Even though I am in my late twenties, I prefer alot of movies from the seventies era. Like: 'Being there' 'The Pink Pather' 'Harold and Maude' 'Network' 'Thunderbolt and lightfoot' 'Dirty harry' 'Two Mules for sister Sarah' oh and that one movie where this jeans company goes to far and this fad accident where women are walking around with holes cut out of the butt cheek area of the jeans(because thats the cool style) pretty funny but forgot the name of that movie.

Documentaries, mostly about political things (Outfoxed) or about strong people (Erin Brokovich, North Country). Or educational documentaries! But even then the ones I watch do have an activist slant to them.

Movies that either are, or have the indie film quality, that are quirky or dark, like The Life Aquatic, Eternal Sunshine, Donnie Darko, Broken Flowers. If you took me to the movies now I'd ask you if you wanted to see Little Miss Sunshine.

Some animated movies, I'm a bit of a Pixar fan, and Tim Burton's animated movies. It's probably no surprise we are both Virgos with prominent Pluto/Scorp influences.

I basically like all movie genres ... classics, comedy, drama, romance ... I like them all. The only genre that I'm not particularly fond of is Science fiction. Up until today I haven't seen a single Star Wars movie. For some reason they bore me to death. Some of my favourite movies are "Casablanca", "Breakfast at Tiffany's", "The Graduate, "Frida", "Lost in Translation", "Crash", "Forrest Gump", "Seven", "Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind", "The Sixth Sense", "Legends of the Fall", "A Beautiful Mind", "Lord of the Rings", "Braveheart", "The Silence of the Lambs", "Le fabuleux destin d'Amelie Poulain", ... there are too many to name them all. As far as actors and actresses go: I like Tom Hanks, Robert De Niro, Matt Damon, Gwyneth Paltrow, Sandra Bullock, Kate Winslet and Meg Ryan.

Fiction-Fantasy, Fairy Tale type is my absolute fav (i.e. Labrynth, Everafter, Legend, and the huge list goes on...)

Horror movies are just great, especially old ones with sweet low budget special effects!! The Hellraiser series of flicks are an all time fav.
Psychological trippiness is also neat (i.e. Memento, Silence of the Lambs, Seven)

I also like spiritual type documentaries (i.e. The Secret, What the Bleep Do We Know?)

I like a ton of different genres, you should see my collection!!!

I love movies hehe!

I have a wide range of movies I like..doesn't matter what genre.

Let me say that Borat was the funniest movie I've seen in a long time...mostly because it was satirical. Anything with political satire in it is very funny to me.(Mars square uranus loves anything that pushes the envelope in a funny way)
The latest movie I've watch on PPV was the one on Cassanova...I thought that was good.
Count Of Monte Cristo...I loved it!
Pirates of the Caribbean parts one and two were good! The Patriot was awesome too.
There's alot of Historical Fiction Movies that I like because they're very Romantic in my kind of way as opposed to the Lifetime-sappy kind of way.(Hmmm, Sun in Cancer/7th house maybe, or mercury in cancer opposite neptune in cap)

The comedies I really like are EuroTrip and Deuce Bigalo-European Gigalo. I cracked up at both of those movies. Is this Jupiter in the 5th

I like fantasy type shows like Xena The Warrior Princess....I was hooked on that. I still love the movie Aladdin and me and my cappy friend admitted Junior Year that we thought he was hott...even though he was in Cartoon. But my piscean friend told me a story of how she saw him in Disney World once with her family as a 13 yr old and the guy had the best resemblance to Aladdin ever...except when he opened his mouth. A southern accent came out....kinda ruined it for her! Oh wow, I've went on a tangent...sorry about that!
(I may like these show because of the combo of my mars in aries with my moon trine neptune)

Sun in cancer/7th
Moon in virgo/8th
Asc in Cap
merc in cancer/6th
venus in gem/5th

The Ten Commandments, Cyrano De Bergerac, Hero etc - period pieces.

Generally, I dislike films. I'm sure I will offend many and say that I find films in general a poor artform. What do you think creates my general dislike of films?

It's a good question, 23?? I don't know! But astro aside... do you think that making movies are a poor/silly attempt at replicating human events? Or maybe yer more of a book person?
I think I can honestly say I watch for two main reasons: (1) to live vicariously through characters, and (2) sheer entertainment

love all types except action and sci-fi (which r ok, i guess, just dont find them 'gripping' ) or horror. can't, CANT watch even suspense/thrillers, let alone horror. to give an example, even basic instinct was difficult for me to watch bcoz of the suspense...my friends reached the edge of their patience bcoz i kept running out of the room, then popping back in a few minutes later and asking them 'wht happened???' they vowed never to watch any thriller with me again

Sun/venus- cappy, moon-gem, asc cancer, mars/merc in aqua, uranus/neptune in 5th

I also like most movie genres. My 5th house (Virgo) Moon just loves being entertained. If I had to choose ultimate favorites, it would be the edgy, smart, concept, art films like:

    Trainspotting
    Fight Club
Lock, Stock, and Two Smoking Barrels
    Clockwork Orange

Close behind that would be all the art/indie/foreign films:

    Amelie
    Life is Beautiful
    Shine
    Tim Burton films
    Four Rooms
    French Twist
    I Huckabees
    Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon
    Iron Monkey

But I also like romantic comedies, Jackie Chan flicks, action movies, and some dramas.

I'm not a big fan of horror, though. I've never had the bad experiences with it that some people have. They just don't do anything for me.

Capricorn Sun and Jupiter in the 8th
Virgo Moon in the 5th
Sagittarius Mercury, Venus, and Neptune in the 7th
Scorpio Mars in the 6th
Libra Pluto in the 5th
Libra Uranus in the 6th
Gemini Saturn in the 1st

Tea - I find most films boring and predictable. I find most Hollywood films in particular the same run of the mill filled with sex and violence. Just too predictable, eg you know at the start of the film who will be who's love interest etc. I am very much a book person, in pretty much all cases the book is way better than the film. A book can capture emotions, describe things, film them out and give them a sense of perspective. When it gets transferred to film, it then becomes a fleeting moment.

Plus I think there is a lot of w**** that surrounds film. There's a lot of obscurist w*****s out there that carry on about films and this angle, this shot, what happened here etc. I hate it, some jerk has to talk about it to me at a party. So really the only reason why I watch films is to be in the know. Still, that doesn't mean all fims are bad, just 96.59% of them are.

PS I hate Amelie. How in the hell can people find her cute when she seems to me to be some deranged stalker.

PPS I also dislike sci-fi, this is coming from an Aqu sun/merc squ ura

PPPS I do think though that Cate Blanchett is a worthy talent.

PPPPS Sorry for cutting sick

Some of my favorites, memorable ones that I draw from, have been:

Matchpoint, Squid and the Whale, Monster's Ball, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Groundhog Day (will it watch this one over, and over, and over and....), My Girl, Malena, basically most Italian films, Wow can the Italians tell stories. Loved, All installments of the Lord of the Rings.

Basically, in this class I took, the instructor ascertained that I'm into coming of age stories. Just people coming of age. Even adults.

Well these threads are certainly a voyage of self-discovery for me! Like my tastes in the music thread, my taste in movies is diverse... BUT I focus on high-quality (my Taurean, Venusian sensibilities) rather than any old Hollywood mass-market stuff. My favourite of all is anything international, especially European art film from the 1960s. I am a big fan of the French New Wave, especially Jean-Luc Godard for his aesthetic innovation and his politically-charged ideas and philosophies. Anything that be analysed on a deep level by film theory or philosophy, especially in the area of psychoanalysis, phenomenology, or political theory...

I love documentaries... I like comedy but I prefer TV shows in this genre rather than movies generally, I enjoy horror movies but they creep me out too much (the after-effects are not good... my Mars in Pisces and Pluto trine Neptune in the 12th house gives me a seriously overactive imagination)... not a big fan of epics usually because I find them hard to concentrate on for a long period of time... I like what could be could 'alternative' films, the groundbreakers in New Hollywood in the late 60s and in the 70s, like 'Bonnie & Clyde'.

In fact I love road movies, the ones about couples who go on crime sprees on the road. Bonnie & Clyde, Badlands, Vanishing Point although it's about one guy not a couple, Pierrot le Fou.

Rock music documentaries.

For some reason I really enjoy 1980s high school movies like The Breakfast Club, Pretty In Pink, etc, even though they are mainstream teenybopper stuff.

Unusual quirky movies like 'Heavenly Creatures' by Peter Jackson.

And anything with Brigitte Bardot in it because she's my idol. Or Keanu Reeves, because he's hot.

I hate Westerns.

I think the big players here are my Sagittarius ascendant (like my taste in music and clothes it gives me a varied taste and I lean towards foreign and philosophical films - another example would be Stalker by Tarkovsky, but in general I find his films to be too slow and long for me), sun opposite Uranus (unusual quirky tastes), Scorpio on the cusp of my 12th and Scorpio moon loves to analyse and find the hidden meanings... the crime road movie thing, I don't know, that could be a combination of Sag ascendant and sun opposite Uranus (travel + rebellion), and Taurus sun for a Venusian aesthetic appreciation (again, opposite Uranus means I have a taste for the quirky and unusual in this area).

As for the 1980s teenybopper movies, I don't think I have an astrological explanation for this... I just like them.

Oh I forgot to mention David Lynch... definitely a 12th house Scorpio thing going on there for me. Stanley Kubrick is amazing... I liked Danny Boyle for a while but I thought he lost his edge right after Trainspotting.

Oh and although everything else would point towards me liking religious-themed films, they creep me out if they are too dark and creepy and I can't watch them because of the after-effects. Therefore, religious-themed horrors are a no-go area for me, no matter how much my Sag ascendant and Scorpio moon/Scorpio 12th cusp are drawn to them. Otherwise the Mars in Pisces and Pluto trine Neptune in the 12th over-imagination will always win out and get me in the end.

23: Well, I def see what you're saying about film snobbery. Never mind that the dude's name is Hitchcock, but for my analysis class, my prof kept interpreting every single vertical/horizontal object as a phallic symbol (i.e. a cigar, a skyscraper, and like, hell I *dunno*, a guy in a pinstripe suit). So um, if you tried to submit a paper that argued against his lecture, you'd get it back full of red ink.

I'm SUCH a movie freak. I love just about every genre, although sometimes action and science fiction can bore me as well.

Comedies, dramas, horror...I have waaaay too many favorites to list, but I tend to have a sweet affection for character studies - films that are more about the "people" than the events. Ordinary People, American Beauty, American History X, Pappillon, Who's Afraid of Virginia Wolfe...those types. Classic comedies like Shampoo, Arthur, and Annie Hall are some other favorites as well as slapstick like There's Something About Mary or Meet the Parents/Fockers.

I'm with HD on Martin Scorsese...he is incapable of making a bad film. His organized crime oriented genre generally appeals to me anyway. I have a weird "thing" for violent, organized crime movies. Scarface, The Godfather, Casino, Goodfellas, The Departed...all of those. I'd also loop Tarantino movies into this category as well. Pulp Fiction, Reservoir Dogs, and the Kill Bill movies are three of my all time favorites. You can't beat Tarantino's imagination and dark humor. Vietnam flicks appeal to me too for some reason...probably due to my affection for the 60's & 70's.

Can't leave out my love for flicks with strong sexual content either. Intense, raw sexuality is what I go for...when it just oozes off the screen. The hotter the better! Perhaps it's due to my moon in the 8th... Adrian Lyne is my all time favorite director. The way he shoots his films is so seductive, and so mysterious. His films remind me a lot of Jack Vettriano's paintings...9 1/2 Weeks, Fatal Attraction, Indecent Proposal, Lolita, Unfaithful...love, love, LOVE them. I also adore the strong femme fatale films like Basic Instinct, Disclosure, and Damage...

Sun - Cap 6th
Moon - Pis 8th
Merc - Sag 5th
Venus - Sco 5th
Mars - Cap 6th
