Unaspected Planets

How effective is a planet that has no aspects? ‘What is more important - the house the planet is in or its sign?
What other factors should you consider in delineating unaspected planets in a chart?
First, list the planet, its sign and the house it occupies. Consider the Planetary Powers, Fixed Signs, Lords of Karma, Critical Degrees (also 29° of any sign & 18° Scorpio), at the Degree of Nodes, Retrograde, Cardinal or Mutable signs.

UNASPECTED PLANETS HOUSE POSITIONS.
Because these unaspected planets are not making any aspects to other planets, they have to go it alone. The house where the unaspected planet rules gives the only way out for this planet. Angular houses are more difficult for unaspected planets than other houses. This is because the individual must learn the influence of the unaspected planet in personal issues of their lives.

The 1st house frustrates the person to find their place in the world. The person will feel the planet’s energy strongly. The 4th house gives the individual problems in the home and family area. The 7th house can be difficult on marriage and partnerships. The 10th house can give the individual
problems in their career. Succendent houses hold lessons of values, money and love. Cadent houses bring lessons in the manner of expression, work, health, spiritual awareness and dealing with suppressed emotions.

UNASPECTED PLANETS THAT HAVE A PLANETARY POWER.
This is the next important factor in weighing unaspected planets. In a chart where a planet is in a
Planetary Power, the person wants the sign and planet to speak loudly. Rulership and Exaltation are the strongest, followed by Detriment and Fall. Unaspected planets in Rulership and Exaltation allow the person to control the planetary energy more easily. Detriment and Fall will make it more difficult.

UNASPECTED PLANETS IN FIXED SIGNS OR AT THE DEGREE OF LORDS OF KARMA.
The planet repeats a karmic lesson from a past lifetime again in this life, but cannot work out the lesson in conjunction with another planet. The sign it occupies is a description of the type of energy. It must work out the life lesson by the
house it occupies and the house it rules. If this planet is unaspected and at the Degree of the Lords of Karma, 15 Fixed, it is more difficult than any other Fixed Sign. These lessons are coming from many lifetimes of improper use of the planet’s energy.

UNASPECTED PLANETS AT CRITICAL DEGREES.
When a planet is at a Critical Degree and unaspected, the planet is very afflicted in the chart. The individual has chosen difficult planetary energy this lifetime. Unaspected planets at 29° or 18 Scorpio makes lessons even more difficult. The individual must learn how to handle these energies in this life. The house the planet is in and the one(s) it rules are the areas of most concern.

UNASPECTED PLANETS AT DEGREE OF NODES.
Any planet at the exact Degree of the Nodes highlights some areas for learning life’s lessons. The house placement of
the planet, the house it rules, and the two houses where the nodes fall shows in this life critical areas of the chart. Because the planet is also unaspected, it gives the individual only these areas to work with in the chart.

UNASPECTED PLANETS THAT ARE RETROGRADE.
When a planet is retrograde and unaspected, it shows a repeat of a lesson that the individual was working on and in this life needs to finish up. The lesson this life is shown by the house the planet falls in and where it rules. This lesson is
easier to work with because it is a repeat of the same planet’s energy. Being unaspected in this lifetime only narrows down the lesson.

UNASPECTED PLANETS IN CARDINAL & MUTABLE SIGNS.
These planets are new life lessons. The individual is just beginning a new path of life. The person has chosen specifically this new planetary energy without combining any other planet’s energy. The house placement and where the planet rules are how the individual wants to work out a new path for the soul. The fact that the planet is unaspected limits the areas of its expression.

UNASPECTED SUN OR MOON.
These are probably the most difficult areas of a chart to have unaspected. Because the “lights” in the chart are involved, the person really has no other way to express their own unique self. Having the Sun or Moon unaspected will make the individual feel incomplete in some manner. The “lights” need aspects to extend their light to another planet. What the individual might do in this life is to concentrate their personality and ego in another area of their chart. For example, a person may be more like their Saturn or Mars. The house placement and where the Sun and Moon rule, is extremely important for the individual. These areas are where they can “shine.” It is important that the person tries hard to work in those areas so they can feel more secure in their own identity. An unaspected Sun or Moon needs progressions to pick up another planet’s energy.

UNASPECTED SATURN.
In this life there is an important life lesson. Because it only involves Saturn, its house placement and where it rules, the area is clearly defined. The lessons of Saturn should be carefully examined. The fact that Saturn makes no aspects puts the emphasis also on the sign’s lessons. When the person has their Saturn return, they will learn how well they are doing.
There are other factors that should be considered. Suppose a planet is unaspected, at a Critical Degree and retrograde. This only highlights the planet in a more intense manner.
Unaspected planets are difficult in themselves, but adding on other difficult factors only complicates the lesson in this life.
Why would a person choose to have an unaspected planet? The answer is that the individual wanted to work hard in this life learning the lessons of the planetary energy. They wanted to focus on that specific planet in their chart without another planet’s energy complicating the lesson. Was the person looking for a very important life lesson? The answer is yes. Working with the lesson involving only that planet allows a person to concentrate on the planet itself, where it is by house and where it rules.
How effective is a planet that has no aspects? The answer is very effective if the person does not ignore this planet. The individual should focus on the areas of concern the planet indicates. It will be hard to work with this planet unless the person uses the transits to bring opportunities for growth. Also, as this planet progresses and makes aspects to other planets, other areas of opportunities will open up.
Which is more important, the house the planet is in or the sign? The answer is both. It is the individual asking for a certain combination of planetary energy and sign’s meaning to fall in the area where lessons need to be learned. This is why the soul chose an unaspected planet. The soul wanted to limit and define a lesson for the individual.
Unaspected planets in a chart carry a loud message to the individual. The planet wants to be heard and not ignored. The person should work on developing the planet and taking it to a higher level. The best way to work with unaspected planets is to take full advantage of transits and progressions. If this planet gets lost in the chart, the person will be tested all through life with difficult situations. It is best to recognize that the unaspected planet screams for attention and like a child, needs to learn discipline and direction. Listen carefully!!!

Unaspected planets carry a loud message. The planet wants to be heard, not ignored.
That is the important life lesson.

Does SemiSextile count as a legitimate aspect? If not, I guess my Mars and Uranus are both unaspected.

Scorpionic Web- I wouldn't say so, because if that would be calculated as a legitimate aspect then pretty soon mostly all of the planets will've aspects. I think the aspects the article is probably talking about is the five major ones thats the conjunction, sextile, opposition, trine, and square and anything different from that would probably be an unaspected planet.

On that note, zala, what if I've something like say Saturn in Cap at 24 degrees, but my sun is in 1 degrees Cap, I can't really say that my Saturn has any aspects cause its too far away degrees wise from my Sun in cap, so in that case, should I count it as an unaspected planet? or should aspects in this kind of analogy be considered only on sign-to-sign basis without using degrees.

carl ~

If you have your astro.com natal chart, look for any planets that don't have red (conj,sq,opp), blue (sextile, trine), green-hashline (quincunx), green-dotted (semi-sextile) or black dotted (semi-sq,sesquisquare) lines between each other. Chiron is unaspected in my chart.....

cappyme ~

Since your Sun and Saturn aren't conjunct, there is no aspect. Degrees of orb are the key here -- and there are as many different opinions on allowable orb as there are astrology students

Why are North Node aspects considered?

My Mars opposes my NN with a 4-degree orb. Any idea what this means? I know nothing about the North Node...

Since I have that Mars/NN opposition, I guess my 4th House Uranus in Sagittarius is my only unaspected planet. I can paint a picture of what this might mean, but I'm not entirely sure...

It appears Astro.com uses a super-wide orb of 10-degrees to base their aspects. I've always considered 7 to 8 degrees to be the absolute widest acceptable orb for establishing most true aspects, and should even be tighter for certain specific aspects.
