I noticed on my transit chart a few moments ago that Saturn is retrograde right now. If this site (Retrograde Planets) is correct it went retrograde this past December 5th, and will go direct again on April 19th.

Here's the above site's interpretation of what happens during Saturn Retrograde.

quote:

When Saturn goes Retrograde you tend to need more reassurance, when you might otherwise be sure of the issues represented by Saturn's Sign/House placement. However, no amount of reassurance really helps in reducing the stress you may be feeling ~ to get organized and accomplish something solid in your life. Saturn is all about building a solid foundation and doing things in an organized, methodical way. However, when it's Retrograde, it becomes increasingly difficult to do that - in any area of your life. And to add insult to injury, you feel like you need it now more than ever.

Part of the challenge is that this is a very heavy energy and you may be feeling really overwhelmed lately about accomplishing basic tasks, let alone any big projects. You may tend to berate yourself about how you are not measuring up to the status quo. Comparison gets you NOWHERE! Don't do that to your Self. You have a whole set of unique circumstances to deal with, as does everyone. So worrying about living up to some erroneous standard is a waste of good energy that could be better spent, at this time, simply planning what you would like to do and how you would like to do it when the energy shifts again.

When Saturn Retrogrades, everything seems to take longer to accomplish. You may even swing between extremes of, "I'm going to organize EVERYTHING! Today!" to being totally lethargic and unproductive. Try to roll with the mood. If you are in the mood to organize, do what you can and enjoy the sense of accomplishment, however small. If you are in the mood to veg, than use that time to meditate on your goals. Visualized the steps it will take to bring them to fruition.

On an inner level, Saturn is Retrograding through Leo at the moment, which is bringing up major issues with your identity, core drives and self-love, as our definitions are shifting. You may be feeling very restricted (Saturn) and blocked (unsure of who you are - Leo) by the Universe as if everything is a struggle or a test. It IS! You are being forced to check your foundation (is it still solid?); check your definition of reality (is it outdated? does it serve you or keep you living in fear of moving to a new level?); check your methods for accomplishing mundane tasks (are they effective?).

This energy tends to create fear and doubt and unfortunately, you manifest whatever you focus on - so if you're focusing on what's "not" working, what you "don't" have, you just create MORE. This energy tends to make you want to retreat behind very thick walls, surrounded by everything familiar because the changing times are too much to bear. The problem with that is you're procrastinating and postponing the inevitable. When you do that, you make arriving at that next level that much more difficult, painful, strenuous and delayed. It is better to use Saturn's amazing energy to organize your thoughts and plan a strategy for adjusting to the changes being forced on you at this time. With Retrogrades, you always want to slow down, think carefully and then act. Don't spend so much time on the first two that you forget the third - and most crucial part - of taking action based on what you discovered when you slowed down and really thought things through.

Think of this time as infinitely useful in that it really does force you to create a step-by-step plan to achieve your goals - which may mean giving up time-worn habits and beliefs which no longer serve you but really paralyze you with fear and doubt. If you figure out what you want - THE BIG PICTURE - THINK BIG!! then work 'backwards' from the ultimate dream - what's it going to take to get there? Then proceed cautiously, so you can "adjust" as you go. Take those first steps. When you start with small, manageable goals, accomplishing them gives you the momentum and fortitude to go after the BIG ones. Release fear and doubt (Saturn) and embrace a NEW definition of reality for here and now! We're in a Retrograde cycle - RE-define your reality - you have that option! How bad do you want it? http://www.cosmic-switchboard.com/RetrogradePlanets.html

Here's another interp:

quote:

Saturn, the planet of boundaries and life lessons, is retrograde about thirty-six percent of the time. And just like Jupiter, the stations of Saturn -- the points at which Saturn seems to turn around in its orbit -- are the most important times in the cycle, and are also related to trines from the Sun. When it's retrograde, Saturn shines its baleful, beautiful yellowish light on us all night long.

Saturn already has the reputation of being a downer. How could four-and-a-half months of Saturn Retrograde possibly be a positive thing? Well, easily. Instead of getting more serious, folks back off a little bit. It's a time to take a little breather from the usual breakneck pace that most people keep these days. Don't worry, you'll still get plenty of work done; it's not like Saturn changes personality during this period. It's just that the sense of urgency and anxiety relaxes somewhat. Doesn't that sound like a relief?

Sometimes old tasks come back to haunt you during Saturn Retrograde. If so, you'll have to reorganize your priorities and keep your perspective. What's important to do now, and what can wait? Let others, especially those in authority, know about the changes. Reduce your expectations somewhat. Don't cave in altogether, though; that won't make Saturn happy!

This is not a good time to break away and start something new, but it's a fine time to plan for the projects you'll begin when this planet goes direct again. Take the time to do things right on the first attempt. Watch for authority issues -- another domain of Saturn. As always, Saturn wants us to develop patience. It's good for the soul! http://www.theastrologer.com/astrology/about/index.php?page=saturnretrograde

Here's another interp:
quote:

Saturn Retrograde
Upsets and delays could become a normal part of life for the 4 and a half months Saturn is Retrograde. Extra time-consuming, unfinished *business* can unexpectedly come up that takes you away from your normal routine, adding extra responsibilities, commitments, and time-eaters to your days. Expectations of forward progress may have to be temporarily revised. It's time to ease up and take a good look around you. Whatever house of your horoscope Saturn is currently transiting through is where you will feel this effect. This is not the time to make bold new strides and start experimental projects. Instead, use this time to re-evaluate and strengthen what you are already doing. This retrograde can teach you new methods to structure your inner psychological workings by exposing your limiting, unproductive defense mechanisms. This knowledge can ultimately help you translate yourself and your work to the world in a lucid, more easily comprehensible way. http://www.artcharts.com/learn_astrology/rx.html

Thank you, AG

I was just thinking about it when everyone was talking about Mercury retrograde but didn't have time to look it up. What you posted makes a lot of sense. It has been very frustrating period for me. Saturn moved to my Second house in December, then back to the First and all this time it hovering over my NMars. Such a clash of opposite energies. Emotionally exhausting and my health hasn't been very good either.

Hopefully, it will get better after April 19. Actually, I know it will because on April 18 I am going on much needed vacation.

Right now I have Transitting Saturn Square my Natal 12th house Saturn and Conj my south Node (While Neppy is on my North Node).

I've been doing "spotlight" work for almost a year now. I sing karaoke, Sing with musicians and do stand up comedy. I'm a recovering introvert going into uncharted territory. I ditched my bioloigcal family who was quite abusive towards me and they can't be bother with me.

My child is having big problems in preschool and T Saturn is right in her 12th and will soon conj her 26 Leo Rising Ascendant.

The icy cold reserve of my 12th house Saturn has been chipped away at and now I'm finally starting to open up a bit and relax.

My 2 cents worth......

Thanks AG.....That's fantastic information!!!

But, to answer the question? Well I'm sorry I can't. Seem to have gone into complete denial about Saturn (LOL).....

No, really everyone that I come across seems to be experiencing it's effects.....
My main thing has been the 'organise everything now' effect.... A real need to have everything structured today!!!

My natal Saturn is Cancer 1st House Sq my Moon/Jupiter/Chiron Aries 10th House.....My career has been bugging me?

Wanting a Holiday from Saturn,

Melindy

Thanks AG

I have Saturn rx and in it's fall in my natal chart
Saturn is also my chart ruler.
I am used to rx energy from Saturn that yellow light is currently mixed with a pink haze cast about by Neptune...
BOTH trNeptune and trSaturn are squaring my Scorpio Mars, MC and Neptune (natal)
Its been awful and that they go direct and then rx feels like I am being swept back and forth like a broom....
I'm just ridin it out. No new nothing...
I barely even answer my phone these days!

Thanks for that!

Something always goes wrong with my knees when Saturn is retrograde.. *fingers crossed* it doesn't happen this time.
It is actually retrograde in my own natal chart as well. I'm not sure whether this makes transit retros better or worse lol

so saturn retrograde is linked to body pains?
I have left side pain from knee to shoulder that shows up a few times a year. I was physically unable to do much of anything this past week i was in pain.
I was born during Saturn Retro as well, in the 7th house.

I have Saturn retro as well, in the first.

Pearlized, Capricorn rules the knees, and Capricorn is ruled by Saturn, so maybe that makes sense. I haven't had any knee trouble with this retrograde.

AG, thanks so much for posting this. I haven't had as much force for accomplishing homework this semester, and I actually was beginning to wonder if there were some difficulties where there hadn't been before due to my illness in the fall. I'm really grateful that you brought this up because although I have briefly glanced at my transits on astro, I haven't had the time or energy (hehe) to research it and ponder it. This was a tremendous help and might make a big difference in my life due to some small changes I will make. Thanks again!!!
