Hi

I'm very new to astrology (learning though!), so I was hoping an expert could help me out here.

My dad is a Leo, but isn't very Leo-like. He's incredibly shy, for one thing. He doesn't like being around people much at all. He does care for people though. He's a doctor, and a very smart man, but he's 5 or 10 years away from retirement and he's VERY stressed out from work. He's very easily worn out by routine, but he always toughs it out, never cuts himself any slack, but then he's incredibly lethargic and whiny about it when he gets home. Still, he doesn't let anyone take over. He's a pianist, and piano is his hobby that gets him away from his stress. But if he has a deep side to him, I've never seen it. I'm a musician too and I don't get any musician-vibes from him, so I just take his word for it that music means a lot to him. He's very happily married to a cancer, my mom. He cares a lot about me (a Capricorn). But neither me or my mom can help him with his constant self-pity and neverending stress. It's actually quite annoying for us.

So here is his chart:

Does anything in there explain any of this?

Thanks!!!

I need to warn you that you've gotten on my bad side already. I'm a musician, and I'm a lot older than you (I suspect). I have a lot experience with musicians, and they come in all sorts. There's no "type" to musicians. So whatever you think makes you an expert on discerning who is and isn't really a musican, GET OVER IT. This is something that it's simply not your business to judge. A personal calling of any sort, be it music or anything else, is just that - personal. Just because you don't get it, even if this is your father, doesn't mean it's not real or substantial, or "deep" as you put it.

Your father has a definite sensitive, aesthetic and creative nature about him. Taurus moon is a Venusian moon and it's trine his Venus in Virgo. Venus rules aesthetic sense, artistic intuition, and love of beauty. Anyone with a Venusian placement (a planet in Taurus or Libra, the signs ruled by Venus) in harmonious aspect with their natal venus, like your father, is very likely either going to be artistic or have a deep love for the arts.

Your father's Venus is in his 10th house - this is a very common placement for venus for people who pursue career that require them to use their creativity. His Venus is in Virgo, which rules health and service, so no srupirse your father's a doctor. I don't know what kind of doctor he is, but it's likely the part of his job he enjoys the most is when he can be creative as well as be at service to others.

His moon is in the 6th huse, which is ruled by Virgo- so that house also deals with health and service. However, personal planets like the moon in the 6th tends to get overwhelmed and stressed very easily. Virgo is ruled by Mercury, which is associated with the nervous system. People with strong Mercurial energy in their chart - like your father, with a 6th house placement and three planets in Virgo (including Mercury itself) - tend to be nervous, very sensitive people who needto learn to pace themselves and find healthy outlets for their nervous energy, like exercise or creative expression.

Creative expression is often very important to Mercurial types, because Mercury rules communciation and language, and is associated with inspiration through mental stimulation. Seeing music is a language and form of communication as well as an art form, it's easy to see how someone who has both strong Mercurial (planets Virgo and 6th house) and Venusian (Taurus moon and Venus in the 10th house) energy would be drawn to music. I suspect music means a lot to your father, far more than a mere avocational from his stressful job. It's probably a whole other world for him, where he can expression emotions and feeling he can't express in more direct, mundane ways.

As for his whining and complaining, those Virgo planets, Taurus moon in the 6th house and Cancer Mars in the 8th house might be behind that. On an emotional level, he may not feel that he's very well understood by those around him, and it's likely he is very stressed by his job. He needs a way to vent that emotional tension, especially since he has a Virgo Mercury, which doesn't handle strtess well and needs ot be able to talk about. He's looking for sympathy and a chance to just release that stress. Music is one way; whining is another. Apparently music has been more constructive for him than whining.

I doubt he'll stop whining anytime soon. Just try to be patient and sympathetic. I don't think he intends to be burdedn on other people - he probably just wants to know people care.

firefly,

Two things to add on:

- Since he has North node (future goals) focused in the 5th house (self-expression, also performing arts) and Leo (self-expression, also performing arts) modifying Sun (self-expression, also performing arts), being a musical performer is VERY important to him.

- Since he has most of his planets in the top right of his chart, he uses his relationships with others to do things for them in the outer world. This indicates he has difficulty doing things for himself and always feels he has to be doing for others.

To underline Nymph's point, with Mars (being, also action) sextile (energy goes easily with) Saturn (duty, also career) conjunct (energy is combined with) Midheaven (outer world), he is VERY active at building his career in the outer world.

Charting and agreeing,

Tim

Gemini Nymph - All I was saying is that I personally don't detect his artistic side, I'm not denying that it's there. My point is that he doesn't make his depth obvious to others. You're getting on my bad side too because you've judged me on my age. I know I have plenty of learning left to do, but I'm by no means immature, and I bet my life has taught me a lot that you don't know just as yours has taught you a lot that I don't know. And I know a whole lot of musicians, too.

I really appreciate your help despite your judgement of me. That was a very nice thing to do, so thank you.

Tim - Thank you too.

I am Leo with Ascendant in Scorpio, the same as your father and I am 10 years younger. And with Venus in Virgo in 10th house. My Mars is in Virgo, your father's is in Cancer.

As I see what caused such his behavior was his ruler Mars in Cancer, in 8th house. Very, very bad combination. Cancer is a sign where Mars has nothing good to do. And on the other side, 8th house is where Mars is extremely strong. But if it is weak how it can be strong? Only your father can feel that. It is extremely difficult to bear.
He feels a fear, cowardice, he tries to kill his kindness. He becomes to believe that his family, his home don't need him, even maybe that hates him...
He should know, should be aware, he is strong only when he protect his family... and that the family needs him...

If he only could find a channel for his huge energy and strength (Leo/Scorpio) in a right way! It is so close to see and to understand: the channel is - love, but whether he will see that?
The Mercury Mars sextile could mean medicine but maybe he could write a book one day or do some other creative work.

His Moon is very close to Descendent, I use to count it as it is not in 6th house but on Descendent. I am not sure that I am right in that, it is something I have heard from an astrologer long ago. That Moon represents his wife, your mother (just cancer). But his Moon is in square (bad aspect) with his Sun. And Also, his Venus (a ruler of his house of marriage) is in Virgo in 10th house and in bad aspect (square) with Uranus. Unfortunately, it is so (8 degrees is the difference).
Then, I am afraid that there can be something suddenly regarding their marriage - maybe it could break up.
If we consider the Moon is in 6th house, yes, that is about health, but that possition can bring very strong depressions and strong inner unrest. I think in that case he should leave his job and go somewhere near nature, in countriside...

I think if his job doesn't bring a peace to him he should leave it too, it could be a way that he get his inner peace. Money is nothing in comparison to that.

From my personal experiance I know very well how huge energy lies in Leo/Scorpio and how that combination needs a righ channel for its strenth. It seems as his enourmous strenght wants to destroy himself.
Oh, how hard on myself I was during my life...

Personally, I expect a huge and completely life change this year and I hope to find a way-out from my terrible life difficulties. I expect that I will be born again, I could say: as a new person. I even had a dream my mother (she died few years ago) in her old ages have to give birth. Maybe your father should be born again too. I think it is the most important that he keeps his inner health and peace. Try not to talk too much with him, but to show your love to him, to show him that you need his help. Also, maybe you can try to travel together with him somewhere in countryside that he can have a rest...
Please remember me your father.

Wow.

All I was going to say was that I am a Leo, and I find it excrusiating to show my creative expressions to other people. I paint, but hide my work. I will rarely show it even to my closest family. I have Saturn in the 5th house, and nothing is good enough for showing off. It sucks, let me tell you. I have 4 personal planets in Leo (sun, merc, mars, venus) and I have paralysing stage fright.

(I suspect I may be a terrible speller too)

English is my native language.

Don't be so hard on yourself - try to be more kind. Inner is more important then outer because in every moment that can become outer, but opposite is not so easy, maybe not possible.
What house is in Leo? You have really nice stellium there. Be silent and patient and love yourself in the best way for you and for others. And find a way to express your feelings and passion.
Maybe my Mars in Virgo made me over considerate and reserved regarding entering into love relationships, but it was really a huge pity for me and all around me. So much good energy and passions was unused, it is terrible. But I think the Universe has a task for us and prepares gifts too...

It is extremelly important where is Mars, the ruler of her Ascendant, in what sign, house and in what aspects. It is what determines her personality mostly.
Me too, not easy to see a Leo in me, except someone knows how much I like to give, to help, to love...
I think that Scorpio Ascendant is really very good. I can't be sure but it seems a combination Leo/Scorpio sometimes can be selfdestructive.

Linda spoke of the shy pussycats occasionally. Look in Love Signs. Put a thorn in their paw and you'll see the Leo.
