasoned that since you are manipulating the Chart into increments of time, that it is looking into a window of time. So I guess the Progressed Chart just gives an alternative way of seeing the present, or I'm guessing. But I'll be able to remember that Progressed Charts aren't considered Horary. I'm not into the realm of Horary anyways, and working with simple Transits are about as much as I can take in.------------------ ... it's better to light a candle than curse the darkness IP: Logged | |
