Hi all,

What would be indicators of learning disabilities/special needs stuff
that you would look for in a person's chart? What about indicators for
having learning disabled/special needs
children,spouse,sibling,mother,father,and/or other significant people.

When I am talking about special needs(I am talking about learning
disabilities,autism,mental retardation,Aspergers,ADHD...anything that
requires special attention especially when it comes to development/education but not having to do with mental illness)

My mother had special needs/learning disabled child, and that's me with my Dyslexia,Dyspraxia and was in special education(motor skills therapy, auditory therapy, speech therapy, and phonics training) in my early elementary school years. My father had Dyslexic,Dyspraxic traits
including speech problems(stuttering, cluttering),needing things repeated, highly emotional, hypersensitivity, and awkwardness with his hands. He also had drug problems too. He might have had AD/HD. He was
also diagnosed as having paranoid schizophrenia by prison psychiatrist(this was back in the 1960's when many blacks didn't have civil rights...blacks were viewed rather negatively). He believed in Voodoo too,and he was raised by his grandmother that believed in magickal protection. He was very superstitious. My father was born in
New Orleans and raised in Lake Charles,Louisiana.

I,myself was diagnosed as an adult as having schizoaffective bipolar disorder because of my cluttering without any psychological nor
neurological testing being done. His Moon in Pisces(same moon placement as me) and stationary retrograde Neptune indicates his
extremely sensitive nature.

My father was black, but my mom is white. Therefore my mother was in interracial relationship and has mixed ethnic child. My mother always was attracted to black men but never to white men. My mother told me that she has a lot of the Dyslexic symptoms too. She also has AD/HD symptoms. She has a history of drug and alcohol abuse.

I feel that my Mom's indicators for special need/learning disabled children and lover are:

5th house ruler Venus conjunct Uranus squaring Neptune in Libra in 5th. Chiron in 8th square Neptune in 5th and oppose Venus in 2nd for t-square. Sun in 12th house trine Neptune in 5th.

She has 9th house ruler Uranus conjunct Venus can be lovers of other cultures that include different ethnicities. Her relationships didn't last long. She also had relationship with step first cousin which produced a son that was given up for adoption, and she was only 15 at the time. This could be her Scorpio Moon in 5th house square Pluto in
3rd as well as her Saturn in Scorpio in 5th house. This was before she met my father in San Francisco. She didn't tell me about until 1993 when I was 21 years old. This happened to be only a couple of months before my father died. I found out about my father's death on December 31, 2002. I found out from social security california death record
index on internet. My mother thought he OD'd when I was a baby, and so she was surprised that he lived much longer and was in Los Angeles area which was where my father's uncle lived. My uncle got my father
selling drugs for him when my father was 19 shortly after my father moved to Los Angeles from Louisiana to be with his uncle who was
financially well-off. My father's family didn't know that he made his
money illegally.

My mother had romances with older men,and she has 7th house ruler Saturn in Scorpio in 5th house sextile Mars-descendant conjunction in
Capricorn. My father was almost 31 years old and my mother was 17 when I was born. My mother married a black man that was 25 yrs older than her(6 yrs older than her father),but that was a marriage of convenience. He was retired Air Force with service connected disability. She was divorced in 1991 after being married since 1977.

My mother and father were never married, and so I am illegitimate. I even have my mother's maiden name for last name.

I feel that my Pisces Moon in 6th house square the opposition of 7th
house ruler Neptune in 3rd and 5th house ruler Saturn in Gemini in 9th house not only
indicates my being a special needs/learning
disabled(Dyslexic,Dyspraxic person)but also my parents who had Dyslexic,Dyspraxic symptoms too. It is very possible that I could have special needs/learning disabled children that inherit my Dyslexia,Dyspraxia. was romantically attracted to gals with Dyslexia,ADHD. The first girl that I ever liked was a special ed girl that I knew that I was in special education when I was in 2nd grade, and she grew up to be a heavy drinker, promiscuous, and deceptive. She even used me for money.

I am involved with a woman right now,and she knows about my history of
Dyslexia,Dyspraxia and the mental health problems(Anxiety,Depression
and psychiatric misdiagnoses) that I had connected to those things.
She understands me and doesn't look down upon me because of those things. She's white, and so it's interracial relationship

I think her indicators of being involved with a special needs/learning disabled man are Moon in 7th/near 8th house cusp sextile stationary Neptune which trines her intercepted Mars in Aries in 1st which
opposes her Moon in 7th/near 8th house cusp.
Her intercepted Sun-Mercury in 1st trine 9th house ruler Jupiter conjunct Uranus in Sagittarius in 9th can indicate involved with men of other ethnicities with special needs/learning disabilities which
included also thinking outside the box.

Interestingly one of her exboyfriends was in special education, and he was very insecure because of that.

As an astrologer with history of learning disabilities/special needs,I would like to focus on learning disabled/special needs charts. After all, many of them do have psychological/psychiatric problems. That's
understandably so. Astrology has a lot to do with psychology, and so I feel astrologers should focus on learning disabilities/special needs stuff. I haven't seen any astrology book on any of those things even though learning disabilities is a problem that can lead to so many things that include problems with being misunderstood, being ridiculed, made fun of,being rejected, being bullied, even
bullying, alcoholism, drug use, substance abuse, unemployment, failed relationships, bad relationships, being in jail/prison,breaking the law, abusive relationships, child abuse, and just plain overall insecurity and low self esteem including belief of being stupid and incompetent.

Of course, many learning disabled are successful too. Tom Cruise, the
highest paid actor in Hollywood,is Dyslexic.

Some think President Bush is Dyslexic like his brother Neil. Of course,a lot of people think he's stupid too. I have know liberals
that pointed out how stupid he is just because of his speech errors while talking which some say is related to word retrieval issues that are common in Dyslexics. I have the same problems myself, but I am not
stupid. I have above average intelligence like many learning disabled people. BTW...I am not a supporter of Bush. I am liberal myself. I just don't like to see anybody referred to as being stupid because of
how they talk because that has happened to me.

No matter how we are, not everybody is going to like us. There will always be people that will dislike us...even for just being born. All we can do is just be ourselves and treat people like fellow human beings. Mainly treat each other like we want to be treated.

I believe in the dream of my fellow Pisces Moon,Dr Martin Luther King Jr.

I feel that my multiethnic ancestry, Dyslexic,Dyspraxic, special ed
experiences, misdiagnoses, and being mistreated/mistakened for gay have
helped me learn lessons of Unity/Universal love that seem fitting for
my Pisces Moon square Neptune. My biggest disappointment is that many
people don't share the idealism of universal love/unity which is mainly the things that Dr. Martin Luther King Jr stood for.

That's why I find Unitarian Universalism to be the perfect religion for me too. It's all about tolerance and acceptance.

Glaucus,

just want to send some good vibes your way for holding up and trying to understand yourself and the human condition. Keep on going!

As for special need placements, there's a few things that come to mind:

- mercury in the 12th house tends to give learning disability or an inability to make sense of information while surrounded by others, especially if mercury is conjunct neptune or makes a hard aspect to saturn

- mars in pisces while afflicted from a malefic can worsen motor coordination skills

- the personal planets receiving hard aspects from pluto will psychologically cripple the person depending on which planets pluto is aspecting (e.g. self/identity problems with the sun, extreme emotions or trauma with the moon, possibly paranoia with mercury, DPD with venus, uncontrollable anger or self-destructive impulses with mars)

- a chart where a personal planet receives hard aspects from multiple malefics disproportionately to the other personal planets

Hope this helps, maybe there is a compiled list of placements on this somewhere.

-jk

My daughter is developmentally delayed and she's got some heavy stuff in her chart. 10th house Sun conj north node and saturn opposite 4th house Pluto. She has mercury square to uranus. Her cancer planets inconj her neptune in aquarius.

I find she speaks her own language and I can't understand her. She is very clumbsy and has bruises on her legs from falling in the play ground. Her fine and gross motors skills are behind.

She is 4 years old and functions at a 2 1/2 year old level and I have been told she will catch up.

Yes,astrojunkie.

I just wanted to get other people's opinions about learning disability/autism/special needs indicators

They are so hard to pin down.

I wouldn't just focus on Mars for coordination. Coordination problems can be problems with nervous system which is ruled by Mercury and also by Uranus. Coordination problems can be having problems with brain transmitting messages to the body. Sensory integration issues can cause coordination problems.
Problems with the inner ears can cause coordination and balance problems.

Inner Depths,

I don't wish to alarm you, but as a Special Ed teacher who works who kids like your daughter (and someone with a pervasive deevelopmental condition herself), I know they don't just magically "catch up." Whatever is causing her delays now is most likely caused by something pervasive that will be with her all her life. She can very likely learn skills and strategies to cope with whatever she has, and eventually be just as functional as another kid her age. But at this very young age, she most likely needs plenty of intervention to prevent her from falling too far behind her peer level, which causes a multitude of other issues, from self-esteem to socialization to academic progress.

I know something of what parents with special needs kids go through, and how they get told a different story by whomever they take their child too. It can be very frustrating. But the thing is parents need to advocate for their child, and I hope you're doing that for your daughter. If you ever feel she needs more counseling and therapy than the "experts" tell you, go ahead and push for it. Good luck to both of you!

Hi,

I agree with Gemini Nymph.
This is not something that she's going to outgrow. She may need intensive therapies. She needs early intervention. The earlier, the better.

I had the same problems as your daughter

It was nuns who asked my mom when I was in preschool what language I spoke! I would talk and talk, and they wouldn't understand me. English is my native language.
So I was taken to see a psychologist, and he ruled out psychological problems. I was taken to check for mental retardation, but they couldn't tell for it was too early to tell. I was taken to get my speech and hearing tested. My mom was told that I wasn't hearing things right for I was turning stuff around. Mom was told that people have to slow down when talking to me. My mom was told that I had form of Dyslexia.

I was trained to hear things differently, had intensive speech therapy, and was given phonics training.

I also had to see a neurologist because of problems with balance and coordination problems. They didn't find any brain damage.
I had therapy for my fine motor skills. Swimming since I was 3 yrs old helped me with my gross motor skills.

I was in special education for 3 yrs. After first grade, it was known that my IQ was far higher than anybody in my special ed classroom, that I had above average IQ.

I was a full regular student from 3rd grade to end of high school. Specialists had predicted that I wouldn't be in regular classes until 7th grade.

You should get your daughter tested for Dyslexia,Dyspraxia, sensory integration disorder

Arnicka,

DPD stands for dependent personality disorder, feeling that one needs to be in close personal relationship with others with an unspecified fear of being alone (full article at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dependent_personality_disorder )

Venus square Pluto by itself won't necessarily cause DPD but can compel the person to develop it. Usually you get a greater than average need to relate to others intimately or an unusual attitude toward it.

Hi Glaucus,

I admire you so much for getting through it. I have a disabled (autistic) child. He's now 5 years old but still have not spoken one complete sentence. Any words at this time is either very hard to understand or very simple. I can only hope my son grows up to be like you... would be nice.

My son doesn't have any physical gross motor problems - except in the mouth/tongue coordination which makes it really hard for him to speak.

I am hopeful that he will break through this disability somehow. I am very very worried for him, as any parent would be. He is such a sweet child... very smart. He learns very quickly. We started to teach him sign language.

I do have Venus in Pisces in the 5th house. My birth data if you are interested for your research:
March 31, 1968, 8:20pm
Manila Philippines

My son's:
February 18, 2001 6:12am
Toronto, Ontario

Indicator of special needs would definitely be Mercury Square something like heres an example: (i just made this up)

Mercury Square Part of Fortune in the 3rd house,

Or Mercury Square Saturn in the 3rd house

with special needs Mercury is always involved because of "concrete intelligence", and saturn will be involved too, as well as the 3rd house, how you speak, write and interact.

I have to disagree with that. Mercury is not always involved. I know Dyslexics who don't have Mercury in hard aspect. One of them has Moon in t-square with Sun,Mars, and Saturn. They don't involve the 3rd houses either. Another has Pisces Moon in 3rd house though.

As for me.

I have Mercury conjunct Venus,Mercury contraparallel Saturn,Mercury parallel Neptune,Mercury parallel Venus.
I have Mercury conjunct Sun/Neptune midpoint.

I feel that my main Dyslexic,Dyspraxic indicator is Neptune in Sagittarius in 3rd involved in t-square with Saturn in Gemini in 9th and Moon in Pisces in 6th. add Mercury parallel Neptune and Mercury conjunct Sun/Neptune midpoint. I also have 3rd house ruler(Pluto)sextile Neptune. My communications is so Neptunian that I am too rightbrained for my own good that I think in pictures nonstop, visualize nonstop, get confused with words, distort words, poor short term memory, and speech issues. That's what my Dyslexia is like. It was mainly auditory/phonological processing problems. Most Dyslexics have those problems. Not visual problems.

I used to turn things around when I heard stuff, and so I spoke all jumbled up that people didn't understand me. So I was trained to hear things differently, had intensive speech therapy, and had phonics training. I had early intervention. Speech problems/delays are some of the early warning signs of Dyslexia.

I still tend to clutter(speak dysrhythmically, rapidly, loose, rambling),and that got mistaken for psychotic, bipolar speech by psychiatrists in my adult years. They didn't know that I had history of special education.

I have an uncle who has history of speech problems, and his mercury is not challenged. He even has Mercury in Virgo trine Saturn. He has Neptune in 3rd like me. He was in special education for speech problems and hyperactivity. He has Moon in Aquarius in 6th oppose Uranus-Ascendant conjunction in Leo.
