I'm reading here: http://www.dominantstar.com/astro02.htm

The introduction is here: http://www.dominantstar.com/as_intro.htm

I'd cut and paste it all, but it would seem more overwhelming that way than it does on it's own page.

I'd like opinions on my least aspected planets:

I think Mars and Jupiter would be good candidates, but I'm not exactly sure which aspects to include in the equation.

Secondly, if you have an opinion on the subject matter I'd be interested to hear it. Do you agree that the least aspected planet represents who we are at a core level? Do you agree that the most aspected planets must find their true expression through the least aspected planets?

I encourage you to read some of the profiles he goes through, particularly if you know something about the person he's profiling. I looked at the Jim Morrison one, and it was pretty interesting.

Would I be right to only consider aspects from other major planets?

It looks like your Mars and Jupiter are unaspected. Noel Tyl refers to that as peregrine. I have Uranus peregrine myself.

Bil Tierney's book, DYNAMICS OF ASPECT ANALYSIS has good information on unaspected planets. I guess I can type out the stuff and post later on.

peregrination

(Updated November 30, as promised)

A recent inquiry into the discussion Forum of this website focused on peregrination. In my reply, I spoke how -after some 30 years of study and observation- I have started to push the envelope, so to speak, about peregrination, to give us an analytical tool and concomitant guidelines that make it easier and faster to get to the core. I have pushed beyond the Classical guidelines of a planet in rulership, exaltation, fall, detriment, etc. as qualification of the planet analytically, especially when that planet is not in Ptolemaic aspect with another planet (conjunction, sextile, square, trine, or opposition). The earlier nuances were desperately needed by astrologers to enrich analyses (as were "Parts"). In William Lilly's time (1602-1681), complex point systems were devised to evaluate dignity and debility. The system is not inscrutable; it is just complex and cumbersome.

Do we still need this system of dignities and debilitations? We do have the outer planets now, and a deep psychological understanding of behavioral archetypes developed throughout this last century. I suggest strongly that we do not gain much analytical benefit for the Classical struggle involved with measuring essential dignities and indignities.

My suggestion -and, My Goodness!, has this been tested!!!- is simply that an unaspected planet (no Ptolemaic aspect) can be called peregrine, regardless of dignity or indignity, and that such a planet, in its need-behavior symbolism, will tend to run away with horoscope analysis, i.e., behavioral manifestation. There is no doubt about this observation.

I have covered this subject throughout the thousand-page Synthesis & Counseling in Astrology -The Professional Manual, but especially on pages 155-190.

We know that "peregrine" comes from the Latin, meaning "across, through, or beyond the border." Our word "pilgrim" derives similarly from the Latin "pelegrinus," and alternative form of "peregrinus." The meaning sense is being foreign, alien. In the sense of our discussion of its import to analysis, think of a king in a foreign land. If he has no attachments in the foreign land, if no one there knows he is there, his ego and self-respect can't take it! He has to make some noise to attract attention, of course! --This is what a peregrine planet 'does:' its symbolism drives itself into prominence in the life reality of the individual.

UNASPECTED PLANETS

SYMBOLIC MANIFESTATIONS

Sun

Horoscope is permeated by the life energy significance of the Sun; abundant energy sometimes lacks direction

Moon

Horoscope is permeated by the specific need energies formulated in the symbol of the Moon; can tend toward emotional hypersensitivity

Mercury

Focus on analyzing, diversity, and/or communicating (often talkative)

Venus

Special dimension of creativity is indicated conspicuously; often artistic or musical abilities; sometimes obsessive activity in relationships

Mars

Fierce determination; self preservation; energy looking for release

Jupiter

Enthusiasm looking for a cause or a mission in life; overindulgence; opinionation

Saturn

Tremendous self-control potential; need for structure is often so pronounced that the sense of responsibility becomes distorted

Uranus

Accentuates individualism, desire for recognition for “being different”; “rules were made to be broken”; extreme inventiveness

Neptune

Usually manifests as a dream or an ideal projected through the personality; a sense of confusion, a clouding of the issues represented by Neptune placement; can be religious associations

Pluto

Major dose of empowerment; drive to prominence

Unaspected planets tend to run away with the horoscope, in effect dominating behaviorally in terms of planetary archetype of the unaspected planet. The rest of the planets often follow the peregrine planet’s lead

Glaucus,

Could you clarify your opinion on my least aspected planets? I only ask because you used the term, "unaspected," which I don't really think you mean. Both have aspects.

From astro.com's Personal Portrait I have:

Major aspects
Sun Square Moon 5°42
Sun Square Pluto 0°53
Sun Quincunx Ascendant 2°23
Moon Sextile Mars 2°07
Moon Sextile Neptune 6°29
Moon Conjunction Pluto 4°49
Moon Trine Ascendant 3°18
Mercury Opposition Saturn 1°38
Mercury Sextile Uranus 5°19
Venus Opposition Saturn 5°29
Venus Conjunction Neptune 4°07
Venus Sextile Pluto 5°47
Mars Opposition Ascendant 5°26
Jupiter Quincunx Saturn 0°58
Jupiter Square Uranus 5°58
Neptune Sextile Pluto 1°40
Neptune Opposition Ascendant 3°10
Pluto Trine Ascendant 1°30

I counted up aspects from here, which only appear to have an orb up to 6 degrees, and got:

Sun - 3 (aspects)
Moon - 5
Merc - 2 (though a 7 degree orb would allow for conjunction with Venus)
Venus - 3
Mars - 2 (Including an opposition to the Ascendant.)
Jupiter - 2 (Including a quincunx)
Neptune - 4
Pluto - 5

What aspects would you exclude?

unaspected planets are planets that have no Ptolemaic aspects(conjunction, opposition, trine, square, sextile) with other planets.

Quincunx is not a Ptolemaic aspect. Ptolemaic Aspects are referred to as Major Aspects. Ptolemy used whole sign aspects. He didn't use orbs. He didn't use the semisextile and quincunx which are inconjuncts.

Your Mars in 6th has no aspects with planets, and so your Mars is definitely unaspected. aspects to angles don't count. However, aspects to angles can be an outlet to release the energy. Your Mars oppose Ascendant. Ascendant is an outlet to release your Mars energy. So is your 6th house.

My Uranus has no ptolemaic aspects with any planet in my chart, and so it's definitely unaspected. However,Uranus trines my Midheaven. Midheaven is an outlet for my Uranus energy. Uranus also disposits my Mars in Aquarius in 6th. So my Uranus also has an outlet to release its energy through Mars in 6th house...not really a good placement...its manifested as job, health instability for me as well as a person who is poor with daily routine. That fits right in with my learning disabilities. Of course 2nd house is an outlet too.

My girlfriend's Venus in 2nd has no ptolemaic aspects to planets, and so her Venus is unaspected. Her Venus sextiles Ascendant. Ascendant and 2nd house are outlets for her Venus energy.

your Jupiter square Uranus. Some astrologers actually use no more than orb of 5 degrees....especially cosmobiologists who don't use the soft aspects. Robert Hand recommended an orb of 5 degree orb in his book,HOROSCOPE SYMBOLS. Orbs that astrologers use vary. If you can feel it,well..count it as an aspect.

page 111 of HOROSCOPE SYMBOLS
Conjunction - 5
Opposition - 5
Trine - 5
Square - 5
Sextile - 3
Semisquare - 1.5
Sesquiquadrate - 1.5
Semisextile - 1.5
Quincunx - 1.5
Quintile - 1.5
Biquintile - 1.5
22.5 Multiples not covered above - .5
all others - 1 or less

page 112 of HORSCOPE SYMBOLS.
Work by Goeffrey Dean of Australia has confirmed the 5 degree orb. Using a questionnaire in which people with various orbs were asked whether they could identify trait descriptions of aspects in themselves, he queried a fairly large sample and found that most of the effects that one would associate with a given major aspect disappeared when the aspect was more than 5 degree from exact. Other authors report similar findings. Whatever orb you settle on, I think it safe to say that a very close aspect will show stronger effect than one near the edge of orb.

the orbs suggested in Table 2 are only intended as guidelines. There are several cases in which they can be safely stretched.

Exceptions:
1. When there are few tight orbs in the chart.
2. when the aspect involves a harmonic syndrome
3.when an aspect is part of a midpoint configuration.

I would also add if they are also in declination
for instance Sun conjunct Neptune and Sun parallel Neptune would be an eclipse

Moon oppose Uranus and Moon contraparallel Uranus would be an eclipse

Sun trine Pluto and Sun contraparallel Pluto would be a bilevel

a planet in aspect other than conjunction, opposition to another planet and they are also in declination would be a bilevel.

my girlfriend and I have Moon trine Moon, and they also parallel.....that's a bilevel.

Thanks for the clarification.

My Mars has one sextile to the Moon. I thought it might have been an issue with the chart I posted (since the lines weren't clearly going to Mars and Jupiter).

It's interesting, because one of Jupiter's aspects goes away along with one of Mars, so both are singly aspected. Would both share being my least aspected, or would we give the title to the one with the worst aspect orb-wise (which is Jupiter)? Either way, according to this guy's principles these should be my least aspected planets.

oh yeah...I overlooked that. Those charts are hard to read.

I pretty much look at charts with solar fire.

unaspected planets by themselves can be powerful planets. I have no idea about the least aspects that involved with at least 1 or few aspects.

I know my unaspected Uranus is powerful. It has really manifested bigtime in my life...especially not fitting in,being unusual...just my mixed ethnic background,Dyslexia,Dyspraxia, special education, and mental health misdiagnoses by psychiatrists.......that's all connected to not fitting the norms of society. A lot of people want to be different and so they act that way. I don't want to be different. I always tried to fit in,but I couldn't. I even dress to the point that I can easily blend in with my environment. I was born different, and it sucked for the most part. I have learned to accept it.

You know what's fascinating is that my Mars is currently sitting at the midpoint of transiting Jupiter and Mars.

Transiting Jupiter is at 0 degrees Sag
My Mars is at 27 degrees Scorpio
Transiting Mars is at 24 degrees Scorpio

My least aspected planet(s) are Mercury and Uranus, I believe..Mercury(2nd house) only forms one major aspect and that's a conjunction to Venus.

Uranus (also 2nd house) only forms one major aspect and that's a square to Jupiter (5th house)

though they're not UNaspected...I feel their energy/aspects they form is exceptionally strong in my chart...I feel them stronger than I normally would, or their presence is just much more prevalent

My venus is unaspected, its in gemini too. Air singleton as well. I'm not sure how much power it has in my chart. Seems like its probably very little. Although I'd have to know for sure how it manifests because I'm still not completely sure about that either.

Teaologist,

I would think a 9 degree orb wouldn't count.

Alanabelle, Carl, and Tea,

Here's where you can find out how a "Transcendant" Mercury manifests: http://www.dominantstar.com/tmerc.htm

Alanabelle & Carl,

Here's Uranus: http://www.dominantstar.com/turanus.htm
That's a pretty unique combo. You guys have both the signs he doesn't put in Yin and Yang categories.

Dulce,

Here's Venus: http://www.dominantstar.com/tvenus.htm

do you have (more) sites that talk about relocation? I have done the astro travel on astro.com and a few of the lines in parts of w. europe seemed to be real ideal. northwest france said I may find a love (and I did before I even knew of astro travel) and parts of eastern czech rep and w. germany say I could experience some life changing events.

line in NW France..

More beneficial on the west of the line. (My gf is very close to line if not on it)

Consciously or unconsciously, at this line you are in search of a partner, or completeness of some sort. You feel more socially integrated, identifying more with others, and match your own needs and interests with those of your life partner. Relating to others becomes a central issue.

Special attention is on those individuals who show themselves in a favourable light, such as artists, well-known and influential people. This contact increases your impact on others, but you could run the risk of seeing yourself exclusively through the eyes of others.

In these places you are more in the public eye, you can celebrate successes, and experience the highs and lows of interpersonal relations. Every encounter mirrors your "self", and guides you to the role that is yours to play in the world.

<look for cast on map>

than look at this

Using only the major aspects
I have:
Pluto -- 5 aspects
Jupiter -- 5 aspects
Uranus -- 4 aspects
Venus -- 4 aspects
Neptune -- 3 aspects
Mars, Saturn, Moon and Mercury -- 2 each
Sun -- 1 aspect

Sun it is, then!

I read the article; I like these sun quotes!

Life is or should be an affair of each person, each one of us, getting in touch with the elemental forces of the universe (which is, throughout, a personal universe).
(James Jackson Putnam.)

To make a circle without a compass, try to trace a line always equidistant from the center, but do not think about other forms or about the many people who have traced circles before you. If you kill yourself, you will not make it perfectly round; and in the discrepancy between perfect roundness and your closest approximation to it, you will find your perfect expression. If you work in good faith you will try to make it perfect, but each of your circles, in spite of your improved dexterity in drawing them will always suffer from the same defect. Every one of them will bear your mark. But if, suddenly, you decide to imitate somebody else, you’ll do it worse, and your deception will fool only morons.
(Picasso.)

The man is only half himself; the other half is his expression.
(Emerson.)

Divine am I inside and out, and I make holy whatever I touch or am touched from; / The scent of these arm-pits is aroma finer than prayer, / This head is more than churches or bibles or creeds.
(Walt Whitman, Leaves of Grass.)

That which makes my life good makes my death good also.

Transcendental potential:

Jupiter is said to rule opportunity and good luck because, once activated, its “mind-expanding” function allows us to perceive a wealth of opportunities that may have previously gone unnoticed. By remaining open to such soul-enriching possibilities, we are more likely to engender such experience in our lives. The Jupiter complex helps us to create a worldly role in which the personal soul enacts a wider social or collective significance, especially through pursuing meaningful duties that expand the values of the overall culture.
This is the key to understanding Jupiter’s relationship to figures in the world-at-large who redefine and promulgate what is socially and culturally valuable or who dispense resources from “higher positions” of authority and responsibility. By personifying Jupiter through a “soulful interaction with the world-at-large,” they ennoble the personal soul by broadening its power of expression.
Jupiter’s expansion of soulful values is based on a shared sense of cultural values within the overall society. It is experienced by the social group as “soul issues that unite a common people” (values that unite us and that connect us on a deeper spiritual level). This is expressed by the psychological-anthropological term, kinship libido. When our “libido” or psychic energy is in union or kinship with a broader cultural, social group,5 or when cultural institutions preserve and promulgate such values, then we may speak of the effects of the Jupiter complex, which unites as it expands awareness and meaning within the culture-at-large.6

Keynote phrases for Jupiter:

•Wisdom gained through “increased access to soulful resources.”
•The enactment of a meaningful role that expands the cultural and spiritual values of society.
•Linking personal or interpersonal values to broader ethical and spiritual wisdom, to feelings of collective justice, or to a concern for the larger social order.
•The progression of yin from the interpersonal values of Venus to the shared sense of cultural values within the social aggregate (“soul issues that unite a common people”). Psychologically, this is expressed by the psychological-anthropological term, kinship libido.
•The growth potential in all living and nonliving things.
•The further evolution of yin consciousness in the symbolic solar system.
•In Indian astrology, Jupiter corresponds to the teacher or ‘”guru”: “one who transmits knowledge.”7
•Yin energy expressed as the collective soul.

Transcendental potential:

Mars triggers the appetites that define and propel the self. Our conscious identity is expressed through the ego (Sun), and it then develops in an interpersonal manner, i.e. through dynamic interaction with others and by effecting alterations in the environment that reflect one’s true desires. The Mars location may activate such intrapsychic or spiritual needs, stirring desire to the point that action is the first and immediate result. This may manifest as newfound courage, determination, drive, and the ability to actualize the will. Mars engenders a maturation that in the Sun may remain only a potential idea, spirit, notion, or nascent thought form.
While the Sun riggers planetary energies through certain natal transits, or may “illuminate” the meaning of their symbolism, Mars “fuels” the various planetary principles. Under the Transcendental Mars location, Mars extends the Sun principle from “defining the self” to acquiring the goals of the desirous self. The means of defining a broader social role may now come into sight, as dynamic interpersonal contacts create inroads into larger institutional structures (Jupiter / Saturn) or as interactive accomplishments prove one’s merit and ability to fulfill collective responsibilities (Jupiter/Saturn). And sexual vitality and potency will now properly complement and energize the love experience (Venus).
The conscious integration of Mars prepares the spirit for a complementary experience of soulful qualities (yin). The Martian tendency to maintain separation and affirm personal strength will enable one to withstand the otherwise enervating yin qualities of being yielding and receptive (Moon); of being intimately related with another person (Venus); of the interpersonal soul expanding upon its contact with the cultural or collective soul (Jupiter); and of being merged or dissolved within the anima mundi or world soul (Neptune). The “revolution and liberation of self and soul” symbolized by Uranus and the “maintenance of cognition and communication” symbolized by Mercury each take a toll on the nervous system and the supramaterial aspects of psyche, and an effectively functioning Mars will provide the strength necessary for a healthy functioning of one’s physical and psychic well-being.
Relocation to the Transcendental Mars region will result in experiences that test and challenge one’s courage, fortitude, and strength or that require an intensely focused concentration, stamina, and will power. This location will foster the experience of “living in the moment,” as psychic energy will directly express itself through the drive to obtain the goal of one’s desire. Perhaps as a result of this, energy that was previously lacking a focal point will now manifest in “direct action, “resulting in a more manageable energetic interaction with one’s immediate surroundings.

•The spirit (animus) principle in its forceful individual manifestation.
•The masculine lover, especially in his personification of a virile and potent force.

•Experiences that further discrimination (i.e., consciousness) through acts of separation.
•A “relational function” in which the self interacts with others but maintains a sense of distance or “separation.”
•Biological drives demanding expression in everyday life.
•The urge to actualize desire in the immediate present.
•The drive that thrusts the ego (Sun) into manifest action (Mars).
•Energizing the will (Sun) and directing it upon the environment in an intense, dynamic fashion.
•The urge to express and defend the self.
    •The desire to procreate.
•The urge to possess, ravish, experience, push away, discard.

•Actualizing the self by counterpointing it against one’s surroundings in order to realize, through separation and discrimination, one’s distinctive self-borders (“I am this; I am not that.”)
•The secondary manifestation of yang consciousness (following the Sun) in the symbolic solar system.
•In Indian astrology, Mars rules strength and corresponds to “desires and the animal instinct in man.”7
•The yang energy experienced as the interactive self.

All of my planets are aspected. Most have three 'hits' as well as the fact that most are in a 'T' square pattern. . Saturn @ 13 Sag has only 2 aspects, both squares, to the Moon gulp, and Jupiter; but it also joins a T-square thru an opposition from Jupiter 22 Virgo, to the Moon at 18 Pisces,so I count that as three too. I feel 'challenged' all the time. I have looked at the graphs for most pleasant places. They see me in a retirement home in the Pacific Northwest. My most peaceful place it would appear.
