NO LONGER A PLANET! Scientists have decided that Pluto will not be a planet because its oblong orbit overlaps Neptune's orbit. Thereby omitting it from being a planet.IP: Logged |

and why is man so arrogant that he think he can taketh what was found? Of course Astronomers have no respect for astrology though astrology was here first...these guys are the biggest fools...scientist. Maybe a alien came and told the Pluto was just a gas station for intergalatic travel...IP: Logged |

astrology n astronomy are different.just because the astronomers removed pluto from their so called planet list, doesnt mean that pluto wont have any impact on our lives anymore. pluto's vibrations wont change, n i dont think its status in astrology will change. thats what i believe. IP: Logged |

I just got a breaking news alert about this in my email box this morning. I was wondering what astrologers are going to do about this or how it would effect astrology. So much for the powerful Pluto effect I guess. A previous story stated that at this meeting of astronomers they were going to consider adding the two moons of Pluto as planets but I haven't heard anything about that. Here is the article from breaking news: Nine Planets? Count Again -- Minus Pluto The International Astronomical Union approved new guidelines Thursday that downsize the solar system from nine planets to eight. The leading astronomers, meeting in Prague, Czech Republic, stripped Pluto of the planetary status it has held since 1930, when it was discovered. In doing so, the group provided a new definition of what is and what isn't a planet. Pluto failed to make the new cut because its oblong orbit overlaps with Neptune's. It will now be a founding member of the new class of "dwarf planets." The guidelines also require planets to have enough mass that they are close to round. Astronomers have been trying to draw a distinction between the eight "classical planets" -- Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus and Neptune -- and Pluto, which is smaller than Earth's moon and has an eccentric orbit. Pluto has a large moon named Charon, and two small moons named Nix and Hydra were discovered in 2005. In January, NASA sent a probe known as New Horizons on the way to Pluto. It is expected to reach the object in 2015. Distributed by Internet Broadcasting Systems, Inc. The Associated Press contributed to this report. All rights reserved. The Sign of Scorpio stills has a home in Pluto, good to know! Still, the fact that Pluto stands out from the other planets on the astrological wheel--makes me think that this has alot to with it's powerful, mysterious aura.- Pluto simply prefers to be alone in this!IP: Logged |

yeah, i was just reading this article! gosh- my pluto is the strongest planet in my chart. and it's in scorpio!i don't really care what scientists are labeling pluto AS. it's still important. "What's in a name? That which we call a rose By any other word would smell as sweet."

I was thinking about Mars being the first ruler of Scorpio, as well. I have to say, though, that when I first started studying astrology, I found that Pluto transits matched up to extremely tough times for me when I was a child/teenager, and onwards. I knew nothing about Pluto and its effects at the time, so it couldn't be blamed on my reading about transits and believing them into being. IP: Logged |

It's a matter of perspective. Personally, I'm glad I can't be an obsessive, possessive Venus-Pluto opposite anymore. Pluto has been stripped of its power.Yahoo for Astronomy. S_T IP: Logged |

I'll echo what some said about astrology and astronomy being different.Pluto still counts in my book. Besides, how could someone think of just tossing Hades aside like that? I'm sure he won't like it. ------------------ "To learn is to live, to study is to grow, and growth is the measurement of life. "Pluto has just been demoted." "The celestial body, long known as a planet, will now be considered a "dwarf planet," the General Assembly of the 2006 International Astronomical Union ruled in a vote Thursday in Prague, Czech Republic. Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus and Neptune will be defined as "classical planets." Three other bodies had been contending for planetary status as well: Ceres, the largest-known asteroid; "Xena," the nickname for 2003 UB313; and Charon, which has been considered Pluto's moon. Ceres and "Xena" will now share "dwarf planet" status with Pluto. Charon, it has been concluded, will be grouped with "small solar-system bodies." The IAU said in a statement on Thursday that the definition for planet is now officially "a celestial body that (a) is in orbit around the Sun, (b) has sufficient mass for its self-gravity to overcome rigid body forces so that it assumes a hydrostatic equilibrium (nearly round) shape and (c) has cleared the neighborhood around its orbit."
"More dwarf planets are expected to be announced by the IAU in the coming months and years,"a ccording to the IAU statement. "Currently, a dozen candidate dwarf planets are listed on IAU's dwarf planet watchlist, which keeps changing as new objects are found and the physics of the existing candidates becomes better-known." About 2,500 members of the IAU, a community of astronomers from around the world, have been meeting since late last week to debate and vote on a series of resolutions that include definitions of solar-system bodies. The IAU General Assembly is held every three years. This session, four terrestrial bodies in particular have been the focus of the debate--the most prominent being Pluto, which was discovered in 1930." IP: Logged |

I'm not a happy camper here. I'm sure many are asking questions on what to do with Pluto in astrology now. I figure some won't change a thing about it and still call pluto a planet. But on the other hand, would some treat pluto like a strong asteroid? Will mars be put as Scorpios's planetary ruler again? So many things whiz through my mind here.if they have considered Pluto to be a dwarf planet, then Pluto is still a planet. I think Pluto should be a planet cause Pluto has moons that orbit around him/her. I don't think asteroids have little moons going around them. ID IP: Logged |

Hmm hot ice, I hadnt thought of that!As far as I see it, Pluto is still an astronomical body. If they'd said it had disappeared, or never existed, then we should have concerns. The fact is it DOES exist, whether it is considered to be a "planet" by astronomers or not. Lets face it astronomers and astrologers rarely see eye to eye anyway! Pluto is still out there, part of our galaxy, whatever it's new status and name are. I just read on astro.com that they called it "Gimli". Not as awe inspiring to say I have a negative Venus-Gimli aspect is it? Will be following this thread with interest. IP: Logged |

Hmmmmm..... so I only have a dwarf planet on my Ascendent..... I feel..... diminished somehow..... From Yasmin Boland: quote: THE MASTER OF THE DARK ARTS GETS A CLOAK OF INVISIBILITYAs you have probably heard, modern planet Pluto has been downgraded to the status of 'dwarf planet' by the powers-that-be in the astronomical community. So does that mean the Lord Of The Underworld is now diminished, that he's somehow less powerful today he was yesterday? Not at all. One of the overwhelming features of Pluto has always been his ability to act with stealth - quietly transforming from the inside out, while the rest of the world snoozes. In some ways, then, he's actually stronger now than before. It's as though the Master Of The Dark Arts has been given a Cloak Of Invisibility...
