Flattery will get you EVERYwhere!

Looking only at your Ascendant/Midheaven aspects, as you say, your planets conjunct (energy is combined with) his Ascendant (self), so he "feels" you personally. His Venus (physical, also desire/relationships) conjunct Mars (being, also action) conjuncts your Midheaven (outer world), so you feel his active passion in your relationship when out and about.
