Hello everyone,
My name is Monica and I am new to the board(Sun in Libra Moon in Cancer). I was really curious about the synastry aspect Mars square Mars(tight orb) and other similiar hard mars aspects, what can I expect in a relationship with this kind of aspect??

Libraschoice,

Mars at its core represents drive, usually in physical and subjective terms. In a person's horoscope it shows how and where we choose to direct our energy, even how we tend to get things done. Mars has close ties to the ego and it's the planet that would like us to believe that we're on our own, competing with everyone else.

So a hard aspect between the two persons' mars would show internal conflict based on the two's own perceptions of what they want. With the square you can expect disagreements and conflict, both starting out with the same idea but then finding that the latter disagrees with the former's way of doing things. In the end there could be fights based on 'little' things each person does that irritate the other.

The aspect can also work out well stimulating the two to look outside themselves and see things from one another's point of view, which can be valuable.

(that's just my thoughts on this aspect, hope it helps you a bit)

Thanks jkxx,
So it's about ego and physical energy?! That's funny because I find myself most attracted to guys where there are harsh square aspects involved between us(Venus square Mars, Sun square Mars, Pluto square Mars, etc.)Hope that doesn't mean I like conflict. Yikes!

Yes, it is about conflicts. If you are constantly attracted to that type of people it means you're a strong character yourself, one that seeks challenge and adventure

P.S. Do these relationships/attractions usually work out well?

Usually it's passionate but frustrating(at the same time), it starts off as a bright flame and ends in complete ashes. It's ether a Sun in Aries or Scorpio with a water moon and alot hard aspects in their own chart, it's all these ingredients that sets off a strong attraction. I am starting to wonder if everyone has an attraction pattern, you know for example people with easy and soft aspects in their chart being attracted to others with similiar soft aspect charts.

Just spilled my coffee reading that =)

I think you're right. For myself I've noticed that in relationship composite charts there's also a saturn-sun-mercury stellium stellium in approximate the same place in the chart regardless of all other aspects, and it really freaked me out. It's as if we keep looking for the same type of people to have the same kind of experience with them even if it's just the same pattern happening over and over. Hmm?

Hmmmm...a few thoughts come to mind here for me in my past experiences with people who have mars square or opposed to mine - even mars conj my own mars.

My lil bugaboo has mars opposite mine, plus a few more planets and my daughter and I have our moments together.

I have 2 siblings, a steparent and a best friend growing up who's mars all conj mine and can we say competition. We all have mars in Cappy.

I have an uncle and a sibling with mars square my mars and we seem to get along fine.

I have met 3 men with mars in aries and we seem to get along fine - however this is on the light and breezy level instead of intense and intimate....

my 2 cents

Hi Libra,
I have noticed the same pattern myself; almost all of my relationships including friendships have their mars square mine!
I think I would be bored without it.

And I always thought that Libras were suppose to be attracted to 'harmony' and 'peaceful' situations and people. Thats cool that I am not the only one that seems to find the diamond in the ROUGH appealing... so to speak.

libraschoice7 -

Libra Sun/Cancer Mooner here too.

Thanks for bringing this up as I have a VERY strong Natal Mars which is the Focal Point of a very challenging T-Square, and part of a Scorpio Stellium (3 Planets hugging each other in a rather tight Orb giving them extra power).

When I read jkxx's "Just spilled my coffee reading that" comment ... I spilled MY coffee.

I think a Natal Mars can reveal a lot about one's SELF-justifications and intentions.

Those of us who have seemingly wasted years in relationships with Mars Square or Opp in Synastry are simply EXERCISING muscles of will ...

... it IS for good reason as Mars is NOT frivolous! But just know that on some level, you DO know you are NOT in it for a longterm committment.

Like a mad azz game of musical chairs where no one wants to be left without a chair, the person with a lighter Natal Mars, such as in Gemini or Pisces, will be more likely to offer their chair over to their partner, in Synastry. They are comfortable picking up on the facts as they go along.

They do NOT need to know all the FACTS first like an Aries or Scorpio Mars. These Natal Mars never need to act with any degree of "flowery" cooperation. That is NOT Mars role!

In a relationship with Mars Square or Opp Synastry, the facts are insisted upon BEFORE action can be taken with any degree of cooperation. This can be fun if you like mystery and passion, and a degree of excitement due to the UNknowing. But remember that episode of I Love Lucy when she and Ethel are working at the chocolate factory?

This is why I think Mars' role in Synastry is SO important in reminding us that you can try to fool it some of the time, but you can't fool it ALL of the time. We can learn astrology and try to apply it to our relationships so we can get what we want. But ultimately, astrology will teach us WHY relationships end and why we move on, offering us a peace in that understanding.

When a relationship works, it involves not only the flowery cooperation, but the fortitude and conviction of having exercised our muscles of will in other relationships, one of the reasons why marrying too young doesn't work.

Mars with easier Aspects in Synastry doesn't need to hire Lucy & Ethel.
