I-ve been wondering about some symbols in the tables of Astro.

Besides the regular aspects like trines, squares, opositions, quicunx,it appears sometimes:

- ( ´) the commas without any numbers;
- bQ
- Q

Anyone can tell me what these symbols mean?

Thankx

If i remember correctly the commas appear in aspects that are a little wide, people have asked about this before, and I think that was the conclusion

Q is a quincux (hard aspect), and bQ is think is a form of a quincux... Half astrix is a semi-sextile.

Q is aspect quintile i.e., 72 degrees and bQ is bi-quintile 144 degrees, both minor aspects. Comma offcourse shows aspects wider than the recommended orbs.

I like to remember the 150-deg quincunx aspect (aka "quine," and green hash-marks on my astro.com preferences) as the "picnic table" glyph, while the semi-sextile is the picnic table upside-down

Zala - hey, stop peeking at my cheat sheet! When I come across the quincunx glyph, I even call it "the picnic table" in my head because I don't know how to pronounce quincunx. I say "kwin kunks" which just sounds like some extraterrestrial leader to me.

"Quincunx" -- eeek!!
Who invented that word anyway?!? Love the ET-correlation I say it kwin-kunks too (when I absolutely have to utter it verbally) and I think it sounds kind of naughty
That's why I liked "quine" when I saw it in an old astro-program

What a funny correlation between the quicunkx and the picnic table. I wont forget from now on.
So, the symbols i´ve asked are minor aspects, and so, arent important to analyse?
And the commas after the aspects showing larger degrees than the recomended, means that aspects arent important also, right?

I used to confuse the quintile symbol with the quindecile one.

And instead of "quincunx", you can always call it an inconjunct

Naughty? You've got one kinky mind! I can only imagine what dirty thoughts "sextile" gives you.

Green Fairy - thank you for the "inconjunct" suggestion (now that one actually sounds kinda naughty to me). I think it's too late for me though, and that glyph and picnic table are permanently linked in my mind.

Diandra - they are considered minor aspects but I think they're definitely worth analyzing. I find the quintile and bi-quintile particularly fun to study. Astrologyforthesoul.com described that aspect like this:

quote:
A quintile is a 72 degree aspect. It's based on '5.' If you divide 360 by 5 you get 72. '5' resonates with Mercury more than any planet; it's creative and magical. Any time you have a quintile, those two planets combine to form some very powerful magic and gifts. They are more interesting and unique than trines and sextiles, though also somewhat more subtle. If you want to find someone's gifts in a chart, don't forget the quintiles. They are very special!

Nope “Inconjunct” is too nebulous for my taste
If “conjunct” means joined, associated, connected, then it follows (to my thinking) that “inconjunct” would be “unjoined, unassociated, unconnected”. Does anyone know the history of how “inconjunct” came to mean the 150-degree aspect??

This is the definition of quincunx from the Normal People’s Dictionary:
(kw n k ngks )
n.
An arrangement of five objects with one at each corner of a rectangle or square and one at the center.

I still like “quine” best
