Well, this is just the way I do this:

1. Understand every person`s natal horoscope.

2. Compare the natal horoscopes of person A with person B to look, if there`s a compatibility.
Ex: Person A has Moon in Scorpio and Person B has Moon conjunct Pluto; so there would be a basic emotional affinity, regardless of synastry-aspects.

3. Look at the synastry horoscope:
That means you compare the two person`s planets with each other and see if there are any aspects.
If Person A has Moon in 12° Scorpio and Person B has Venus in 14° Scorpio, there would be a conjunction of Moon and Venus. It basically shows how people react to each other.

4. The composite is a relationship-horoscope. It shows what the relationship is like.

Hope that helps.

hi ana.
the composite is a reflection of what the relationship will be like, asummimg the couple "merge" into one.synastry looks at the two as individual beings, the dynamics between to points.
i prefer composite because usually when someone whats to know about another ,they are looking for a relationship.so i go strait to the relationship chart to see if it workable.another reason i like composites is it is less complex.synastry often gives many complicated aspects, and one is left wondering which are signifigant and which are chaff.example:does he love me?in a composite one looks to the mars/venus aspects.in synastry one looks for the mars and venus for both ,giving 4 points and their aspects to consider.and again people usually are interested in a relationship,so why not start there.

hi again,
robert hand has a good book on interpreting composites for a start.but yes it is very similar to interpreting a individual.you just have to keep in mind it is a merging of two people.i use the moon to symbolize the female or passive partner.saturn symbolizes the male or agressive partner.many use the sun/moon polarity for this.a choose to see the moon as the nature of the relationship in general.
examples;mars/venus conjunction ,in a individual a very attractive loving person.in a composite these people will be deeply emotionaly/sexual compatable.
mercury square uranus can show a person with a bad temper who is arguementative.in a composite these people will be at odds on every subject and have intense arguements.
