I have Leo Moon and Leo rising, but no Leo hair! It is stick-straight and jet-black.

Rising signs are the initial nuances to the physical appearance and well as some characteristic psychological motivation and so on; the sign, decanate, faces, and the duads help as well as planetary conjuctions to it, the closer of such the more refined and prominent the influence.

Some characteristic to signs on appearance:

Aries Rising - Taller, lankier, head prominent, usually bent or stooped a
little, hair may have a reddish or russet tint to it.

Taurus Rising - Average to shorter height, thicker neck usually, attractive appearance often, medium to darker hair, often overweight even if mildly so.

Gemini Rising - Taller then average, dark wavy hair though sometimes straighter, grey or blue eyes often, prominent upper body and or arms,
generally strong or wispy-type not usually overweight, prominent nose sometimes.

Cancer Rising - Shorter height, sometimes lighter reddish hair, fair complexion, softer appearance, tendency to being stocky or overweight, hair may be wavy, eyes especially have a softer look to them.

Leo Rising - Prominent height, though shorter physically than what they seem, wavy or curling hair darker in color, focused and intentful eyes, strong build usually, often a proud or regal bearing, not often timid nor shy nor rarely insignificant.

Capricorn Rising - Medium to shorter height but some times taller, thinner on average, bones are prominently smaller, hair is often medium to dark though lighter shades still possible, austure or reserved bearing seeming to be more concerned about what actions are done, not inhibited overall but even stronger for it, looks older in youth and younger in old age, straighter hair, often very condifent bearing and outward expression which shows in eyes.

Aquarius Rising - Lighter hair, strong expressiveness of bearing but softer at times, very sociable outlook, dark hair possible but not as common, quieter but stronger bearing when in certain company. taller height often considered the tallest sign next to Gemini, eyes are excitable and often restless, average to attractive appearance but something lingers about them.

The Rising sign is a starting point for the physical description. But there are many things that modify it. Just by way of examples, I will refer to the factor of height. But the same principle goes with type of hair, eyes, facial structure, you name it.

A. Non-astrological influences
1. Genetics. If you come from a family of tall people, average size of the men being 6'9", and you have a rising sign, such as Leo, that tends to taller people, you will probably be one of the taller members of your tall family. On the other hand, if you come from a family that is made of of shorter people (like my own. I'm only 5'4", my mother was 4'11"), and you have a tall rising sign, you will be one of the taller people in your family...but you will never be 'tall' as compared to the general populace. Both of my daughters have Leo Rising, and they are both short...but taller than the other women in my family.

I am new and just learning.What is the rising sign? is that the same thing than the ascendant? *uh oh*
