28º Libra 40'

I try, in my work, to represent myself as though I am the other. We are the other."
Orhan Pamuk, 2006 Nobel Prize winner for literature.

Because Libra rules all forms of relating, I believe it might be worth beginning with the most important of all human relationships: our stewardship of this planet. I'd like to quote from an October 8th NY Times science article titled, "An Elephant Crack-up", which highlights humanity's undeniable role in the horrific demise of the all-important social fabric of elephant life; especially among adolescent male elephants that have witnessed first-hand violence against their relatives, and have in response become rampaging killers of humans. "…in Elephant Breakdown, a 2005 essay in the journal Nature, Gay Bradshaw and several colleagues argued that today's elephant populations are suffering from a form of chronic stress, a kind of species-wide trauma. Decades of poaching and culling and habitat loss, they claim, have so disrupted the intricate web of familial and societal relations by which young elephants have traditionally been raised in the wild, and by which established elephant herds are governed, that what we are now witnessing is nothing less than a precipitous collapse of elephant culture… It has long been apparent that every large, land-based animal on this planet is ultimately fighting a losing battle with humankind. And yet entirely befitting of an animal with such a highly developed sensibility, a deep-rooted sense of family and, yes, such a good long-term memory, the elephant is not going out quietly. It is not leaving without making some kind of statement, one to which scientists from a variety of disciplines, including human psychology, are now beginning to pay close attention."

Early this month, murder rampaged three schools in America, and a fourth school was saved from a semi-automatic rifle wielding 16 year-old, by a Principle who calmly, gently, reached this child and prevented another disaster. And a nuclear North Korea is our own psychotic shadow facing us squarely in the eye. What have we come to? Our violence has become so widespread, so expected, and unfortunately, so completely nurtured in our young through violent video games and TV. Relationship has become passé and irrelevant. It's almost as if humans are giving permission to a belief system which goes something like this: You don't like someone, or something they believe? Fine, just get rid of them.

So more than ever, this year we all need to do very serious ritual work on this New Moon in Libra; the sign of justice, negotiation, deep-listening, love and caring for "the other." On a personal level, it is time for each of us to come into relationship with our own responsibility to be a part of the solution and not part of the problem. If our own lives are full of conflict and dis-ease, how can we possibly rail against those who wreak havoc on a global level? Look within, get active, and shower love locally; your actions and intentions will reverberate out like waves in a pond, shifting the entropic downward spiral we see happening all around us.

Because the Libra New Moon rules love and relationship, this is the most powerful New Moon for bringing new love into your life. This year, the Libra New Moon has a lot of help from a very tight conjunction with Sun, Venus and Mars in Libra, and the Mercury/Jupiter in Scorpio square Saturn in Leo. This should make all your ritual work (and there are a lot of suggestions in this Moon Message) potently real and action-oriented.

Okay, all that said, let's move into our New Moon ritual working space of love and relationship. While it is true that most of us would rather be with others than alone, rarely are people taught the necessary skills for creating good relationships. Our "learn as you go along" approach to love often leads to painful and heartbreaking experiences. Your failed relationships may have taught you a lot, but have you learned enough to prevent making the same mistakes with someone new?

Lots of people come for readings to find out when they will meet the right person. My first question is always, "Are you are getting out and meeting people?" Most of the time, the answer I hear is, "no." The crapshoot of dating brings up so much fear and keeps many people from doing it at all. We worry about what kind of person we will attract, about past history, baggage, character, integrity and trustworthiness. Though the unknown is scary, the truth is, love requires vulnerability and trust. So if you are ready for love, your main concern should be figuring out exactly what you want, and being strong enough to settle for nothing less.

Enter the New Moon in Libra! This is the perfect time, through ritual, to clearly define your qualifications for a relationship, and set the intention to make it happen. This ritual should be done in an environment that is comforting and full of romantic ambiance. Your bedroom is the ideal location. However, before you begin, clear the room of clutter and make it inviting by filling it with flowers, candles, and incense. You might even decide to invest in a new mattress or whole new bed as a symbol of a brand new start.

I recommend a New Moon in Libra ritual that revolves around serious list making. Libra is the communicator and this is the time to clearly communicate what you want, so the universe can line up behind your intention and make it a reality. (Venus in Libra should temper the intensity of Jupiter/Mercury in Scorpio. Hopefully finding ways to be honest with yourself will come without being brutal.) Create your lists as though you are weaving a piece of fabric, using your mental and emotional energy to build intention with substance and form. Here are some list suggestions.

Lists for those of you who have yet to find "the right one":
List 1: What kind of partners have you attracted in the past that you don't want in your future?
List 2: What behavior of your own has contributed to the failure of your past relationships?
List 3: What kind of love do you deserve and why have you been unable to manifest it?
List 4: What kind of partner/relationship do you want in your future?
List 5: What new venues or activities will help widen your choice of prospective partners?
List 6: Now custom-build the right partner and be specific! Include their emotional capabilities, career, interests, character type, physical characteristics, and future goals.

Lists for those of you who have lost a wonderful partner and are ready for someone new:
List 1: Write all about your lost love: the great, the bad, the beautiful, and the ugly.
List 2: Write all about you. Who were you then, and who are you now?
List 3: What kind of person will fit who you have become?
List 4: What kind of relationship will fit who you are now?
List 5: Write about the fear of putting yourself out there.
List 6: What new venues or activities will help widen your choice of perspective partners?

End the ritual by making a commitment to begin taking action on the Taurus Full Moon (November 5.) When you have finished, place the lists in a sacred place somewhere in your bedroom. Read the lists each day while the Moon is waxing to full. Don't be afraid to refine or edit the lists. It helps build the energy. Some people make collages that represent partners and new relationships. Anything that helps you to be clear about your desires is useful.

Those of you who are already in a relationship can use the Libra New Moon for building a stronger, deeper love. Mars and Venus in Libra and Mercury/Jupiter in Scorpio will help to increase the ability to be truthful with partners, while practicing deep listening from the heart. This is a great New Moon phase for working on problems, especially if they revolve around poor communication.

Since Libra rules all forms of relating, this is not only applicable for couples, but also for family and work relationships.

Libra revels in openness and sharing. So don't do this ritual alone! It takes at least two to make a relationship. So use this ritual to build mutual intention toward healing your problems. Libra is the listener of the zodiac. The only way to achieve fairness and understanding is to share your feelings and then carefully listen to the feelings of others. Use this time to engage in meaningful discussions. Libra rules compromise and negotiation and helps us learn to get what we want while making the other party feel like the winner. Win/win is the way of Libra! This is a great time to work on troublesome family interactions and to set goals for creating more family time.

If money is one of those issues that creates a lot of conflict in your relationship, this is the Venus-ruled New Moon to set new goals for budgeting, saving, and spending. With Saturn (responsibility) in Leo (personal power and creativity), Venus (finances) and Mars (action) in Libra (negotiation), this is the time to set goals and look deeply at what a secure financial future might mean? Mercury in Scorpio should help you communicate your deepest fears and talk about the roots of conflict that stir arguments and misunderstanding around money issues. Vulnerability and honesty is the key to making this work a success.

The New Moon is Libra is a great time to caretake intimate relationships. Often the demands of work and parenting sidetrack many couples and make it hard to find private time for intimacy. Love needs tending to remain vibrant and strong. So use this night to do some caretaking, and revel in the joy of your love. Remember those goals you set way back in the beginning of your relationship? If they are still applicable, reinvigorate them and set new guidelines for achieving them through teamwork. If those old goals don't fit anymore, be creative and set new ones to fit who you have both become.

The New Moon in Libra is the perfect time to commit to creating a more peaceful life, especially when faced with mounting hatred and misunderstanding. Here is my own relationship "action list" that I will work to cultivate on this New Moon in Libra. Feel free to use it!
1. Learn to listen without interrupting.
2. Before losing my temper, I will stop, breathe, and be compassionate in my thinking.
3. Think before I speak.
4. Remember that compromise is the basic building block of all solutions.
5. Violence is never an appropriate response.
6. Embrace differences without being attached to them.
7. Remember that "the truth" is relative, but honesty about "my truth" is imperative.
8. If someone claims to be my enemy, they don't really know me, they only know who they think I am. It is my job to make them a friend by letting them get to know me.
9. Try to be objective about my own faults when criticizing others.
10. If I give a little, I get a lot. If I give a lot, I get more than I could ever imagine.
11. Saying and doing everything with love and respect is the only way to win.
These Libran principles are applicable to all our relationships, be they intimate, familial or professional. Think of how different our world would be if we all practiced these values. There is a higher way that does not include violence. This is the New Moon to remind yourself that all any of us ever really needs is love! And yes, you do deserve to be loved!!!

Have a wonderful weekend, everyone!!

Very nice indeed, but reality and ppl are something else.
But, nevertheless, good words.

The Wounded Healer's shift into forward gear in Aquarius makes it easier to solve problems within groups. Opening Chiron's energy to more overt discussion, though, shouldn't bog down into an ongoing ***** fest. It's fine to complain, whine and moan, as long as it's the first step in a process of reconciliation, rather than a final affirmation of how badly things are going.

This New Moon is a time to finish, rather than begin. Its square from terminating Pluto tells us that endings come first now. The solar eclipse conjoined the South Node is another message from the present telling us to let go of the past. Give up material perfection and stray from areas where you have high levels of competence to explore more inspiring territory. This will feed your soul no matter how foolish you may feel. We need encouragement, not criticism, to trust that our wanderings are not a signal of being lost, but a sign that we're finding our way home.
