Hi, I just have a question about astro.com... I tried out a hypothetical test, to see if I was born 5 minutes earlier what my rising sign would have been. Well I went from being a 28 degrees Sag rising to a 27 degrees Sag rising. Within a five minute timeframe, shouldn't the degree difference be greater? I thought that the sign ascending on the horizon moved by about 4 degrees every two minutes? If so, shouldn't that make my hypothetical "5 minutes earlier" ascendant at 20 degrees Sag, not 27 degrees? I realise this makes not much difference for me as I would still be a Sag rising, but it would make all the difference to someone whose ascendant was in the earlier degrees.

I could have this all wrong, so hopefully some of the experts here can enlighten me!

(Maybe it's something to do with my location being very low in the Southern Hemisphere? I know this makes a difference to some things, which is why it's recommended we use Placidus down here because Equal houses can create distortions for us. However I keep getting the same result with this whether I use Placidus or Equal).

24 hours divided by 12 signs divided by 30 degrees equals one change in degree every 4 minutes.

Thats what I thought, the maths makes sense anyway.

Books generally use the 4-minute rule just because it's nice and even. According to what I've read, the "actual" speed of each ascendent varies. In the Northern hemisphere, Libra rises the longest time for a total of 2 hours and 30 minutes, and Aries rises the shortest time for only 1 hour and 10 minutes. It's different in the Southern hemisphere.
