Hi all ^_^ lately I've seen so many posts about Saturn aspects in synastries as karmic/fate indicators between couples. So I can't help but sharing my opinion about it. ^_^;

As everyone already know, Saturn in our birth chart represents our sense of responsibility and seriousness. It also represents self-discipline and restrictions/limitations. So any person having their planets aspecting our Saturn would activate the Saturn sides of us. For example, having other person's Moon conjunct our Saturn, his/her emotions are at ease with our seriousness and feels secure with us, while we feel serious about his/her emotions and also responsible for taking care of it.
But in my opinion, Saturn aspects are not really karmic, unless there are other details that could indicate the relationship as karmic/fated. For example, if person A's personal planets forms any aspects to person B's Saturn, then A's personal planets also form those aspects with other people's Saturn who are around B's age. So if Saturn's aspects are really strong karmic indicators, then why don't we meet all of these people? :P
In my opinion, people having their planets aspecting our Saturn makes us feel more serious and responsible about him/her, giving us such strong sense of seriousness (depending on how many Saturn aspects are formed) that makes us feel that this relationship is fated (serious relationships makes us feel that they might be fated). But if it's really fated or not, we should look at other details, such as other aspects in synastry (for example, Sun conjunct NN in zero degrees is something we don't find easily), composite (even if you make a composite chart of yourself with two different people - person A and person B - who were born at the same day, your composite with person A can still differ from your composite with person B - A and B can have a different Moon degree or Ascendant), progressed, etc. (the details we can find in these might justify why we only meet some people and not everyone we for Saturn aspects with).

So what do you guys think? Any opinions about it you would like to share? ^_^

I agree... In seeing so much about Saturn lately, I just looked at the synastry with my ex-husband and we have several Saturn contacts alot of which are squares. But we do not have much going on with mars-venus or his mars, and the sexual attraction did burn out quick. So overall, I do not think that Saturn contacts alone can sustain a relationship. I felt that he was a soulmate and that we had lessons to learn together but it only last 7 years total together and it was time to move on.

I've been wondering about that too. I'm really set off by people my own age (setting off my natal squares/T-square) and people 8 years older than me (Saturn conjunct my Sun). Clearly, my ex around my age and my ex 8 years older than me felt no compunction or binding with me to stick around. But my best friend (also 8 years older) did. So, what does it mean, anyway?

In terms of karmic relationships, I definitely think aspects with the Nodes (among other things) are more significant than Saturn aspects. Saturn moves so slowly -- like you said, Saturn aspects will be shared by many people who are born around the same time, but that doesn't mean each person has a "fated" relationship with all the others.

For instance, I have Mars opposition Saturn in my natal chart, so anyone who was born around the same time as me will have a Saturn opposing my Mars. In theory, this is a tough aspect and should indicate relationship difficulty with these people -- yet I have many friends my same age, and I've never felt the wrath of our Mars/Saturn opposition with them. Maybe it's because I'm used to that energy in my own chart... who knows.

That's not to say Saturn is unimportant or doesn't have a strong influence. I just think the aspects between Saturn and other planets (especially slower-moving ones) is less important than aspects to, say, the Moon or Ascendant, which change signs rapidly. Really tight aspects with Saturn are also noteworthy -- say, under 1 degree orb -- but ones with wider-orbs lose much of their impact, in my opinion.
