So let's say Jane doe had her chart read when she was an infant and her parents were told by numerous astrologers that the child has a violent temper. Now, they could just brace themselves for the tornado that's going to erupt in two years or so or they could take action to soften the blow. they decide to take into consideration the inborn tendencies and prepare their child to handle the feeling of anger by modeling acceptable ways to deal with it(as well as preparing themselves) and discussing options other than hurting people...When the child grows up the anger is there but it is directed in a positive way because it is what Jane knows how to do thanks to her reasonable parents. This ability to handle a normaly negative natural tendency in a positive way astrologically speaking is called overcoming your chart and is what the goal is of your life time. To rise above the negatives and ulitmately become pure love so you don't have to keep coming back. Other's may word it differently but that is the gist of it. And it does not have to come about when you are an infant-there are many ways and circumstances in which this happens. Just an example off the top of my head.

Astrology is just a guide to see where the challenges may lie. It's up to the individual to accept their 'fate' or to turn it around.
