Since much of the time Capricorn gets a bad rap in astrology, let's begin by celebrating Capricorn's wonderful qualities. Got goals? Got focus? Got Capricorn. Got drive? Got stamina? Got accomplishment? Got Capricorn. Okay we all know about these qualities, but here's a list you might not automatically come up with. Got loyalty, courage, commitment, a huge heart, deep caring for others, a desire to teach, uplift and inspire? Now you've got the totality of Capricorn.

This is the best New Moon for setting goals, initiating projects, and making a serious commitment to achieve. (Oh and lucky us, this year, the New Moon in Capricorn comes just as you are working on those New Year's resolutions!) With Mars (action) in Capricorn, it will be mighty tempting to get right on the stick and put action behind your intentions. So let me remind you all that the two weeks after the New Moon, as the Moon waxes to full, is the optimal time to build the energy of your intentions. Action is best begun on the Full Moon. So slowing down and being deliberate is not only appropriate, but it is the Capricorn way. For those of you who have trouble with follow-through, this is the New Moon to gain focus and work on building real stamina. Believe me, with concerted focus and effort, you might find you are a whole lot stronger and more responsible than you think! Mars will help here as well.

In this vein, let's indulge ourselves in a Saturnian/Capricornian reality check. Gaia has been a harsh parent as of late. Global warming is alive and threatening everything we know. And yet humanity seems more lost than ever in its pursuit of class, race, and ethnic warfare. Our mindlessness, carelessness and heartlessness is killing us; some more slowly than others. And if that's not enough of a reality check, try this: I'd wager that most readers of the Moon Messages have shelter, food, family, and a world of opportunity waiting outside their doorstep. So guys, get a grip, stop complaining, and recognize how fortunate we are to be alive, intact, and capable of contributing to our world. Even the surgeon I know who gets "an intuitive hit" each New Year regarding the theme of the year claims 2007 is all about reality. He told me this with a big smile. I returned the grin and said, "I love reality!" Well, we better all love reality on this New Moon, with the Sun and Moon making an inconjunction to Saturn in Leo, frustrating even the heartiest of egoic fantasies of greatness.

So before I go any deeper into Capricorn land, let me assuage your fear with the fact that on this New Moon we get to enjoy a lovely group of planets in visionary Aquarius: Mercury (mind), Chiron (seer), Neptune (transcendence), and Venus (love). WOW! This means that when you set your goals with a good dose of common sense, the part of you that sees beyond 'what is' will be functioning at a very high volume inside your head and heart. You will want to set boundaries and limits on your goals and this voice will be screaming, "Dream, wish, soar, look beyond your limits!" And lest you think that is all, Jupiter and Pluto dancing around in Sagittarius will add a heaping helping of faith and optimism to any goal you might conjure up in your ritual work. So be mindful of the goals you set on this night.

Okay, back to Capricorn-land! Ever wonder why Capricorn's animal symbol is the mountain goat? I once saw a group of mountain goats on a climb in the Everest region of Nepal. The way up was steep, but the summit promised a wonderful view of Tibet. I watched a group of goats (already high above me) calmly and fearlessly walk an almost vertical hillside that I was doing my best to avoid. They seemed to function from a belief that no path is too steep, no height too lofty to attain, there is nothing to fear. That was their bottom line. Capricorn's incredible ability to achieve comes from hanging in for long haul and not giving up, even if the going gets tough… and neither should you!

Most astrologers associate Saturn, Capricorn's ruler, with fear. I contemplate the things I fear in my life and wonder at their power, which seems so insignificant in the face of the incredible horrors that so many on our planet face daily in war zones and poverty-stricken areas. In right measure, fear can actually be a great motivator. Capricorn is the sign which best epitomizes the ability to recognize fear for what it is, move through it, and attain success because of it, not in spite of it. Use this New Moon ritual to acknowledge your fears, and then do some work on reframing your relationship to fear. Make fear a helpmate. Think of it as a big adrenaline rush or just a big push to get you moving on the road to success. In many ways, with respect to earthly experience, Capricorn is the most evolved of the twelve signs. Where Aquarius and Pisces prefer idealistic realms and transcendence, Capricorn insists on nothing less than the "full body" experience of life. No excuses: JUST DO IT!

Here is another secret of Capricorn achievement: work with what you got and don't get lost in dreams of what you wish you had. I know many of you in Silicon Valley (and probably lots of other places) are probably doing the work of three, and struggling to get it done with a fewer resources. This is a great day to gather your staff for a working lunch focused on growth through new ideas. The planets in Aquarius and Sagittarius will make this lunch more than a pep rally. Get real, but do talk openly about the team's vision for the future. Brainstorm about new goals, new ideas, and how to help make each person in the group successful. Write down what actions you must take, in what order, to make the team's goals a reality. Then commit to following these steps no matter how long it takes; no matter how hard it may be. Patience, fortitude, and commitment, are the winning strategies of Capricorn.

If you are among the unemployed in this country, you too can benefit from creating a New Moon ritual to get back to work. Capricorn defines itself by the work it does, and the truth is we all feel better when we are self-sufficient. Capricorn is a realist and that is the key to making this kind of ritual really work. With Sun and Moon inconjunct Saturn in Leo, reality is the ticket to success on this New Moon. Don't ask for that dream job you'll never get. Focus your ritual on obtaining work you can get now, that will be the right next step to making that dream job a reality in your future.

Our culture has a funny relationship with creativity and success. Many of us are told that we can't make a living doing what we love. The truth is we can, if we are willing to make the sacrifices that are necessary to follow a path that is less chosen. Success in creative or spiritual endeavors is achieved by those who believe in themselves and work hard at what they love every day. Though our media makes it seem like there are many overnight success stories, when you look deeper into these lives, there is always a long-held dream and a lot of hard work. So let go of the need for instant gratification and overnight success. There is no free lunch and no easy way out. Capricorn is the sign that understands all too well that real success happens though sustained effort.

It is true that Capricorn can be risk-averse, due to its Saturnian attachment to security and traditional methods. But on this New Moon, Venus (creativity) conjoining Neptune (loosening attachments) in Aquarius (inventiveness, originality) could be enough to allow some deeper questioning about what one actually needs to achieve financial security. Of course Moon, Sun and Mars (action) in Capricorn are good for setting financial goals and taking action to reign in over-spending. This is the New Moon to create a budget and a commitment to adhering to it. Capricorn spends conservatively, judiciously and preferably not at all; which is impossible since we all need a roof over our head and food. So what kind of a ritual would be good for this? A ritual of mindful awareness. Sit down and think carefully about what happens to your brain when you shop. Do you zone out when you pay for things? If you do, this is the New Moon to commit yourself to total awareness while shopping and buying. Ask yourself do I really need this? What other ways could I use this money I am about to spend? Can I put this money away for my future instead of spending it now? You can easily become wealthier by spending mindfully. Think of it as the Zen of buying or NOT buying!

Finally, I would ask each of you to contemplate the reality that we must start to love and care for each other, not just in times of crisis, but for all time. The greed, violence and alienation which has become a way of life for much of the world, is in reality, a sure path to death. We must wake up, or the remaining years of Uranus in Pisces and Neptune in Aquarius will continue to bring destruction rather than enlightenment. The greatest Gurus were all Capricorns. This is the New Moon to commit yourself to becoming responsible for your own enlightenment and the enlightenment of all other sentient beings on this planet. Only Capricorn has the stamina to maintain this kind of commitment.

My theme for 2007 is love. Deep inside I can feel the waves of love rising steadily. Where there has been turning inward, there is now reaching out, and being met with love. This is reality; one needs only to open to it.

Pixie, what year was your brother born? I didn't know you had a Cappy Moon. I might have my Lunar Return too; have to check the degrees.

I hadn't realized it was so close to my natal moon, you're always helping me to realize these important things!
I wonder what that means to me.. sounds good!

My hubby's isn't exact, but it's somewhat close.. and it's in his first house. That bodes well as well, with the themes right now.
Sunshine.. My brother was born in '75. Yep, I have a Cappy Moon, my mom is a Cappy ( with a scorpio moon)and my bro is a Cappy.
Here's another neat thing.. my bro has Aries rising and Moon, my dad is a Scorpio ( like me) with LIBRA rising and Moon.
All these similarities and opposites.

That's so neat that you & your hubby share the Cappy Moon; you must be matched well emotionally. You must get along amazingly well with your brother & your mother too then!

Your bro's a couple years older than me then... I was a '77 baby... *wondering if I'm getting to an age where I ought to start keeping me age a secret*

The March Full Moon will be in Virgo; so if your little one comes then, he'll be a Pisces Sun, Virgo Moon - OMG.. just like my love!! He'll be a cool little fella, I can tell ya that right away! You're going to have girls lining up at your door in a few years...

I wonder how he'll fare as the third child, with the Piscean Sun. They're typically very spiritual & sacrificing, but you know what they say about the baby in the family - tough as nails, street-smart!! You'll have to report back to us on how it goes!!

It says this one is about keeping Faith, that "This New Moon in Capricorn Ritual is to help us learn more about our selves and what we want out of life. Developing our own personal faith will help to sustain us while we are evolving and becoming the person we wish to be. It will enable us to maintain important personal values while eliminating worn out beliefs that hinder our growth."

One thing you could do, is see what house the new Moon is transiting in your chart, and meditate on affirmations related to positive changes you'd like to have happen in that area of your life. It has helped me before, and it might help you too...
