This kind of goes along with Belage's post, but can I just say WOW!!! Does anyone else realize that we are on the cusp of a MAJOR shake down in this country? This is really going to change history now. I consider myself to be a moderate democrat, but I've been so upset and so disgusted with the direction this country has been going in in the past few years, and not meaning to offend anyone on here, but I am just ELATED by this! Wish my dad was still alive...he'd be thrilled! I'm a big believer in the two party system, and checks and balances, but since the power has been completely in the hands of the Republicans for so long...there has been NO balance. One party should never control everything, and hopefully this will be a lesson to everyone. This is a BIG deal everyone. Rumsfeld just stepped down...that's a sign. There will be some MAJOR investigations going in the future...hopefully justice will finally prevail here. IP: Logged |

I agree, my boyfriend is furious though...so so very furious....

I've been saying this stuff a lot as of late but not here:why are you okay with just a 2 party system? why can't it be 4?..like canada? or 16...like the netherlands..granted not much might get done. but the dems taking house/senate majority likely won't make to big of a difference. 1. dems and republicans receive funding from the same corporations and lobbyiests. that means they cater to the same people..the small minority at the top. 2. many of the democrats we voted in also voted to go to iraq or for the patriot act. 3. these are the same people who did not stand up for our rights and were bullied by the republican rubber stamp house/senate just weeks ago. People seem to miss those points. not much will change until we start to realize the 3rd parties. third parties are locked out of venues such as the Presidential debates more now than ever. The RNC and DNC didn't let Perot back in after he stirred the mud (which is good) in 1992. They threatened to arrest Nader just for being on the premises to watch the debate in 2000, let alone even participate in it. The stock excuse used by the RNC and DNC is that the third party candidates aren't viable. One could argue just as well that part of the reason they aren't viable is that they are locked out of venues such as nationally televised debates by the RNC and DNC. There should be at least one third party candidate allowed in the presidential debates no matter what, just to stir up the mud and keep the other two parties from doing a rehearsed presentation which isn't a debate anyway. It's difficult to achieve this since we have no way of voting on it. It's already been determined for us by the RNC and DNC. as for the war:
its no coincidence that no country supported us in going to war with Iraq...besides Blair, Britain was against it...France, Germany, etc. we showed a complete disregard for the UN and disgraced our nations reputation on the international scene in the process. I suggest people read "Stuff Happens" by David hare. It’s a perfect example of our administrations complete and utter ineptitude and disregard for anyone against us and painfully simple approaches to complicated matters. the war on Iraq has proven to be a war with no solid evidence, but many innocent deaths. we should have listened to the (at this point wiser) European nations who tend to think things through. we have isolated ourselves and it will take a lot to win back the respect we lost. we are just starting to realize what most of Europe and the world has known for 6 years, when there were outcries about bush's first election.
